Fantastic time at this hotel

TeresaOntarioCanada (Mississauga Ontario Canada) on Feb 09, 2024

We enjoyed a 10 day stay recently with another couple, and had a fantastic time. The food was pretty good, as was the service. Our favourite restaurants were in order: La marina (seafood), Under the Sea (seafood as well), El Rancho (steakhouse), La Geisha (japanese), el Tapatio (Mexican), L’etoile (French). The buffet at the Lindo was also very good, lots of choices, and the desserts were really tasty, including the ice cream. There’s also an ice cream counter on top of the main pool’s swim-up bar, which my friend and I would visit daily - my favourite was the coconut and the vanilla was very good too. We loved the little extras here like the wave pool, lazy river and water slides (hey, you’re never too old to enjoy these things!). The beach was pretty rough the first few days, so most everyone was at the pools, so it was a challenge to find loungers there, but we could find loungers at the beach. Then when the ocean became calm, the opposite happened, and it was hard to find loungers at the beach, but there were plenty at the pools. We watched a few of the shows at the lindo theatre, we really enjoyed only one of these shows - the Four on the floor it was called. The others were mediocre at best. There was also a guitarist some nights at the kukulkan lobby which wasn’t too bad. There was a fire show on the beach one night, and that was exceptional. The hotel has an app that they want u to download and use to keep abreast of activities and restaurant info such as open and closing times, and you can even make restaurant reservations. We were able to book Under the Sea this way. You can also do this through any of the concierges that have desks on the first floor of each building. We did that the morning after our arrival, and had no problem getting reservations for the restaurants we wanted, but u could only make them 5 days out, so had to return to make reservations for the second half of our stay. The app wasn’t always accurate though, and often would freeze up and you’d have to shut your phone off and turn it on again to get it to work again, so it definitely needs some work. The drinks were overall good, but consistency was lacking between the various bars, so it really depended on the bartender. As guests of the Paraiso Maya suites, you have access to all the other resorts in the Iberostar complex save the Grand Paraiso. We did venture to these other resorts (Del Mar, Lindo, Beach), and their grounds are beautiful as well, but felt that the stretch of beach at the maya suites was the best with beautiful white sand and fewer rocks in the water. Food options were also more extensive at the maya suites. We definitely thought that the added cost over the other hotels was worth it. Our room was very comfortable, temperature perfect for sleeping, bed was comfortable too, mini-fridge stocked, safe worked fine for our stay. Would definitely consider returning to this resort..

Girls trip

Kellie D (Avondale, Pennsylvania) on Feb 09, 2024

Let me first start with the preface that I don't need fancy accommodations, just a clean and friendly. With that being said, the resort is very dated (ex: exterior painting of buildings was faded, bathroom had broken handles and shower tile was deteriorating) but room and grounds were clean. We were in building #63 room #6374 which was at the end of the hall facing the pool area. The balcony wrapped around to the side which allowed extra space which was a plus. The desk representative told me that was the best room in the resort- Maybe he says that to everyone checking in!? We arrived 2/2/24 and departed 2/6/24 for a long weekend for a girls weekend. If you do not make reservations for restaurant the day of check-in, you will most likely not to be able to be accommodated. We ate at the buffet for dinner, The Italian restaurant Trattoria Olivetti for dinner and lunch which was very good. We decided to try the I'Iluzio (spelling?) show that included dinner for an additional cost, but we felt the show was not worth the expense ($125.00 per person plus tax) they do however offer show only option. We had resort credit that we were told could be used towards the cost when we booked the show but upon check-out, we were informed that was not the case so that was a bummer. We had no trouble finding a chair in the pool area, but everyone had chairs "saved". Usually, at other resorts staff were offering beverage service and this was not the case here. Not a deal breaker by any means just have to go to the bar area. They do not serve bottled water at all; you need to purchase that in the gift shop. Speaking of gift shop, I recommend not buying anything there except for an emergency personal item. I purchased a normal size bag of potato chips at a whopping $26.00!! Yes, you read that correctly, that was on me- lesson learned the hard way! The beach area was beautiful and there was a bar and food area (nachos, fries, burgers, wraps) I did not spend much time on the beach due to the high winds and sand blowing. The pool area does have a waterslide, lazy river and wave pool that I'm sure was a plus for families with small children. Pools were essentially empty. the weather was warm but overcast and with the breeze, I did not use the pools either. In the end, this hotel served its purpose for the type of trip, but I would probably not stay here again. It was an extremely large resort that was hard to navigate at first and a good walk to the reception area and some restaurants which is not a problem for me but for others it is something to consider. I have never stayed at an Iberostar resort before mostly Secrets and Dreams and I will be staying with the Dreams and Secrets in future travels.
