Girls trip

Del8440 (Windsor, Connecticut) on Sep 07, 2023

I rated this resort a 5 because the rooms were very clean , the property was well maintained.. the hotel housekeeping staff very professional. the reception staff needs additional training. The only restaurant on site, the Hemingway staff was rude. We waited 2hrs after ordering our food to receive it.

Memorable experience - Hope to go back (slightly lengthy review)

Suharsh (Chicago, Illinois) on Aug 26, 2023

Just came back from a 6 nights / 7 days trip to Turks & Caicos and stay at The Sands at Grace Bay. We (family of 3) booked a 1-bedroom suite with partial ocean view. We had a special needs child and the entire staff, from reception, the manager, conceirge staff and the beach staff .. everyone helped us and made it a memorable trip. Our suite had kitchen, which we booked owing to some dietary restrictions. But the onsite Hemingway restaurant is great to go to. I have posted some pictures of the suite, check them out. The rooms were spacious enough and we had 1.5 bath. The balcony is the salient point of The Sands. Ours was about 350 sq ft! Also the balconies have a screen mesh and that blocks bugs or insects getting in. We almost had morning breakfast always out and despite it being hot because of the cool breeze one could sleep on the lounges provided. For us, we had 2 full size lounge chairs and 2 smaller ones and a coffee table! Though the idea of screen mesh, seems to be trivial, we concluded that was a brilliant idea! If you go with extended family or friends or a larger group, some rooms are connected and that way you can have one Kitchen room and connect to a studio. They have 3 swimming pools and I believe they are heated .. we didn't use as God's swimming pool was more inviting for us. There are several amenities you might want to note because that could help you in packaging. - If you have kids, TV can't be avoided. Though we didn't browse through all channels, there were ample channels for kids - Disney, Cartoon Network etc. A minor tip is that channel 78-5 had live flight statuses. I know you can check on phone and get alerts as well but on last day 15 mins before leaving the room for check out I had turned it on to check if there was a delay. - They have bicycles that you can borrow and go around not just for leisure or exercise, but also for quick shopping. There are several restaurants near by about 8 - 10 mins of walking and shorter on bicycle. - At beach they have snorkel kits, kayaks, floating jackets, paddle board and hobie cats! They also have floats - tubes and other varieties that people leave back (we left a kite). They provide beach towels as well. - There were ample Palapos. Beach staff will setup chairs and umbrella if needed (do tip them). We did go a bit towards end of the season, so not sure if beach would be otherwise crowded. - There is a volley ball net on the beach. - The beach is just gorgeous, crystal clear water. Depending on sun intensity and clouds water is Turquoise, teal or bright blue! - There is shallow section of water so kids can enjoy. - The sand is white, soft and powdery. I have been to many beaches in the world and the sand at Grace Bay beach is white, soft and powdery. - Though we took bug sprays, there was no reason to use it. - One day there was a storm and the dark clouds on the beach and the rain was a great experience. - I would recommend going out every day to watch the Sunset as the Sun also takes dip into the ocean. It is a wonderful sight. Saying everyday because there will be days when Sun will be playing peek-a-boo behind the clouds. Also the breeze at that time is very calming. - Taxis are readily available at the front. - Ocean Dream Tour operates right from the beach - they have half & full day tours, snorkelling, sunset tours and more. They re competitively priced and the best part is they pickup / drop off right by the beach, so you don't have to take a shuttle to somewhere else! Everything in T&C is expensive - be it Taxis (charges are per person), restaurants, liquor, groceries etc .. but it is all worth it. If you are on a budget or have dietary restrictions, there is the Graceway supermarket about 8 - 10 mins walk or about $6/person - in our case we took a taxi and got some groceries. Liquor was certainly expensive - Corona Light was about 48$/12 bottles. Local made Rum is something that I would recommend. I got Don Martn's Passion fruit Rum Punch. We bought a few mangoes and they were sweet. Consider almost everything to be 2 to 4x expensive. We bought bottled water (US brands) and local water in gallon jugs at the Gracebay store. I found that the local water jugs had a taste that I didn't like. So if you are senstive like me, you might want to stick to some name brands for water. At the Gracebay grocery store, they have Extra Large frozen pizza for $16. Assuming you have the kitchen suite, add some toppings - tomatoes, olives, pepper, onion and garlic slices and you will have a family meal in 30 minutes! Whene we left we had planned to take the taxis from airport to The Sands (14$/person) and then rent a mid-size car (about 50$/day). I was confident that I would be able to drive on the left side (US being the right side), however during the ride from airport to hotel in the taxi, we noticed a crash and the guess was probably a tourist who went to the wrong side. So we never rented a car and decided to play safe and just took taxis. Taxis have fixed charges so you don't have to worry about getting overcharged. If budget permits, we will certainly go back to Turks and I do not intend to research for other resorts as this was just perfect for our needs.
