Poor staff service for Gold Elite Members

We recently stayed at The Westin Ottawa, hoping to enjoy the benefits of being a Gold member. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite my loyalty and the supposed entitlements that come with Gold membership, the hotel staff made every effort to avoid letting me continue in the same room for the second extended night. It was disheartening to encounter such resistance to a benefit that is clearly advertised. The staff used various tactics to deny continuation and tried to charge an additional $60, which left me feeling undervalued and frustrated. Upon explaining them the membership benefits, they even blocked the room stating the room was just sold. (And yes, the room became available again on their bonvoy app as soon as we decided to check-out). The lack of transparency and the apparent reluctance to honour membership perks reflect poorly on the hotel's commitment to loyal customers. The front desk gentleman on the dedicated Elite counter even stated as follows “You are not entitled for any upgrade”. That’s extremely shameful for the management to not have trained their staff on basic communication skills. Loyalty should be rewarded, not ignored. Membership tiers are achieved by spending tens of thousands of dollars and you would apply all gimmicks to charge an extra $60? It's disappointing to see a reputable hotel chain resort to such measures to avoid providing benefits.

For the first time in 29 years of visiting Ottawa, I chose to stay at the Westin instead of my usual hotel, where I’ve stayed for the past decade. The change was needed as I was no longer being treated as a regular customer and was growing increasingly frustrated. The Westin exceeded my expectations. They accommodated me in room 1621, which had a stunning view of Parliament. The room was spacious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The mobile check-in process was seamless; I used valet parking and was in my room within ten minutes. I was particularly impressed with the elevators, which were fast and equipped with advanced technology. I’ll definitely be returning for my future business trips.
