Older Hotels, charming, but also have issues.

This hotel is an older hotel, with a very distinct southwest 'arizona' feel to it. I have never used my gold tier status before, so was happy that they did provide me a free upgrade to a slightly upgraded room with a 'very' upgraded view upon my request on arrival. I had a beautiful view of camelback mountain, along with a quaint old style 'standing room only' balcony on which to enjoy a drink and view it from as the sun set. I was in a king bed suite, so it had a separate living room area from the bedroom with a nice little wet bar. cleanliness was average for these older hotels. the location is great, as I walked to the Fashion Square Mall, and old town from the hotel a few times during my stay (there is a free shuttle too). The complimentary breakfast buffet was great, especially because you could order eggs your way, including an omelet. Honestly, up until late in the evening of the last night, the only complaint I had was that the room smelled of smoke, like a lot of older hotels do. However, I went out for a 1am run to get a bite to eat, and was on the 4th floor, to find that both elevators were now out of order. I walked down the steps and spoke to someone from the front desk, who told me that the one had issues for a while, but now this other one had went out, service guy was to show up in the morning. The front desk person told me that there is another elevator on the other end of the building for the morning, if I need it. So, in the morning, I went to shower about 10am and there was no hot water. I took a cold shower, not happy. I then got packed and the service guy was working on the 4th floor at the elevator and confirmed both were still out. I made my way to the other end of the building with my three bags, only to find that elevator had no call button, it was missing... so, does that elevator work? can't say, but couldn't call it. I had to walk down 4 flights of stairs carrying three bags, and it wasn't easy. Good thing I already had that heart operation - heh. So, ended on a very bad note for me, but prior to 1am on the last night, I was happy with the place. That's my experience, for what it's worth.
A Must go
