Should visit once in a lifetime

L3435VFjohnj (Los Angeles, California) on Jun 20, 2024

This hotel is fun and beautiful, we seen black swan and the flamingos. Rating based on the room: we stayed at junior suite with separately living room and bedroom. There’s only one AC controller in the living room and the bedroom was super hot. The balcony is very large and overlooking beautiful landscape and not so beautiful parking. There are charging ports on each side of the night stand. The bed is not the most comfy as to a JW standard and the pillows were flat. They have a cheap coffee machine in the room. The bathroom amenity is very generous with sewing kit, cotton balls, cotton swap, shower cap. The shampoo and body wash were great. Shower pressure is good. But the towels were ultra thin. The hair dryer was a cheap one. Also, this JW doesn’t offer slippers. Gym was very nice with tons of cardio equipment and weights. Mikado served horrible food. Overall, I didn’t think this JW meets a JW standard. Although I do appreciate that they renovated and updated the furnishings. It is a beautiful hotel but the room was not as comfortable as I expected for a JW.

A REAL Desert Resort

DawnEve7 (San Juan Capistrano, California) on Jun 11, 2024

This hotel has been a tried and true over many, many decades for me. Started going here in the 80's with my girl friends (remember Costas Nightclub?) and watched it's many shapes over the years. It seems as if the renovations have just about been completed and the room was just lovely. For families & couples. Valet, Bell Staff & Guest Service Agents: Very polite, prompt and helpful. We were given 2 cute little stuffed birds at check in, so fun & cute! See pic Grounds & Public Areas: Immaculate, inviting, and worth exploring. Don't forget to visit the bird sanctuary. It can be loud out of nowhere, so just be prepared for a surprise scream or two. But who doesn't love talking birds! Reserve your boat ride around the property online. Gotta do that at least once. Room: Clean, well stocked, refrigerator in room and newly decorated. Bed was soft & cozy, lots of pillows. Smelled fresh. It wasn't extremely hot outside but in the 90's and room stayed comfortable with A/C. Hallways and adjoining rooms were super quiet even though we saw large families with kids. Pool: Actually I am a complete pool snob. Why have a pool and not keep it at the perfect temperature to use? Well they nailed it. It was not too cold, not too hot, it was just right! OK - now for the complicated part, the seating arrangements... Important - if you have kids: Go cross the bridge from the hotel towards the pool and find seating to the right. This is close to the shallow end, steps and bathrooms. To the left is the deeper area and more adult like. It's a huge pool so this is helpful to know. Blue chairs are an extra outrageous amount (I think it was $125 chair) so find the chairs outside of this roped area. All chairs have numbers with a QR code on the back. This was confusing at first then I realized it is brilliant. So you can pull up menu with QR code and when you order if you are in the pool, they can bring items out to your numbered seat. Important they know where to bring the MaiTai. Bring your own pool toys from home, there is none for rent, they allow them. Room Service: Convenient ordering with your phone, prompt delivery, very nice selection of food choices. Expensive but to be expected. Coachella Valley Date Shake $15, but when in Rome...or Coachella gotta try it. Typical egg breakfast and juice $30 (was very good though). But the in room refrigerator may be worth stocking your own sodas, water, or whatever your fancy is. On site restaurants are available but see others reviews of their opinions. Starbucks in the lobby area is convenient for a quick pick up. Shops: We bought a pool noodle, a hat and sunscreen. $$$$ Wished we had brought a pool noodle, a hat and hadn't forgot sunscreen. But, super cute stuff at the stores and definitely items in some shops that you didn't know you needed until you see it, but still don't need it. Overall, I was there with 3 generations now and Costa's is a distant happy memory! I'll be back
