OK if you don't want a nice, clean sandy beach and to swim in the sea :(

I've been to many resorts in the DR as I love it so much. Sadly, we flew 8 hours to find that if you want to lounge on the beach, this isn't the resort. I could've had a better/less expensive stay in Europe. The room was slightly dated but clean. The a la carte restaurants were awful. Dry food that had been pre cooked a long time before we ordered it so we stopped using them. The buffet was rammed at the weekend with Puerto Ricans so it was slim pickings sadly. To summarise, I came to the Caribbean for a beach holiday but the smell of the old seaweed which is piled high on the beach and full of bitey beach flies and thick seaweed in the water make it impossible to rellax - sea side. I know its nature and the fellas work hard to clear/control the seaweed but its a long way to come for a pool holiday. Look at Bayahibe instead - much nicer.
Thank you Ocean Blue

I’m not really the type to go on a resort holiday every year, but Ocean Blue might just have made me reconsider that. This might be a little long, but Ocean Blue earned this! Upon our arrival at Ocean Blue, we were not particularly happy due to our airport transfer taking over 1 hour 30 mins, but that changed very quickly. The atmosphere here and the attentiveness of the staff made a difference for us immediately. The crowd here is such a mixed variety, you will find young groups of friends, older groups of friends, young families, older families, the lot, so I don’t think anyone would feel particularly out of place here. I would urge everybody to try and feed the Flamingo, I promise it is harmless. Even if it catches your hand a little, it is the furthest thing from painful!! It really enjoys the cornbread from Mikes Coffee if you want to try it. Food Onto the food. Frustratingly the best, or what I heard were the best restaurants require reservations, but you will be given all the details on how to do this when you check in. Of course I understand why, but still a little frustrating. We didn’t actually manage to get to any of the restaurants during our stay, but we didn’t make too much of an effort after our first week. That being said, the steak house and Japanese restaurants earned rave reviews from many people we met whilst here. Now the buffet was very interesting. Breakfast, being a non-pork eater was pretty difficult. There are options don’t get me wrong, but not many that I was particularly interested in. I would definitely recommend the omelettes though. For lunch and dinner, I would say the buffets were hit and miss. Now when I say miss, I still found more than enough options I did enjoy to eat, but compared to when the buffet hit, there was a big difference. For example, when the buffet had a bad day, I could fit all of the options I liked onto one plate, whereas when the buffet had a good day, I couldn’t get everything I wanted on one plate, I would need to make a second trip, which I’d be able to fill my plate with completely different foods to the first plate. Overall, I would give the food 3.5/5, some good days, some bad, but I think regardless you’ll find something you enjoy most days. Room service from what we had was not great and I think the room service breakfast you need to pay extra for. I would suggest going down to Overtime if you have any cravings for food after 11pm, not bad at all, but I wasn’t sober most times I ate here. Entertainment The entertainment I have to say was pretty enjoyable. One piece of advice I will give to everyone reading, is not to care about what anyone else thinks, I promise you no one is judging your dancing or performing skills, trust me,just go and have fun. Entertainment maybe got a little repetitive at times, but the energy the staff bring every time will make sure you always enjoy it. The shows in the theatre and the stage outside of the lobby are great, we really enjoyed those. Poolside entertainment is great too, but can get a little loud if your room is close to the pool. I can understand why some reviews mention the poolside entertainment being a little inappropriate for kids at times, but it’s not overly imo. To add to that, you cannot see anything of the entertainment from the shallow side of the pool or in the 1st pool, so it is very very avoidable for any parents that might be bothered or concerned by it. Lastly, I have to mention the parties and performances on the beach, phenomenal. We were lucky to see a fire show and it did not disappoint at all. Staff I didn’t really want to name drop any staff in particular because there are so many names I don’t remember (I blame the alcohol) that definitely deserve a mention too. I read a review before my stay about staff here being rude? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I think people need to remember there is a language barrier here and I’m certain the staff have better English than many of us have Spanish, so I would rubbish those claims of rude staff. Cherry, Joselo, Franklin, Pokemon we’re just a few standouts of many that made our stay here one to remember. Of course there can be improvements here at Ocean Blue, I do not deny that. I struggled with a faulty door throughout my stay, but the staff were always responsive to get it sorted for me. Laundry is extremely difficult to arrange, or was at least for me, I gave up after a couple of days. Some areas of wear and tear throughout the resort, but again, the staff are onto it. We constantly saw repairs and redecorations being carried out. Nonetheless, we had an absolutely phenomenal two weeks at Ocean Blue and it is absolutely impossible that we won’t eventually return.
