Clean Stay with Great Food, but Limited Fruit Options

Nicoleadib (Cambridge, Canada) on Dec 06, 2024

My family and I had a great time at this resort. If you're looking for a clean place to stay with good food, I would recommend it. However, the selection of fruits was somewhat limited.

I enjoyed my week there, but will not be back

CanadianTraveller159 (Vaughan, Canada) on Dec 04, 2024

I enjoyed my week there, but will not be back. I know, there are people who like this resort a lot and there are those who say that they will never go back here. People say your vacation is what you make of it. For me it is what you are ready to ignore. So I want to share what went wrong as for somebody it may be a deal breaker. We stayed in this resort 8 years ago in Jamaica side, we liked it a lot until our safe was open and some money stolen. However, this year we decided to give it one more chance. This time we chose Lady Hamilton side. What I liked most of all during my 1st trip, was the snorkeling from the Coral Beach. Snorkeling is our first criteria when we are choosing the resort. I am not a good swimmer, so I can snorkel only where it is not deep, and this beach was perfect for it. We booked it 6 months ago and unfortunately in the end of October, I found out that I will not be able to access the Coral Beach as it is now for Signature members only. Still, we decided that we would snorkel on Sunset Cove beach. It was not that good, as Coral beach and more difficult for me as I will have to swim further from the shore. Nevertheless, we tried to make the best of it, we saw some colorful fish, porcupine fish, and a lionfish. We enjoyed 3 days of snorkeling, other 3 days we either had a rain or the water was murky after the rain. But comparing to our 1st trip, it was worse, and this is the main reason we are not coming back. The room was good, mattress and pillows could be more comfortable. On our second day we realized the lights in the sofa area are not working or we cannot find the right switch. We asked the maid to help us, she also could not find it, called the maintenance guy that worked in this building, he said that they are just not working and need to be replaced. He called the main maintenance and told us that the maintenance will be here shortly, they never arrived. This is one of the things we decided to ignore. It was not enough light in the room, but it was OK. There were always some problems with the towels. The maid told us they are often late to bring the towels and sheets, and when they do it is often not enough for all rooms. I just asked her not to remove the towels from our room if she doesn’t have replacement and it was OK. We had 2 sets of towels and most of the time we had a couple of practically dry ones. One day we didn’t have towels on Sunset cove beach for the whole day. Food. Buffets were good. Mo’bay is bigger and have bigger choice. The service is hit a miss in both. Some waiters will make sure you have water, coffee or wine, some, you have to go after them and ask several times before you get your drinks. Again, tried to ignore this when we could, we were not in a hurry, but I prefer the wine with th meal and not when I already finished it. I never had a problem with food temperatures as I never get to me table right away, as I like to walk around and see what else I can try, so after the round around the food stations, the food gets cooler anyway. Never was hungry, always had more than enough choice. A la carte restaurants were a different story. On our 1st trip I liked them. We went to 6 of them. Food became worse compared to 8 years ago is for sure. It was not bad, but it was not great with some exceptions. They all have the similar problems. Misrepresentation. For example, in Japanese, the menu was showing snow crab sushi. In reality, it was crab imitation sushi. In Jamaican we ordered tenderloin, it turned out to be pork chops on a bone. When we tried to discuss it with the chef, telling him this is not tenderloin, his explanation was first that this is a tenderloin, when we continued to insist, it was not, he said the management creates a menu, he just cooks. When we tried to tell, but if you get an order for tenderloin, why you didn’t tell it is not available, he continues to blame management, then he left and 5 minutes later he came back telling us, the management recently changed the menu, and he had no idea about it. We decided, no point to continue arguing, tried to eat pork chops, but they were very dry. Another thing we noticed was if they asked you how did you want your meat, order one grade higher. When we ordered medium rare, we’ve got rare. Twice we ordered medium, got medium rare. May be it was just our luck, but I’ve heard it from other people as well. We experienced extremely slow service at sumptuori (regular one, not hibachi). We’ve got our salad after 40 minutes, soup, 20 minutes later, sushi came 20 more minutes later and main dish came practically 2 hours after we came. Tried to relax, but it is difficult to do when you are hungry. Mexican was the quickest. I like a la carte for the experience. Our most favorite was Poseidon and least favourite Sumptuori. Bars. The best choice of cocktails was in Las Brisas Bar. Sunset cove bar & Poseidon bar do not have slush machines, so no Pina Colada, Daiquiri or Bob Marley and one day it sunset cove bar didn’t work at all. Infinity Bar has these machines, but couple of days they were not working. Miss Lou was great. Always good choice of coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Overall we had a nice vacation, but we were missing one very important part of it – good snorkeling. And do not believe any weather apps. They are all wrong. We followed several and they all were showing rains all days long, but we had just one day when the rain was 24 hours. Other days it will be very short and the weather was good.
