Excellent resort. One of the very best!

Terrell D on Sep 16, 2023

This is a wonderful runaway resort with some of the best staff and facilities that we have seen anywhere. The hotel is top notch, from the location on the beach, the staff in all aspects, the quality of the rooms, to the restaurants, SPA, and the commitment of the staff to give superb service. The rooms are spacious, modern and completely maintained. The cleaning staff were committed to giving superb service. The restaurant staff were excellent in all aspects including the wait staff and the supervisors at all levels. They remembered our names and always treated us with smiles and quality service. The beach and bay are beautiful and unique due to the shallow, sandy and safe beach. We had full access to lounge chairs, umbrellas, full bar serving drinks and food. Kayaks and paddle boards were always available and at no cost. This made the boats, snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing fully accessible. The excursions and tours were excellent. This gave us access to great fishing for Dorado and Yellowtail, snorkeling, whale watching, sunset catamaran cruising, and top quality golfing. This gets a 10 from us in all aspects.

A wonderful oasis in the desert!

shakespearenut (Stockton, California) on Sep 15, 2023

This was our second visit to Villa del Palmar at Loreto; we were here in April 2022 for two weeks, September 2023 for one. During our 2022 stay, we were with family and rented a car so that we could travel easily back and forth between the resort and town. We spent many lovely, lazy days at the resort, as well as several days just roaming around Loreto and its surroundings. There are many wonderful restaurants in Loreto, and during our April stay, town was bustling with a wonderful energy! For our September stay, since it was just my husband and I, we spent the bulk of our time at the resort, enjoying the pool, the beautiful scenery, and the soothing quiet. With that said, having had two very different experiences here, we are still sold on this property and would come back in a minute! First of all - the difference between staying just at the resort and going into town regularly: several reviews here on tripadvisor have commented that this resort has a very definite demographic, that being older couples and families. I suppose that's fair, but rather than focusing on age, I would point to trip purpose as determining one's "enjoyment" here. If you are looking for nightlife and bustling days, this is not the resort for you; on the other hand, if you are looking for a place where you can hear the birds chirping all day long, this will be your happy place. Villa del Palmar Loreto is all about relaxation, nature encounters, and good food and drink. Of course, there is also world class golf, but as we are not golfers, it was the former qualities that drew us here. Poolside with a book and a cold drink is one of my favorite ways of wasting a day! And if you want to get out and about, there are excursions to the islands, fishing, and town to keep you occupied. At night, you have three lovely restaurants to choose from replete with nightly entertainment and a glorious atmosphere! It is so wonderfully qiiet here - there is no airplane noise, no train whistles, no traffic whooshing by, just the sounds of quiet music playing, children splashing, and guests laughing and conversing. It's also just extraordinarily beautiful here! The play of colors - the blue of the water, the green of the foliage, and the browns of the hills and buildings - creates the most amazing and picturesque landscape; it just evokes calmness and serenity. I love it!!! Rooms: The rooms here are also lovely; they are reasonably spacious and comfortable. The beds are very nice - neither too soft or too hard -- and the bedding is crisp and white and inviting. The larger rooms have a jacuzzi tub, as well as a washer and drier, and there are closets and dressers where clothing can be stowed away during your trip. The kitchens do not have an oven - only a stove - but, truthfully, you're not likely to do much cooking here. There are only small grocery stores in town (there's no Costco or super Walmart in Loreto), so the selections of groceries are limited. If you have children, you might want to scramble some eggs or warm a can of soup, but you're probably not going to be making meals here. As such, the kitchen is well equipped for the cooking that you're likely wanting to do. Television is not the greatest, but unless you watch a lot of TV on your trips, it won't matter. Just bring your lap top and do your television viewing on the regular apps you use at home. The internet is fine when you are in your room, although it can be a bit sketchy down by the pool; even so, we had no problem at all watching a movie or scrolling the web on our computers. One word of warning if you are planning to work remotely during your stay (like my husband): VPN's can give you some issues. It took about three hours on the phone with his office on our first day here before my husband was able to access his office server back home. Food: The food is beautiful here! The presentation of dishes is amazing! Casa Mia is probably the most family friendly restaurant (with the exception of the beach grill and the poolside grill); they serve sandwiches and burgers and pizza during the day and Italian cuisine at night. It's a winner. The Market has buffet meals during peak months, but you can also order off the menu. Being here in September, the buffets had been put on hold, so we ordered off the menu several times. This was, in truth, our favorite place to eat. The food is definitely gourmet-esque, and there were a couple of things that my picky pallet didn't care for; nevertheless, there were many things that were absolutely amazing! The shrimp bisque, which was a special one evening, was one of the most delectable things I have ever tasted! And the New York steak (another special) was really, really delicious!!! A lot of people on this site seem to prefer Danzante, but having had two meals there that none of us particularly enjoyed (they are, perhaps, too gourmet for our taste), we opted for The Market most of the time and were quite pleased. As for the all inclusive option, we opted out of it our first trip because we were going back and forth to town regularly, but for our September trip, we opted in. It is so much more affordable than any other resort I have encountered. Normally we say "no" because we just can't imagine the two of us eating and imbibing $400 worth of food and drink each day!! But here at Villa, the cost is just $130/260 per day/couple - much more affordable!! There are some caveats to the program, but staff provide you with all the fine print; just make sure you read and understand it. Staff: Staff is AMAZING!!!! At no time was anyone short with us or in a bad mood; we were consistently greeted with smiles and concern, and everyone was willing to bend over backward to make us happy. These people are working so hard to ensure the guests' enjoyment! Treat them well! Do I have any complaints? Well...it was pretty hot in September, but then, it's the desert! We knew it would be hot when we booked our stay. LOL. Moreover, the accommodations were priced accordingly, so I can't complain there. LOL. Town was pretty dead because of the heat, so if you're planning on living it up in town, you should, perhaps, come at a different time of year as we did on our first trip. Honestly, my only complaint would be about the shuttle service. Town is about 30 miles from the resort, and taxis are, I thought, way expensive!!! We split a taxi with a couple to get to the resort when we arrived, and it was over a hundred US dollars one way! The shuttle is $20 per person round trip, which isn't bad for a couple, but that's a lot for a family with kids. I would definitely recommend getting a car if you're planning on going back and forth very often. I know gas is expensive, but, given the out of the way location of the resort, it would be nice if the shuttle were half what they charged. Construction: There are a few complaints on this site about construction. Yes, there is ongoing construction occurring, so there is some hammering noise, etc. First of all, if you're worried about being awaken early in the morning, bring white noise; that will alleviate any issues with noise. Second, why are you staying in your room? LOL. Get out and enjoy the property! All I could think when I saw these guys working was, "how can they do it in this heat?" Quite frankly, I imagine that those employed here are glad to have the work, and I'm glad that the Villa can provide jobs for the community. Two of the employees told me that the Villa sends out shuttles to pick them up for work and then return them to their homes. Just tip well while you're here; these guys are working so hard and they are dong an amazing job!!! I know this has been long, but this resort deserves a glowing report! I look forward to our next trip; I just hope it is at a time when it's a bit cooler. :)
