Shockingly terrible service and food.

Our booking was at the Colonial. It took us an hour to check in as there were only 2 staff members and a long queue. Staff unresponsive to getting more staff to help. Check in was inexplicably long and without any real welcome. Our rooms were old, drab and depressing. Smelt terrible. One was unclean with hairs in the bathroom and a toilet that wouldn’t flush. Curtains hanging off the walls. Unable to switch off aircon or increase temperature so had a very uncomfortable and cold night. One in our party went back to reception to complain immediately and managed to upgrade to a decent room after another hour of very poor and disinterested service. There were plenty of other guests trying to do the same apparently. We had been travelling for 24 hrs so left it until morning. When we did we found Staff very uncaring and disinterested but after much persuasion they did find rooms for us later on which we paid for online during the day whilst we were out via a serious of malfunctioning payment links. We left our cases packed up in the room whilst we were on a day trip. When we returned to reception to get our new room bands they had sold on our room to someone else. We were told to wait another 2 hours so at 7pm we still had no room and no one knew where our luggage was. This whole process took another hour and a half at reception. We had to leave to get ready for an evening family gathering with four of us sharing a room to get ready as they didn’t have a room. We were told that we’d get a WhatsApp before 7pm to inform us of when this room was ready but it never came. In the end we went to one of the other hotels on site, Kantenna, and found a very helpful receptionist, Marco, who sorted everything out. Was such a relief to find him after getting nowhere with anyone else. Extremely stressful and surreal experience. No rooms and no one knowing where our luggage was and didn’t seem to care at all! The staff seem very unhappy and totally incompetent in many cases. Something going very, very wrong here. Never experienced anything this bad. There were so many incidents of poor service during our stay it became almost comical. The food was consistently very bad across the whole resort. Always bland, overcooked, never served in the right order, always orders missing. Staff seemed to find it funny when guests lost patience. Some good staff here but clear that the chaos was affecting them too. If we weren’t here for a wedding we would have left straight away. We’ve filled in surveys, feedback to staff but no real interest in improving our stay apart from Marco as previously mentioned who was exceptional in quickly and professionally correcting the errors and mismanagement of the Colonial reception ‘team’. We’ve been told to expect some compensation but not at all confident that will happen. A tragedy of a hotel. Don’t go.

PROs: beautiful white sandy beach, beautiful pool and great for children (amazing splash pad and waterslides for kids), nightly entertainment, very friendly staff CONS Food in the buffet almost always served cold Barely any bedding provided (only one thin sheet) Very big resort (3in 1) so a lot of walking (but they do have shuttle service for farther distances) Very long check in at the front desk (over 2 hours at least)
