Grand reception beautiful beach soon to be spoiled by people leaving cigarette butts in the sand no option for a smoke free area. Noisy beach, no option for serenity, rooms basic and dated. Lots of activities if you want that from your holiday. If you want to lie on the beach, snooze or read a book uninterrupted then avoid. Geared for Spanish, German and Italian guests predominantly. Buffet. Restaurant repetitive and in resort shop prices hugely inflated. 3rd time visiting Dominican and other resorts have served my needs better. I will not book with Viva again

Have just spent two weeks at this hotel and in my opinion it is only a three star. Ill start with the bad; On arrival was warmly greeted and checked in easily. Found out to my utter dismay we were located on a third floor without a lift. I have a knee injury and although i had informed tui about this is was not passed on to the hotel. Informed reception and the tui rep. Took four days and many visits to reception and two to the rep to finally move to a ground floor. Apparently no rooms were available. By this time i was in considerable pain. I had two rooms together but ended up being apart from my family. I had requested rooms adjoining. Initially we were told there was a lift - no lift. Was eventually given a lovely room. Housekeeping is a joke. The towels and bedding was not clean. Towels were only left if you managed to chase the cleaning staff. One of our rooms was not cleaned for four days despite the staff coming in. she left and never returned. The cleaners were always standing at the bottom of the block talking and eating not actually working. The cleaners at the second room located in a different section of the hotel worked very had though . Maintenance was also a joke. The shower in the first room leaked, the toiled seat was broken, the air conditions kept going off and there were numerous other things in one of our rooms which although reported never were fixed despite reception reporting the issues. The hotel had a two bottle of water a day policy which was labelled. However, the first week we had difficulty even getting one. Again this was reported. The staff in green shirts were annoying but to be fair they are only doing their jobs and usually left you alone if you asked. However, they also had people selling items in the lobby. One of these gentlemen tried to charge me 100usd for two silver bracelets. After bartering we settled on a price. I gave him the money and he said he saw more money in my purse. He demanded i give him my purse so he could see. He also demanded commission on the items i brought. I have reported him to the hotel and they are dealing with it. The wifi was not brilliant especially if you were trying to look or book anything on the app but guest services were always there to do it if you had difficulty. Yes you do pay for the safe which is 2usd per day per person in the room. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. The room keys for one of the rooms kept needing a reboot. Now for the good; Beautiful location clean and right on the beach Majority of the meals were of good quality and tasty. Lovely selection of little cakes. Compliments to the guy at the burger shop, the staff at viva mexico and La Roca. Lovely service from the staff in these resturants and very welcoming. There is a lovely man in the buffet who always serves tea and coffee with a smile and a friendly word. I was unable to get his name Overall the staff always spoke and were friendly especially when you were making as many complaints as i did. Compliments to the on site dive school reef oasis - excellent service and very helpful. Lots of well cared for cats (Furry meet and greets) which for me was a lovely touch. The tiki bar serves delicious smoothies and the staff seemed to always remember what you liked There are building works going on to modernise the hotel and those buildings which are finished look lovely. The gardens were clean and tidy Overall there wasnt a lot of activities that were advertised on a board they were all on the app which was an issue in itself. There are a few shops and a pharmacy which were very good. Check out was easy and fast and we were given a small compensation for the issues we had which was a kind gesture. For me personally it is not a hotel i would return to, nor at this time recommend. There are just too many issues at this time that need addressing.
