Great Enterteinment, great vacation

Coco C on Feb 15, 2024

The resort is located on a lovely beach, our room overlooking the beach had a cute balcony. Entertainment is the real added value. Our congratulations go to the singer Paolo: his evening parties are the real show and his music at sunset is pure magic. The food is not of the highest level and neither are the drinks. Inside the resort there is a liquor store and you can buy drinks. The events organized by the entertainers are of a good standard. We had a great time at the foam party: Alessia is the best!

Complex really nice but rooms woeful

105normang (Jarrow, United Kingdom) on Feb 14, 2024

Good stuff. The gardens our balcony looked out onto were great. Geese, ducks, peacocks etc were a joy to look at sometimes. Most of the staff were very pleasant and cheerful. The beach area was really good. Only going in the water for a few yards and seeing loads of tropical fish was a huge plus. In general the food was good. If you didn't like the food at a certain place then they had other options. We had been told by someone that they rush you out and are very strict in the speciality restaurants...that was totally untrue for us. The staff were more than accommodating, sitting 6 of us together and never being rushed. Complex was quite clean overall. Location is quite as as you can walk out to a few shops/bars etc...and get a 10 minute taxi ride to Bayahibe for more choice. The hotel did let us have a later check out with no extra cost. Bad stuff. The rooms are desperate for a refurb. Definitely wouldn't stay in the same blocks of rooms again. Although the maids etc were very pleasant they do not know how to make a bed...or do a 'proper' clean. Floors didn't seem to be swept and shower screen definitely not cleaned. Sheets only changed day before we left...on a 10 day stay. The beer was pretty watery and untasty on the site. Going out of the complex and getting the same beer but bottled was a huge difference. We were pretty gobsmacked that most of the bar staff didn't know how to make cocktails. As soon as you found one who did we made sure we asked the same one every time...cheers Yonathan. The wifi is horrendous in some places at the Palace. Seemed to me like the Beach hotel had a much better signal. I think the Palace is missing something by not actually having a 'beach bar'. The Tiki Bar which served fruit smoothies would be ideal to enhance into a beach bar on an evening. Tip: get yourself a smoothy and go to bar for a shot of rum to add in it.

Maybe Try another Hotel - Average

MickyJackson (Hebburn, United Kingdom) on Feb 14, 2024

Pro's :- Beautiful Complex with well kept gardens. Loved the birds & wildlife roaming around the complex. Peacocks, geese, heron's, iguanas etc. Various pools & long stretches of beach. We always managed to get sunbeds mainly on the beach after dragging a few together but you still get the W@nk@s who place towels on beds to reserve them & turn up 3 hours later - so selfish & rude & this happened around the pool too. Staff dont check this & nothing is mentioned on check in. My holiday pet hate. The snorkeling is fantastic only 20 yards into the sea you will see a lot of fish. We filmed under water whilst feeding them bread & it was amazing. Lots of good staff who work hard but not many know English so had issues trying to order drinks etc - Spanish seems to be the main language. Yonathan in the pool bar was excellent. Speaks English & knows how to prepare the drinks. Thank You. Specialty restaurants were generally very good, Viva Cafe & Italian were our favorites, Atlantis was good & Mexican was average (Not much flavour & dry) You have to use their viva app to book them & we had no issues. Check in & out was fine. Cons :- We were in block 64 (6445) & these rooms are desperate for a makeover (long overdue) The bedroom had a few ants in it & even in my bed a few nights. Only bin is in the bathroom. The bathroom is terrible - not even 1 star. A company like Wyndham shouldn't be selling rooms in this state. We had 2 leaks in the bathroom which was eventually fixed on our second last day. The brackets holding the shower screen were very rusty & the tiles looked so dirty & tired. Cleaners did an average job although our bedding was only changed on our second last day as they thought we were checking out so left no Toilet tissue or towels. I had to track down the maids myself to sort this out. I asked at check out which blocks have refurbished rooms in case i came back (NOT) and the answer was you have to upgrade to VIP to get best rooms. Wyndham shouldn't be doing this. Charging $22 for the safe was scandalous. It had to be reset on our second last day too as had an error on it !! Buffet food was ok - always something that took your fancy - loved the omelette station in the morning. Bread always nice & fresh. Juices were warm so always needed ice in them. Entertainment was decent & they work hard from the small amount we saw. Beach side looked better & so much more going on with better choices at the buffet's. You have to pay for specialty restaurants though ($12.5 each) & cant use palace facilities but i'm sure people did. We popped out of the hotel & there's a small selection of bars & shops which we enjoyed & serve decent alcohol. We also went to Bayahibe town & La Romana town but these were a bit quiet. I would try Punta Cana next time if i return to DR but the worlds a big place so probably another island in all honesty. I felt i didnt get value for money & the bedroom was shocking.
