Disappointing Experience at Hilton Waikoloa Village
Laurie M on Sep 09, 2024
Had a disappointing stay at the Hilton Waikoloa Village for a number of reasons. This wasn't our first stay at this resort, but we thought we would give it another try. Here are the Pros and Cons: Cons: 1. The tram was rarely working, unreliable and SUPER slow for those folks that needed it to get around the resort. Most days, the tram was idle and sat broken on the track. 2. Diamond Members had to wear these ridiculous, plastic, hard wristbands. Why? I'm not sure why, because I saw very few other guests even wearing wristbands around/throughout the resort. The guests that were wearing wristbands, at least got to wear, soft, flexible bands, not hard, plastic bands! I actually cut myself twice on my plastic, carnival-like wristband!! I would suggest that the resort consider switching to softer wristbands for the Diamond members PLEASE! 3. The hotel informational pamphlet that is provided to the guests states that the Nui bar is supposed to be open until 10pm every night; however, every night we were there, they closed/last call at 9 pm. So nothing is open later than 9 pm for drinks. 4. The resort has limited restaurants for lunch and dinner; therefore, guests have to go off the resort for food/drinks. That doesn't seem like good business practice to me. 5. The ONE sports type bar that the resort has is CLOSED on Sundays and Monday during football season!!!! Seriously!!!??? You'd think that they would at least be open a few hours during the morning and early afternoon for football! Maybe even a little bit on Saturdays for college football???!! Just saying! 6. Their poolside bars close at 4pm!! So, bring your own drinks poolside if you want anything past 4pm! 7. They do not offer offsite beach chair/umbrella/cooler rental options for guests who would like to visit island beaches like other resorts do. I would suggest that they consider doing this in the future. It would be a smart thing to do!! 8. They DO have a shuttle that does provide transportation to and from the Kings/Queens Shopping areas; however, it's $5 per person EACH way!! We ended up just walking because it's only like 0.8 mile or 1 mile! I would suggest, that at least for Diamond members, that it's included in their cost OR at least discounted somehow! Pros: 1. They have a Rental Car Location on site which is extremely convenient! 2. They have plenty of pools/locations around the resort 3. The food/drinks at Nui were very good. Hannah was very nice and gave us some good suggestions for places to visit around the island :) 4. There are water refilling stations all around the resort, which is nice and convenient; although, the refillable 'bottles' that they leave in the room for the guests are VERY cheesy and cheap! I'm not sure I would recommend this resort to friends or family visiting the big island. I think there are a lot of improvements that can/should be made to provide their guests with a better experience - especially their Diamond members!
Hilton Waikoloa Village

Our family spent a week at the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort and absolutely loved it. The resort is massive so while it can take awhile to get where you are going we enjoyed finding so many areas to explore. We stayed in the Palace Tower which meant plenty of walking through the artwork lined hallways and monorail rides. Our room was a good size and had a very large closet area that was helpful for organizing everything. We spent most of our days at one pool during the morning and then a different area after lunch. We really enjoyed the lagoon restaurant for lunch and being able to watch the dolphins while eating. The lagoon area was also a huge plus and we enjoyed snorkeling and seeing so many fish and turtles. We spent one day exploring the Kona side of the island but spent the majority of our time on property since there was so much to do. Stocking up on food before arriving is definitely a good idea. We saw many people with an Island Marketplace tote bag and it is a great place to shop. We enjoyed the onsite restaurants although they aren’t all open all the time. The Kings Shops and Queens Marketplace are right down the street. We enjoyed Island Fish and Chips and also A Bay’s Island Grill after finding the wait at Lava Lava Beach Club to be well over 2 hours.
