We stayed at the Grand Principe Tulum Resort but we took a bus to Sian Ka'an Resort and ate at the Yal'ku Restauran. The food and service was great and our waitor Daniel was THE BEST. Super attentive and friendly! Very memorable evening, would definitely go again!!!
Definitely not 5 Star and not Luxury
Jul 05, 2022
Having recently arrived home from this hotel I felt I had to write a review which is something I have never had to do but I really feel the need to.
There is a review on here regarding the film crew, they are still in the hotel however we didn’t find this an issue.
We booked the 5 star and the luxury that TUI advertise this hotel as, but I can assure you that it is neither. When we had booked a Junior Suite, however the day after we changed our minds and updated to the Superior Junior Suite at an extra cost which we paid. We arrived at reception to be informed we had been upgraded, now this is normally a good thing but when we got to the room, we realised that we had not been upgraded but downgraded and we were in a Junior Suite. Having realised we went back to reception to question why this had happened and requested to have the room we had booked and paid for. It then became apparent why they tried to deceive us by telling us that we had been upgraded is that all they Superior Junior Suites were taken. The room they gave us was described as a garden room with an outside jacuzzi. The issue with this room and the outside area was that the outside area was a no-go area due to the mosquitos. As soon as you went outside you were inundated with them due to this, we didn’t use patio area all, plus due to the trees there was very little sun was able to get through and this also made the room very dark. If they managed the vegetation better it would transform the hotel as you can not see your rooms for the heavy vegetation and would make it look cleaner, lighter and more inviting.
Having visited the other complexes on this site it appears that the Sian khan has been left behind after the pandemic with maintenance, as our room was is some desperate need of a good lick of paint and some new furniture, curtains and blinds which was damp and broken.
The food in the main restaurant and specialist restaurants I have to say were average. The staff were all friendly and attentive and worked very hard and long hours.
One disturbing incident was that on one day you could clearly hear a group of people trying to score drugs round the pool and this was being facilitated by a small section of the hotel staff. This is not what I want to hear or see when I am on holiday. There were numerous occasions when walking to different areas around the hotel/grounds that we could also smell drugs being smoked.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel. Please do not get sucked in by its 5-star rating as it is not a correct rating at this moment in time.
