Don't Bother

Alloted a most depressing gloomy room. Mobile air con unit with outlet out through window which was secured by duct tape. On Ground floor right next to swimming pool and social area. So, net curtains needed to be drawn for privacy. Dark broken furniture. Completely overpriced for stay. Other rooms overlooked train line with local trolleys and Amtrak noise. There is another Residences Inn nearby, which on reflection we should have booked.
Lots of problems

I stayed here for five nights on business. First the positives - The location is close to the airport, gaslamp district, embarcadero, and downtown. That's about it. Now the negatives - The air conditioner in my room didn't work. My room faced the afternoon sun and got warm in the afternoon. Maintenance guy couldn't fix it but he was kind enough to bring in a small portable unit, which made things tolerable. The internet did not work. I kept getting kicked off. Sometimes I could get a connection but it wouldn't last for more than 5 minutes. My work computer could never make a connection. I finally gave up and used my phone as a hotspot. When you check in, they give you a piece of paper with a number to call if you have connection problems, but I knew they wouldn't be able to help so I didn't bother calling. I think they use the lowest cost service they can find, and it shows. I never did get an electronic copy of my invoice. And I never did receive my Marriott Bonvoy points. So I have to submit a claim with Marriott. Little things - $40 a day for parking in the little outdoor lot is pretty steep. Elevator was slow. Rooms are dated and tired. Marriott continues to use shampoo and soap dispensers that are impossible to read in the shower without glasses. There have been lots of complaints about this but corporate Marriott continues this idiocy. However, this isn't this hotel's fault. Overall, this hotel did nothing special.
Amazing Stay! Perfect for Families with pets! Free Breakfast! Superb location.

This is our 3rd visit to this beautiful hotel. I was helped by front reception Salvador who was so helpful for me as a single mom travelling for the first time with my young daughters. They even have a kids treasure box!!! The staff in the kitchen work so hard and make every effort to service our hungry families for morning breakfast. I stayed here with my daughters in March 2024 and convinced my sister to choose this hotel as a return in for 4th of July. My family was impressed with the sizeable rooms, were super happy with the convenience of a full kitchen, and breakfast provided daily. The pool is heated with pool toys, fire pit, BBQ pit and games in patio. The location is superb! 2 blocks to Little Italy where it smells like garlic. Between upscale restaurant/lounges, Italian restaurants and much more. Also, the metro is a block from hotel which is a quick ride into old town or gas lamp. Across PCH is Maritime Museum and Liberty Park. My kids really enjoy the pedi cabs at night too. Mission Beach is just 7 miles away. It's nice to enjoy a family vacay in SD without spending so much on hotel/food thanks to everything this place has to offer. We will definitely return here as it is our home away from home during our staycation in SD. Please stay here with your fam, you won't regret it!
Great Location, Price and Access to Gas Lamp/Downtown/Waterfront/Airport

There are a few great Marriott properties in Downtown/Gaslamp San Diego and this is one of them. Located on the edge of Little Italy and a Red Line Train stop a block away, this property has a good view of the waterfront as well as within easy walking distance of the waterfront and Gas Lamp district as well. The front desk staff person Candace was an amazing help on recommending local places to eat and the best way to pop down to the border without a car for a day trip into Tijuana. Rooms are pretty much standard 'Residence Inn" style with many rooms having small stand only balconies. There's a pool and fire pit as well. A short hop from the airport and centrally located for Uber trips or rental car access to the further reaches of the area - I strongly recommend this property. It's often a lot less expensive than the hotels closer to the Gas Lamp but just as good!
Poorly Maintained. Spend $20 more to stay somewhere decent.

My room had a lot of maintenance and housekeeping issues which I brought to the attention of the front desk who assured me they would address them but never addressed any of them. The room I stayed in had a dirty shower curtain, wet carpet due to a leaking balcony door, the private balcony had not been cleaned and had the prior guests cigarette butts all over it, and an air filter that had not been changed in years.
