Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort and Spa

Cancun 4.5

This resort is a nature lover's paradise: its beautiful beaches lead into crystal clear water and the largest coral reef on the Mayan Riviera where visitors can snorkel and scuba dive. There is a cenote (natural cave) and Mayan ruins on the property which blends with the architecture influenced by ancient Mayan designs.

Other Fees: Paid directly to the hotel.

Lovely resort but definitely not 5 star in my opinion

Sara S on Feb 24, 2024

Start with the positives. The resort is beautiful. Loved the animals going around, especially the monkeys. The beds were really comfortable and most of the staff were in incredibly friendly and helpful. Looks were lovely and a nice beach. The kayaking and snorkelling was good. The bbq at the beach was great, burgers were really tasty. We loved the lazy river too but can get busy and cluttered. Negatives - our room 2715 smelled damp and my bedsheets at night always felt damp. Bath looked stained and dirty. Feels like it’s under staffed. We had to queue A LOT, for bars, coffe shop, breakfast and dinner. Lots of times at breakfast we had to wait a while for fresh food to come out. Was really annoying they would close one side of the buffet often and so the other side because incredibly busy and the last thing I wanted to do was queue for 15 mins past bread to get to the meals and you couldn’t ’skip the queue’ even if you didn’t want the bread or salad. Cocktails - really very disappointing. Not 5 star quality at all. Served in plastic cups and not one tastes the same as the last one. Some bars used better liquor and seemed to get better in the members areas. Do recommend the mango tango and strawberry margaritas. The mojitos were genuinely the worst ones I’ve ever had that were freshly made and those are usually my favourites. The al a carte restaurants were definitely not the quality expected for a 5 star resort. The Brazilian only brought the meats round once and were limited with the portion given. The steak house steak was very fatty. We enjoyed the Mexican and Japanese but again not 5 start quality. But the others I would give 3 stars at best. Ended up cancelling the Italian restaurant as their pizza wasn’t nice and heard so many bad things about it.

Generally ok…

Bad: Food was very bad quality. Quantity over quality. My son got food poisoning and hotel was very defensive over this even though we spoke to numerous other couples who came down with it at the same time. Stay away from the burgers and red meat, especially everything at the BBQ. Night time entertainment was very poor. We were disappointed every evening. Facilities in the room were not what you’d expect from a resort like this. No conditioner. We finally got a hairdryer but its power was so weak it didn’t actually dry! No visible gluten free or dairy free options. You had to ask for these which meant waiting around for a member of staff (hard to find one available) and then for them to fetch it. This all took took time by which point the rest of the family had finished eating. Bath tub was filthy. Funny smell in many of the restaurants Good: Lovely facilities and loved all the animals about Trustworthy staff and guests The bike tour was brilliant, the guy giving the tour had everyone laughing the whole time Felipe was great at the front managing bags and organising us good priced trips The Japanese restaurant was brilliant and the Brazilian was good too
