Nice Stay....Hotel could really be top tier with a few changes (mainly food)

EmirelinAtlanta (Austin, Texas) on Sep 25, 2023

Just finished a week long stay at the Curacao Marriott Beach Resort. We chose a King Bed/Balcony/Garden View room. This was our first time to Curacao. Overall, I think the hotel is very nice. I typically try to find true boutique hotels to lodge, but was overall pleased with this Marriott. My biggest complaint concerns the food. Here's a few more details: Check-in: Check-in was pretty quick and overall friendly. We're Marriott Bonvoy members with pretty high status. Of course, we asked for an upgrade, but were told none were available at the time (we arrived on a Saturday). The hostess did mention that we could check back with them the following day to see if an upgraded room was available. We never did. Room: As mentioned, we lodged in a King/Garden View room. It was a nice room. Comfortable bed with worn out pillows. Huge TV with tons of channels. Adequate bathroom and shower. Housekeeping doesn't always provide shampoo/bodywash/etc, so we had to call down to front desk a couple of times for refills. Goby Divers: We dove 4 of the days on our trip and Goby Divers is a very good dive shop. Great rental equipment. Large tanks (3 psi's). Each of our dives was 60-65 minutes. Great, safe dive masters. Ima, Jacob and Dr. D. are phenomenal, safe and personable. Drinks: Loved the drinks at the Lobby Bar and Iguana. Special shout out to Yolanda and her wonderful personality and great service. She is a definite asset to the resort. Food: Well, this is where I think the hotel definitely falls short. I really enjoyed the breakfast. Buffet. Very large spread with fruit, pancakes, waffles, pastries, etc. This is definitely the best meal provided by the resort. The remainder of the food I tasted for lunch/dinner didn't meet my expectations. Tasted mass-produced. Either too salty or too bland and never tasted fresh. The chicken dishes really tasted weird. Also, one of my few pet peeves is when a resort on the beach doesn't have a good seafood restaurant or varied seafood offerings. Why can't this resort have a small restaurant that specializes in seafood and catch of the day? Guests that want fresh seafood are forced to visit restaurants off-site such as De Vissserij (phenomenal). Amenities: We never visited the gym, but it did look very nice with every type of equipment you would need for a good workout. We never got in the pool because we prefer the beach. But the pool did look very nice. The beach was excellent. Incredible clear water and for those who like snorkeling, there is an excellent reef a short swim from the beach with the healthy coral and many, many fishes. We never had any trouble finding a beach chair (even in the afternoon). Hertz Rental Car on-site: On two days, we rented a car at the on-site Hertz rental car kiosk. Pretty quick set-up and nice cars. Although, I did just look at my credit card statement and see an extra charge that I will hopefully be able to remedy. Special Note: Stephanie (concierge) is invaluable. I got her whatsapp number and was able to very quickly set-up taxi's and get recommendations for bars/restaurants/etc. She really helped to make our trip a very nice one. Thanks Stephanie!!!!

Vacation Ruined by Loud Concert on the Beach

AdventureGeezer (United States) on Sep 23, 2023

We chose this hotel because it is in the quiet part of Willemstad away from the bars and nightclubs. Half way through our week-long stay on Sep 8, there was a note stuck on our door (see attached photo) which informed us that on the next day, Sep 9, there was going to be an outdoor event called Nostalgia - concert taking place on the nearby Parassa Beach. The concert was to begin at 9:00PM and finish promptly at 3:00AM. The note also said that disposable earplugs were available at the front desk. Loud sound checks started in the afternoon and we asked to be moved to the side of the resort farthest away from the venue, but were told there was no availability. Once the concert started, it was clear our room was only 100 yards from the stage. The music was so loud that our room actually shook. The music went until 3:30AM, and then people who apparently were staying at the hotel, dragged coolers and and were loud outside our door until 4:30AM. We basically got no sleep that night because we were pre-registered for an early kayaking tour the next morning. It is completely unacceptable that we were not informed of this event until the day before. If we had known just a week sooner, we would have re-scheduled the entire trip for another time. Instead, we spent the last three days of our vacation sleep deprived and angry, our vacation ruined. I can’t even imagine how families with children faired. We will not be returning.
