Not a 4 star and TUI photos misleading

Karen B on Jul 12, 2025

Very disappointed. I honestly feel it is mis-sold. Definitely not 4 star. The photos make it look sensational. Rooms do their job but are very dated. That was fine though. On arrival the door wouldn't lock, but did get fixed quite quickly. The TV remote needed new batteries - again all fine as it was sorted after a couple days later after asking 3 times politely. You expect a few hiccups. But we were a little frustrated, and annoyed, that staff took things out of our room to use themselves, or put in another room, such as our electric card and the fixed remote. When we questioned it, no-one was helpful. We were astounded as we were in the room at the time and had to seek them ourselves out to bring them back. The maid looked embarrassed and gave us the card back as we thought it was a power cut, so we could put the electric back on. She had taken it out when she left the room, with us in it? The security man walked right in and put our tv on and channel hopped, and when we asked why he said ‘broken’ waving the remote around despite him seeing it working and us saying ‘no’. He then walked off with it. This was 10 days after we had the new batteries put in? We waited and he didn’t return. So, we had to seek it out. He’d just put in in another room and locked the door and walked off. The same maid knew where it was and we eventually retrieved it. If we hadn’t been in our room at the time we would thought we’d lost these items and probably have incurred a charge for losing them!! When trying to speak to reception they said not to tell TUI. Most staff were lovely and friendly, until you had an issue. The entertainment staff fantastic and we enjoyed the evening entertainment – despite the excessive volume, but managed to still have a conversation by shouting to each other. Most bar staff great too. Main buffet: If you don't tip waiting on staff constantly, they can tend to leave you waiting for water or drinks when dining in the main buffet restaurant. I went to get my own on a few occasions, as we’d almost finished our meal and were desperately thirsty. It's a little annoying that large swathes of staff eat in the main restaurant around 12:30 lunch – yes, they need to eat, but unfortunately, they would often barge in-front of guests and take large amounts leaving little or actually nothing left on the serving plates. We heard many complaints the food was cold, and to be honest our Rep who was fantastic had a word and it improved briefly. The food in the main dining area was very repetitive for 2 weeks, but they do have other restaurants. Unfortunately, the Italian and Mexican have cold ‘hot’ food and warm drinks. The hottest food is at the Tapa’s bar at lunch time. But there is only so much pizza you can eat. We like a bit of music but wow- it was so loud by the main pool, you had to shout to the person sat next to you, very excessive, and lots of complaints about it. Not enjoyable at all. The TUI description states parasols around both pools - there isn't, but you can shade under the trees away from the pool. The smaller pool nearer to the beach is the nicer one of the 2 main pools, as the large main pool is in need of maintenance as it is crumbling in parts and you can see the crumbling beige patches against the blue bottom - and a number of people caught their toes on it - including us. TUI state the seas are peacock feather in colour. I didn't know peacocks were brown? You can't see your toes when it's ankle deep. The sand is beautiful and sun bleached, but it is stony and bumpy whilst wading into the sea, so flip flops needed. Having been to Dominican twice before we knew about seaweed, but it was quite bad this year - not TUI's fault obviously, nor the hotel. They did a great job of clearing it off the beach, but it is stored in massive piles on the border of the next hotel along - so it really smells at times. I think TUI should highlight this more clearly and state there ‘will be’ seaweed, not maybe. TUI do treat you to a little up-grade so you are ‘semi-premium’ but it’s all very confusing. Personally, we (and other guests we met) would not return nor recommend this hotel

Nice Hotel Ruined by Blasting Pool Music

Persona N on Jul 09, 2025

The hotel and its location are perfectly fine – no complaints there. However, one major issue is the extremely loud music played in the pool area. The volume is absurdly high, to the point where it's difficult to relax or have a conversation. It completely ruins the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. Turning the volume down to a more reasonable level would make a big difference and greatly improve the overall experience for guests who are here to unwind.
