VALET IS DANGEROUS. AIRTAG PLACED IN OUR CAR.
Shrutis1230 (Brighton) on Jan 04, 2025
DO NOT VALET YOUR CAR AT THE HYATT. It’s DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!! We were being TRACKED. We stayed at the Hyatt Centric in Honolulu. We valeted our car. After picking up the car we were out for 5 hours and our phone got a notification that there’s an AirTag with us. The time matched exactly the time that we picked the car up. The only people who had access to the car was the valet. We found the AirTag inside the trunk where the spare tire was. We called the owner from Turo and they said that it wasn’t their AirTag. We called the police and filed a report. The police said this sort of issue is pretty common in Honolulu. They also checked the registration for owner’s phone number and the last four didn’t match the last four digits of the phone number connected to the AirTag. Which confirms that the AirTag was not placed by the owner. When we went to the front desk, they didn’t seem to bother and told us that the valet company is a separate company and the hotel has nothing to do with it. They had told us that they would let the hotel management reach out to us, but no one ever reached out to us. The day that we were checking out, we finally asked for the manager to come talk to us. Our safety was not a priority at all to them. We spoke to the valet supervisor, who also tried to just brush off the situation. He tried to tell us that we could’ve been out at a store or the beach and someone could’ve put it in the car. How does that even make any sense if no one had the key to our car while we’re out at a store or the beach to open the trunk and drop an AirTag in there? He was deflecting instead of looking into the situation. The police officers that came, didn’t seem very knowledgeable. They told us that technically the owner of the airtag won’t be able to see where we are due to Bluetooth being out of range. But if you do a quick search you can see that even if you are far away, the owner of an AirTag placed on you could potentially track your location to a certain extent, thanks to Apple's "Find My" network which relays signals from nearby Apple devices, allowing tracking over large distances even when the AirTag itself is out of direct Bluetooth range; however, if the AirTag is separated from its owner for a significant period, your iPhone will receive an alert notifying you that an unknown AirTag is moving with you, acting as a safety feature against unwanted tracking. Final conclusion was that no one cared about the safety so we highly recommend anyone traveling to not valet their car and to make sure that their keys stay with them at all times. We were two women who are clearly being targeted.

Many thanks to the Hyatt Centric in the French Quarter for a fantastic stay during the busy Holiday season. The service, location, value & cleanliness of the hotel was top notch. Special thanks to the front desk for answering all our questions (I had a lot of them)! Breakfast daily was superb; delivered with a smile 100% of the time. The lobby bar was also a hit for drinks & it's dinner service. All questions were answered with kindness, a smile and good cheer! Shout out to Bonnie, Garret, DeShawn, Eric & Tracy for such stupendous service!! Happy New Year!
