I will start this review with the fact that I've been to Cuba before so I realized that there would be certain limitations. We had an amazing time but I also believe that Sunwing should be more upfront about the conditions that people will be coming into. The entire country is having some massive shortages so I anticipated that they may be out of certain things. FOOD AND DRINKS: They ran out of rum after our 4th day which seemed kind of strange but they had plenty of other options. If you are a beer drinker they have draft but its not the good Crystal brand. Also no liquor in your room fridge. They also didnt have any blended drinks until the last 2 days that were there. The breakfast had eggs and bacon on two out of the 7 days and other than that it was not overly good. The lunch and dinner buffets consisted of mostly rice and pasta dishes and also had chicken and or fish most of the time, although it was often not overly hot.. If you are a picky eater I would suggest looking into the ROC plus option as it lets you use the Italian restaurant for both breakfast and lunch and they have really good meals at lunch. The ala carte restaurants also had some decent options but they are very small and book up quickly. The "snack bar" consisted only of cheese or hot dog sandwiches and occasionally a pasta salad...it was the most disappointing food options. Also after the dinner buffet closes at 10PM that is the last chance to get anything to eat. We never went hungry but by the end of the 7 days the lack of food diversity was beginning to become an issue but this seemed to be the same issue that everyone in the airport said about all the other resorts they stayed at....at least 6 couples actually left theirs and relocated to other resorts including ours. Make sure you bring snacks if you want something for late at night or just to have during the day(we had a few instant noodle cups for the kids which was very handy) ROOMS: The rooms were fantastic with comfortable beds and AC that kept the room a nice temperature. It had a balcony that overlooked the pool which was very nice as well. We had fresh towels and our rooms was cleaned daily. The inroom safe didn't look secure and we didn't use it at all. POOL: Wonderful pool with plenty of lounge chairs and music all day long. The resort wasn't very busy so there was no clear division between and adult and kids side but it is one big pool. Very clean and we spent a large portion of our trip sitting by the pool. BARS: Most of the bars made pretty decent drinks but each of them would run out of certain things so you had to walk to other ones if you wanted something specific. We found the bar going down to the beach had the most consistent selection. The hotel lobby bar is the only one open 24/7. Fernando was our favorite. BEACH: 100% the nicest thing in the entire trip. Beautiful water and white sandy beaches. When its not too windy it was really nice to take the paddle boats and kayaks out and was included in the all inclusive. Even if it was windy is was still nice to swim in the waves. Not too many people trying to sell things there as well. RESORT: VERY clean. We never saw any bugs and the grounds crew was constantly working to keep everything very tidy. It's not an overly large resort but there is a fair bit of walking so if you have mobility issues this may not be the place for you. Please do go and play on the mini golf course as its actually very fun and the man that is working there is very friendly. It is important to bring bug spray tho...we didn't see many mosquitoes or flies but a few of us did get bitten pretty good and they were very itchy so a itch cream would be a good idea just in case. Also the free shuttle to downtown Varadero was nice but be aware that the main market is a little further down than where the bus drops you off. Another tip would be to bring hand sanitizer as they often had no soap in the washrooms. If you are looking for nightlife they had a disco but it wasnt open any days we were there PEOPLE: The Cuban people are really struggling but they try not to show it. As long as you are friendly to them you will get great service. We saw a lot of people being very rude to the staff which was quite sad. We also learned that basic things like pens/pencils/notepad(all things you can get at the dollar store) were in high demand and we brought a bunch of them and they seemed to appreciate that as much or more than a cash tip. PLANE: We booked with sunwing and the plane was very dissapointing....no inflight entertainment, no plug ins and no hot water! Its a long flight so make sure you have some food and your electronics are fully charged if you are also on a sunwing flight. There is no need to change your money into USD as everywhere we went took Canadian money....but if you are going to tip with loonies and toonies just make sure u change it before you leave because the coins are no good to the Cubans. For the price that we paid this was an unbeatable vacation and I would fully recommend this resort

Great service great people and nice beach good drinks and coffee, interesting entertainment. Nice room service. Despaigne is super nice. I recommend this hotel because of the nice beach and nice people. You should visit this resort, I would recommend it.
Cold food. Bad customer service. Do your research.

1. I am not a picky person by far, but I am pretty sure they pay or bribe people to give great reviews on here. Yes, there's a food shortage. But the staff were either sleeping on the beach, drinking beer from the taps, passing you by or miserable. Daniel at the bar at the market was the only staff that didn't make me feel like I was asking too much just for a drink. Unless you're willing to fork out tons of tips non stop, they won't smile and roll their eyes at you. Our son lost his towel, we were fine paying, but the staff made us feel horrible for it. 2. They hoard food for the days there's more people. Other days they put out the same food, cold for days. I used the toaster oven to warm up food to be able to eat it. 3. We were given hand towels not normal towels for showering. They also didn't supply us with new hand soap, shampoo, lotions all week. 4. A la cart (I saw one of the facebook reviewers get extra food to post good things of this resort). Book many in advance because this is the only days you get warm food. 5. Only about 3-4 max drink choices, no slushies. Coffee was only offered some days. 6. The beach saved our trip. Beyond gorgeous. Daniel the mojito guy between the markets saved us as well for a good drink. 7. Go on the catamaran and jeep safari for warm good food and good drinks to get you through the week. Buy food to bring back to resort. 8. Go when there's lots of people, or everything will be closed or extremely downsized. 9. No to limited entertainment. I won't be coming back to this hotel. This is the first bad review I've ever done. I understand there's a shortage here, but the customer service is disheartening.
