Do better

We have stayed at Bahía Príncipe Sian Kaan twice and Akumal about 8 times so we are not new to this resort. We have experienced its decline over the last several years. Positives- they have a great golf course and staying at Sian Kaan is more convenient access to the course, we like that Sian Kaan is located by the homes and Condos which gave us lots of area to walk daily in the neighborhoods, the food at the restaurants was good and staff through complex were pleasant. Negatives-We had a ground floor room with cockroaches which we reported each day for the first 3 days of our stay which they sent someone to treat the room. Regardless they were there and it was stressful knowing that they could be in our belongings and highjacking home with us (we are still not unpacked to avoid bringing them into our home). Getting a restaurant reservation was next to impossible unless you want to eat at 9:30 pm. In all the years of coming to this resort we have never been informed that reservations could be made in the app prior to arriving. We spent the week constantly checking the app in hopes of a cancellation- our diligence paid off and we eventually got some reservations but shouldn’t have had to spend so much effort on our vacation just to have a nice dinner. We don’t have any issue with the buffet food but only ate breakfast at Sian Kaan. Lunch and dinner were always at Akumal due to larger, more variety but did notice many items mislabeled- it was a game of guess what you are eating. Akumal snack bar by the pool now has very limited buffet and now you have to order from a kiosk- very poor system- if I want a slice of pizza I need to order a whole pizza. Snack bar should be about convenience. In the past servers were poolside constantly with peanuts, fruit kabobs and drinks, now you are lucky someone offers you a drink. We did not use pool at Sian Kaan, they are small and gave us a geriatric vibe. We have always appreciated the trolley system but this trip when your trolley shows up and those people waiting load- the driver stands around while everyone is dying from the heat; let’s move it along, another trolley is coming for the next people! The seaweed is the worst we ever seen and the smell is terrible. The towel system needs some work. Front desk told us we need to accountable to our towels or will be charged, but if you go to a towel stand they tell you just to drop your wet towel in the bin- we had to be sure that we traded for dry (which was pain to lug them back and forth between complexes). Other times a towel stand would ask for room #, name, how many towels and enter something on an iPad. Whatever the actual process is no two staff were on the same page. Sian Kaan needs a theatre; there are too many view obstructions and limited seating to enjoy a show there. I could go on and on but overall to sum it up: What use to be my “ happy place”;We do not plan to return.
Excellent, again

Another great stay at Sian Kaan. We were greeted by really friendly, efficient Eldrik from Guest Experience Team who went above and beyond to ensure we were welcomed and that a discrepancy with our Loyalty Points was resolved quickly. Our stay was enhanced by the service and dedication provided by Isabel from Guest Experiences who worked really hard to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as possible. Staff in the buffet restaurant are great with special mention to Faustino and Susana. We will definitely be returning back to our 'home in the sun'
