Great time!

Friendliest staff ever! They made you feel important and if there was a problem, they tried to fix it right away. The entertainment staff had so much energy from morning until night, I don’t know how they do it. The food was good, the pool was nice, and the beach volleyball was great!!!

Not for families with older kids

F3954GWmichaels (Albertson, New York) on Feb 22, 2024

I have stayed in at least six different resorts in the Dominican Republic and this one was the most disappointing. Room quality and service by some staff members save this from being a one star experience. Let me start with the positives: 1) Check in- My family of five required two rooms. The representative at the front desk made sure that we got two rooms, with two beds each. She even called her manager to make sure that our rooms were in the same building and across from one another. Top notch customer service that I have not experienced in all of the resorts I have stayed at throughout the Dominican Republic. 2) Rooms are clean and well maintained. Wifi works substantially better than other resorts I have stayed at. Hot water and water pressure are reliable. I have stayed at the Cofresi Palm Resort before and my biggest reason for switching to here was their lack of reliable hot water for showering. 3) The resort has a buffet for lunch close to the beach. They make brick oven pizzas which are by far the best food option for lunch. 4) Trapeze lessons- This a nice feature of the resort where a very talented staff member teaches guests how to climb and do tricks on a trapeze. 5) Beach/Pool Chairs- easier to get a pool or beach chair than other places I have visited. Beach is easier to get a chair, but if you arrive by 9 AM you should be able to get a chair at either place. Now for the negatives: 1) This place is VERY SMALL. One pool. Two bars for the entire complex during the day. No swim up bars. Main buffet restaurant is very small with limited options. Very limited activities for older kids. Most of the problems with this place stem from its size. For all its faults, the Cofresi Palm had at least five different pools and at least eight different bars which included traditional and swim up options. 2) Food quality- This place has the lowest food quality of any resort I have stayed at in the Dominican Republic. The main buffet is small and lacks quality options for all three meals. The four a la carte restaurants are not open every day of the week, even when the resort is at full capacity. Lack of options and poor quality of food is far below what I have experienced at other resorts in the Dominican Republic. 3) Overall energy/vibe- What I liked about other resorts in the Dominican Republic is that there are parts of the resort for quiet and relaxation and other parts where there is more energy and activity. The overall vibe of this resort is super mellow and I found myself bored and at a loss for activities to do with my children ages 13, 11 and 8. The app for the resort says that there is billiards, foosball and ping pong on site. After not being able to find these options, a representative from the front desk told me it was at a local mall 5 minutes away by foot. I could not find these options there. 4) Lack of places to get drinking water. I understand that the Dominican Republic does not have potable water from sinks. However, it should be much easier to get drinking water at a resort. Perhaps a big jug in the reception area? 5) Kids club- I know this is a transitioning adults-only resort, but the kids club here is pretty pathetic. The club is designed for kids 5 and under and has a small kiddie pool. The Cofresi Palm has a kids club with a bigger pool (and slide) and actually has nightly activities that are age appropriate for kids 10 and under. In fairness to the Viva Wyndham, I should have researched the amount of pools and activities prior to booking. My main complaint is that we paid at least $1000 more to stay here and the quality of the food, entertainment and pools is far below the expectations that I had. I would certainly trade a lack of reliable hot water for more pools, better entertainment and much better food that I enjoyed at the Cofresi Palm. If I return to the Dominican Republic, I will most certainly not stay at the Viva Wyndham.
