Definitely not 5 star

Happiness23506371955 on Sep 27, 2023

Travelled as a group of 14 family and friends, paying approximately 4k per couple. big resort but badly designed. Some parts of hotels not always open so have to use other sister hotels. Not good if you don't have access to the hotel you specifically paid for. Transport available but always busy. Bathroom layout bad with jacuzzi bath/ shower leaking all over floor. Had to move rooms. Family had to move rooms 3 times! Dangerous as cold slip easily. Food always cold, lot of choice but not edible. Tried speciality restaurants but much the same. Booking in steakhouse for 7pm wasn't taken until nearly 9 then all steaks burnt and cold. Pools filthy, guys wash the sides of them but don't remove the particles in pool. Weekends are full of locals, noise etc, and pools are full of limes etc used in drinks. Beach horrendous so rough I am surprised no one is seriously hurt and constantly bombarded with looky looky men. Lack of public toilets available. Spent 4 days in bed with diahorrea, reported to hotel and offered hydrotherapy but unable to use it as didn't feel well enough. Never again

Needs Work But Has Tons Of Potential

FULL REVIEW LENGTHY REVIEW: Day 1- arrived at 12 didn’t get a room till 3:30 Went to Helios to kill time Drinks were good, staff friendly Steak was super disappointing, fish (Mahi Mahi) was undercooked, pepperoni pizza was ok best dish was the rice and ground beef, the pork chops were passable By the time we got to our room our bands weren’t working. We were instructed to go to the main reception to have that fixed which was another inconvenience. The room was great however they didn’t change the sheets. One pillow case had blood stains on it. The bed sheet had a yellow mouth shaped stain on it as well. Contacted the front desk to have the sheets changed immediately. First Restaurant was Capricho, Our waitress Scarlet was a delight. Warm friendly service with a smile. The bread was tough not freshly baked may be a day or so old We started with the seafood salad and shrimp trio. The shrimp trio was ok. The seafood salad was disgusting. Best way I could explain it was it was “too fishy” maybe it was undercooked but the taste was not pleasing at all. Next we shared a plate of the linguini with scallops which was good. We had the flank steak which I just say I was very happy given my experiences this far. Perfectly medium rare with a nice crust. I did notice they don’t have black pepper only salt which is disappointing. My lady had the lobster with garlic sauce. The lobster was over cooked, dry and rubbery. Upon our return to our room (2 hours later) the housekeepers haven’t come to change the dirty sheets. I reach out to the butler Cesario only to be told they are on the way. Another hour and the housekeepers finally arrive to change the sheets. Before the end of the day I realized the AC isn’t pumping cold air. I notified the housekeepers who stated they will notify the front desk to have the HVAC tech come. The HVAC tech came 30 minutes later only to say he has to make some adjustments and will return. Another hour later and no word. I reach out to Cesario and was told the tech is working on it externally. Thankfully the ceiling fan was at least working but it was going to be a long night so I took a very cold shower and went to bed. Day 2 - After a hot restless night, we spoke with Cesario around 7am and agreed to change rooms. My wife and I were irritated from the day before and the restless night that we became visibly snappy at each other. Just the tediousness of having to repack all of our stuff all over again when we should be enjoying the sun poolside with full stomachs and liquor (I mean this is what we paid for after all) around 9:30 Cesario helped us move upstairs and we stated to unpack again. Cesar returned again around 10 and offered us a complimentary beachside lobster dinner for all the inconveniences we thanked him for his efforts. Finally we went to the lobby to switch up our armbands only to rush back to Helios because they were closing up the breakfast (closing at 11) needless to say we grabbed whatever we could but there was a big selection of food. The food was much better than the day before but given the time we had to rush our food instead of relaxing and enjoying it. Felt like AM Rush hour or having to take a 30 minute lunch break…..after all this we finally got to go to the pool anticipating that the worse is now finally behind us . Stay in the pool for couple of hours and get upstairs ordered room service. All I can say is ROYAL CLUB SANDWICH!!! Think Turkey club with lettuce tomato and crispy bacon. But for the bun instead of a burger bun, it’s a sweet toast. i think i tasted maple syrup also but that could just be me…. My tastes buds were dancing merengue. We also got an unexpected visit from the staff offering a bottle of champagne. For dinner we went to Kusco. The food was exquisite everything from the sushi down to the main dish everything we selected was absolutely delicious absolutely a must try. We retuned back to our room to finish the evening. Day 3- We spent the first half of the day doing a mandatory hotel introduction for their Travel Club service. This was supposed to be only 90 minutes but we were there from 8:30 -1:00pm. It was irritating because we explained that we have not had the best experience yet with the resort. FULL DISCLOSURE: we did sign up for the Travel Club because my lady and I do like to travel a lot and we did see the value in the discounts provided. HOWEVER if you are not interested in this program DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The agents will be pushy because they are paid based on how many people they can get to do the presentation but do not feel pressured to do it if you do not want to. After the presentation we went back to the pool had some burgers and Nachos from the grill and hung out by the swim up bar for a few hours till it was ready to go up and get dressed for dinner. We went to the Italian themed restaurant Portofino. The food was fantastic. Definitely recommend the Fettuccine Churrasquera and the Zuppa di Pasta Fagioli. We wrap up the evening in the new room it was much cooler and we were able to get a good nights' rest. Day 4- FINALLY A FULL DAY FOR OURSELVES! Spent the first half of the day at the beach then the second half a the pool. Breakfast a Capricho. MUUUUCH better than Helios. Lunch we had the grill again then pool w/ swim up bar. Our Highlight of the day was the CHIC Restaurant and Cabaret. The show was SPECTACULAR!!! it's a MUST SEE. DO NOT MISS IT!. Food was DELICIOUS. I did feel bad for the staff they were running around like headless chickens so if anything i would say they need more staff members to deal with the crowds. I spent most of my tip money that night that's how great they were and how friendly and talented the staff was. Day 5 Final Day- Since we signed up for the Travel Club we got exclusive access the the Spa and the Hydrotherapy pool.... this alone made all the stresses and struggles worth the aggravation. we were so relaxed. the serene music. the waterfall, the jet massages, i was in complete heaven. the food a good too. healthy juices and infused waters. a great way to finish our day. Overall this hotel has a lot of promise they need to really take consumer feedback seriously. they have the potential to be a real 5 star hotel.
