Review of visit (27/11 - 11/12/2025) CHAC ROOMS

john w (Leeds, United Kingdom) on Dec 13, 2025

Hotel - once we realised which of the two receptions to attends at, we completed the necessary documentation and tax payments but felt that the reception team could have been more interactive and assist more with the digital process as we were the only one booking in due to delay at airport. Limited information provided but the greeting was completely different by the bell boys who could not have done anymore for us. They placed the suitcases, hand luggage, and mobility aid into the shuttle bus and then gave us a brief tour of the upper part of the complex and waited for us to get into the room before taking us back for food at the buffet restaurant. 3.5/5 for reception and 5/5 bell boys. Room - superb even though not renovated. We were in the CHAC building and on the middle floor. There is a lift within this building and other than during a power cut, never was out of order. Toward the end of the holiday, the maintenance were starting to prepare the building for painting. The room itself was entry through the excellent wrist band system and automatic lights by the door. This opened to a corridor with the wardrobe to the left, then the entrance into the bathroom. Just beyond the bathroom was the fridge and coffee machine before the main room opens up to a massive bed (potentially two doubles size), 2 side units with 2 USB points and plug sockets, then an island before the double sofa bed, table, 2 chairs and vanity unit. This area had a ceiling fan before going out onto the balcony which had a table and 2 chairs and overlooked the 'jungle' aspect of the hotel. The bathroom had a large shower area with frosted door, toilet in a large area, sink with mirror and double person jacuzzi bath and 2 robes. There were plenty of towels. 5/5 Concierge - Daynel - superb. Nothing was too much. Sorted out teething problems with the room immediately and then explained the whole complex of the hotel, detailing the restaurants, pools, beach, timings, and then booked four restaurants for us. He explained the routes to areas which did not include steps due to mobility issues and spoke to us every day he was present. He organised for the full room bedding to be changed due to insect bites and when they continued, got Aloe Vera and bug spray for the room without being asked which went over and above what we expected. He always asked of we wanted the shuttle bus and arranged for the bell boys to collect our cases at the conclusion of the holiday. 5/5 Pools - there are 4 pools and a lazy river. The children's pool opened mid-holiday (end of November) and seemed well maintained and very clean but we did not use this. I am reviewing the pools as a disabled user so these are my thoughts as someone who cannot climb ladders to leave or enter pools. Pool 1 - Aura activities pool was our preferred choice as it had a wide and gently sloping ramp into the water and was no deeper than 1.6 metres with several raised areas for sitting on and had facilities including water volleyball, water polo, water basketball, aqua gym/zumba/aerobics, and the swim up Aura wet bar. This was a bonus in the extreme heat but as with everything, spoilt by excessive drinkers who closed the pool for two afternoons with body fluids meaning a deep clean was needed. The pool opened at 09:00 with several lifeguards present. The bar opened around 10 and the entertainment began at 11. There were ample sun loungers although often the pool side ones were 'reserved' with towels and often left unattended for several hours but there were more at this pool than others. This is the location for the foam party on a Friday which is well managed and constantly asks for people to be aware of children being present and tried to get an area for them to ensure that they were safe. 5/5 Relaxing pool / quiet pool was next nearest but this was not used as there are only steps in and out via ladders so not disabled friendly. Lazy river is fantastic. Plenty of rings to use or take your own inflatable, or walk around. It is relaxing and you can see natural wildlife as well as fauna. There is no limit to usage but it is not manned with a lifeguard and has steps in and out. Well worth a laze around. 5/5 Pool 3 - Prana pool was not used but was large but seemed to have less sun loungers, There are water loungers in the pool and a swim up bar. There are 2 small areas to gain entry on either staircase steps in one corner or a small slope in the other for disabled access. Restaurants - The Park - only used for one breakfast as opens at 07:00 hours. Large and spacious restaurant with ample room to sit in comfort and choice of food was through several stations. Attentive waiters but the 'would you like Tequila' on every approach was a bit much for me as someone who does not drink but I appreciate the sentiment as we were in Mexico. If a tea is wanted with milk, you must ask for a tea with milk and the waiting team will gladly bring it to you. Water is replenished regularly. The restaurant was clean and once you had provided your room number, you could sit anywhere. 4.5/5 Verbena - this was used for evening meals when not at a booked location. This again was large but did fill quickly around 19:30-20:00 hours when you were shown where to sit. Attentive waiting team and drinks were free flowing. There are several stations with chefs present to cook to your demands as well as a choice of areas, such as rice, pasta, meat, pizza, gluten free, puddings, specialised areas (Thanksgiving was celebrated here) and fish with salad bars. There is an ice cream bar at the very back of the restaurant tucked away. This was a clean area and can accommodate large parties. 4.5/5 A-La-Carte restaurants - Bazaar - Mediterranean - booked but did not go. Tonino - Italian - small restaurant which needs to be booked and enjoyed. There is a buffet style pre-starter where you can sample bread, chesses, meat, and salads. Then the starter is ordered, which are all on a QR code to scan when you enter and are seated. There are paper menus if the QR code does not work, which happened at some restaurants. The menu is varied and should cater for all but they do cook to order so I had certain items removed from my choices to meet my needs. We had 4-courses and the food was warm and welcoming. Is it fine dining, probably not but it is a step up from the buffet and an enjoyable evening. The restaurant was clean and tidy with attentive staff. 4/5 Carnal - fine dining - did not go to as we are fussy eaters but looked in and seemed popular. Oishii - Panasian - show kitchen with extensive menu of 3 starters, which you are encouraged to eat, then the main course cooked live with the chef throwing knives around, commentating on the cooking and flicking food for you to catch, then a choice of pudding. It is a long evening and there is always a queue waiting to go in. You sit around a hot plate (14 people) and watch the show whilst sampling the delicacies from the area. It was great to watch but as fussy eaters, the starters were not things we would eat but the main and pudding were delicious. Everyone else on the table finished each of the starters so clearly good. 4/5 Lima - Peruvian - The first restaurant to go to and then it was closed for the rest of the holiday. It was another small one but clean and friendly. The food was good but with not eating Peruvian before, found it to be tasty but not sure how authentic. The steak was nice and cooked as requested. 4/5 Butchers - Smoke and grill - went twice here for the steaks. This is a large restaurant but one which tends to fill up quickly. The order we requested had items removed and this was no issue. The corn soup was lovely, as was the Caesar salad and the chicken soup. The steaks we had were cooked to our liking and prior to starting the food, we were asked to cut into the steak to check the finish. The puddings were American and wonderful. This was our favourite location and wished we could have got in at the beginning of the holiday too. Pueblito Lindo - Mexican - did not visit but this was the location for breakfast and lunch daily. For the buffet, it is great. Beside the pool and a friendly waiting team. There are chefs on hand in the morning for eggs and pancakes then in the lunch menu, for taco and fajitas plus meat section. This sits with the 'grab and go' window if you do not want to sit inside and offers burgers, hot dogs, chips and then alternates with wedges, onion rings, chicken wings, with salad and an ice cream bar. 5/5 Casa Alma - Raw bar - at the beach and did not attend. Bars - I do not drink so did not go to the bars other than the Black Sheep to watch an evening football game. I will not comment on these due to limited experience. Evening entertainment - this was very good. It is usually 45-minutes long and after the kid's club. We went to watch Grease, Michael Jackson, Lion King, and disco fever. These were all lip-sync to the original sound track with the entertainment team choreographed routines, often shorter versions of the original films. Great nights out but they do fill up quickly as it is open to all. We did not go to the white party or fire show as they were toward the beach. 5/5 Tostado - coffee shop was a must and we went every evening for the ice cream. Several flavours and they were all great. The staff are so friendly and bubbly with smiles on their faces right up to the 22:00 hour close. 5/5 Cleaning - this was okay, not brilliant but it is a large complex with a small housekeeping team. The floor was not swept but it was clean daily. We used the lights on the door (do not disturb and room ready) to traffic light the housekeeping team. One of the dressing gowns went missing and this was soon replaced when reported. No issues with the safe or movement of valuables as previously highlighted on other reviews. Although clean, expected more from the star of the hotel (towel animals) but the room was basic for cleaning and maintained to the standard required for a room to sleep in. Any faults were rectified within the day (toilet stopped flushing, no TV control) and the TV was a Smart TV with hotel information present as well as TV channels, Apple TV and Netflix (accounts needed) and USB ports for other streaming opportunities. When it rained, there were issues around leakage, wet floors (slippy), flooding as the balconies all dripped down to the ones below. 3/5 Shuttle bus was always available but as they are all electric, they tend to fly around like an Uber Taxi and often without any lights so be wary of these as they do not use horns. One recommendation I would suggest is when you first use the shuttle, ask for a tour of the hotel as the bell boys gladly whisk you around and explain all the locations of interest. Animals - PLEASE DO NOT FEED THEM - this is due to dietary requirements of the animals and the escalating vet bills for the hotel for the food which some people feel obligated to feed for a picture and likes on social media. Coati - lovely animals but attend on mass and run riot, taking food when left out, drinks, bin diving (the bins were removed) and sniffling through bags for any food or anything they think is food. If it crinkles, it is likely to be taken out of the bag or with the bag. Coati climb trees to sleep so they are likely to take any items up a tree so be wary of this. Raccoon - tend to be seen on evenings within the room areas and again, bins seem to be the go to area along with any food left outside the rooms. Monkeys - tend to be around the theatre in the morning or pool 1, as they move to the theatre. Wonderful to see but again, feeding is an issue for those social media likes. They tend to sit out of the way but are encouraged to get food. Cats - several around the mood bars including kittens. Snakes - not seen any but aware several were captured on camera whilst there including the infamous boa constrictor Iguana - lazy and large. Tend to move when approached but they tended to bask in the sun. Agouti - tend to be at the periphery of the jungle and very shy Snorkelling - went several times but the water was 'rough' so limited view. Ask concierge for best areas as there are images taken whilst there of clear locations. Trips - did not visit anywhere as cannot get on or off coaches / minibus
