An Enjoyable Vacation!
fitlady (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) on Jul 03, 2022
This is my 3rd visit to El Cid and my first time at the Ventus section of the resort. I visited with my husband, daughter and her boyfriend and had a wonderful time. After staying here in the past and reading the reviews, I really had little surprises about what to expect. I know the beach has a ton of seaweed and dinners are late so I went knowing that. If you do your research ahead of time and see what people say about the resort, then I don't understand why one would book there and complain about it. Here is my 2 cents. Grounds: The resort is beautifully manicured and maintained. We loved strolling through all the lovely pathways. We enjoy walking, but if one is unable, there are golf carts that will pick you up and drive you to wherever you need to be. Rooms: The rooms are spacious, clean and have gorgeous ocean views. It was well stocked, but if we needed something we asked housekeeping or room service. I recommend bringing your own water bottles to fill up at the bars. Room service will bring you water bottles if necessary, but having your own really saves on waste. I'm happy to say the resort has cut back on disposable plastic. Pools and Beach: You have your pick. Since we were 4 adults, our favorites were 2 of the adults only pools. The rooftop at Ventus Ha felt luxurious and never crowded while we were there. It felt like a hidden gem. Our other favorite was the infinity pool in front of Ventus for beautiful ocean views. The seaweed smell can get stinky at times, but it comes and goes. The servers work their butts off getting everyone drinks and trying to keep everyone satisfied. We kayaked off the beach and as many others have said it is not the prettiest beach, but I'm good with ocean view. Restaurants: I'm going to give everyone a little tip. You can only book 2 restaurants per day per room, so the first 2 days will be difficult to get anything before 9:30 if you arrive at the hotel in the later part of the day as we did. Since we had no children with us we were ok with eating late, however if you have a late reservation anywhere but KOBO, just go early and see if something opens up. We did that every time we had a late reservation and every time they were able to seat us. KOBO can't do it because it's Hibachi style and seating is very limited, but every place else was not a problem. When you get up for breakfast, go make your next 2 reservations. Since we has 2 rooms, we were able to do 2 for each room so we were able to to book 4 nights at a time. I also have to mention Dolores Mercado was excellent for lunch. My favorite was Aromas which had the longest hours. You can get ice cream at all hours of day and night. I especially loved the Mocha Lattes! Entertainment: There are lots to do around the 3 resorts in the evening. Besides the nightly shows, the lobby bar at El Cid was alway buzzing with activity, Casino night at Ventus was great and The night club in the Ventus lobby was fun for the adults as well. During the day my husband and I did a group bike trip to town which was also a good time. Staff: Everyone works hard. We noticed a little politeness and patience with language barriers can go a long way. We never had a problem with getting help anywhere on the resort.

They need to have more restaurants that are open at better times. It’s hard to explain to a starving 3 year old that they have to wait to eat because there are no restaurants open to feed them. They need a buffet that’s open all the time so we have that option to eat whenever we want, not having to make dinner reservations every night.
