Losing Benefits at El Cid
Tammy J on Sep 02, 2024
We have been going to Ventus for years now and we've always enjoyed it. Several people on the staff treat us like family and know us by name. We always enjoy the resort and one of the highlights has been hydrotherapy at the spa. In the past, you would get a short massage at the end of the hydrotherapy complementary. It was like a short face and head massage, but a very nice ending to the hydrotherapy and would sometimes be a warm-up to the body massage. If you had purchased one of those now they charge you for that short massage and it is totally not worth it to pay for that short massage. I guess it depends on who you happen to get for the Massage but we feel like it was a big rip off. As El Cid VIP members, we feel like we are slowly watching as our benefits decline over the years more complementary stuff gets taken away each visit. We frequently vacation there in September and October, and during those times they will close some of the platinum lounges saying there's not enough people at the resort to have them all open. This is a major inconvenience because a lot of times we will just eat a sandwich from the platinum lounge instead of going to a restaurant for lunch (Macondo pool, "endless pool"). Also, when do they plan on removing those jetties as LC does not have the nice crystal blue water in front of the resort like other resorts. During our last visit, we actually walked up the beach to the next resort and they do have the Crystal blue waters, without all the seaweed issue being trapped between the jetties like at El Cid with that ungodly smell. Also, they do have tastings throughout the week at 6 PM. Why are all the tastings consistently at the dinner hour which forces us to have a later dinner and possibly miss the shows? We like to eat dinner at six so that we can enjoy seeing the shows and then go dancing to the bands. The tastings need to be moved to 4 PM or so. The wine tasting outside the French restaurant is a horrible place to have it as golf carts are always passing by and Willie never uses a microphone so it's so hard to hear him over the noise of people walking by and the constant golf carts going by. Also, it usually takes over an hour to check in the resort. They've known for months that I'm coming and I don't understand why it takes so long. We are VIP members (millionaires club) And they know exactly when our flight landed, so I'm not sure what the holdup is. Then after checking in, the concierge knows exactly how many people are arriving and should have all the free stuff ready and waiting. You should never have to come back for anything. If he doesn't have it ready, he should have it delivered to the room. These trips back to the lobby are ridiculous. Typically we've had very little sleep prior to arriving at El Cid and we want to get on with our vacation instead of waiting around for hours to get all of this resolved and by now we're getting tired and hangry.
Beautiful

Resort is absolutely beautiful but if you are going for the beach this is not the place for you. Despite there efforts there is a lot of seaweed and rocks. Food was amazing. Got to go to all the restaurants and they were all delicious. They also have a coffee shop with deserts and sandwiches all day. Service was amazing from the front desk to the restaurants to housekeeping. The grounds are immaculate with beautiful greenery and flowers everywhere. Infinity pool for adults only was breathtaking. Bar staff was always on cue. Thank you to all the amazing servers. We also spent a day in Tullum snorkeling turtle watching and we did the caves we loved it. Highly recommend. I would recommend the resort over and over again. We will be back. Thank you for everything. Tina

Wonderful Family Vacation

This place was wonderful. The staff is so hard working and kind. They cared about our happiness and were so fun at activities and meals. The food selection was decent and we didn't have any issues making reservations during our stay. We went with a 3, 10, and 16 year old and they all had a great time. The three resort options are great to break up the day, and a nice variety of pools and food options, along with a water slide, jump cliff, and baby pools. We stayed at Ventus, but all the resorts are nice in their own way. The beach wasn't the cleanest but it likely is just the time of year. It was still beautiful and had many photo worthy spots. The staff didn't pressure us to do any extras, but they offered options. No one pressured for tips, as other reviews stated. There are signs all over for the different wildlife you may see, and so much care goes into making every day nice for the guests. There were shows at night for the whole family. They even made our son a cake for his birthday, which was waiting at our room. There are people working day and night to maintain the property. My heart is sad to be leaving. I highly recommend this resort and hope to return again soon. Thank you for the beautiful trip El Cid! We will miss it here!
