Very bitter experience

Yes this hotel is very nice and the beach is marvelous, also the staff in the service areas are lovely. However, I still cannot believe that while I was at the beach the security staff opened the safe box at the request of my cuban companion who took all my money and some of my personal things. This action is totally unprecedented in any hotel! Opening a safety box in the absence of the person that paid the reservation is highly suspicious. In summary what could have been a great stay resulted in a nightmare for me!
Great Vacation.

We stayed at Melia Varadero from April 26 to May 3rd. We stayed on the Level. One of the best things we found was the staff . Top notch customer service. I can understand why they have so many repeat guests. Everyone wants to feel special, and they do a good job at making people feel welcome. The food was also a pleasant surprise because we went with no expectations. It was really good. The good thing about being on the level is that you could go to the Al carte every night if you want to. Our towels were changed twice a day, and our beach towels were picked up nightly and replaced with new ones. Our cleaning girls were amazing, especially with their towel art. We camped out a lot at the pool because it was so close to the beach, washrooms, snacks, drinks, ice cream truck, main building, and restaurants. If you needed shade, somebody was there to offer you an umbrella. The pool needs a little work, but they are working on renovations at the hotel. I am sure it's on the list. The beach was the most beautiful turquoise color, and the water was like bath water. We would have liked it if we could have walked further, but we were able to walk both sides daily. we enjoy walking the beach, so we always look for a nice beach. The grounds are well kept. We are early birds, so it was nothing to see somebody out working on the grounds even before the sun came up. We did one excursion. We had the pleasure of driving in a 1957 Chevy Bel Air to Havana and back. We used We You Travel Cuba. Our guide, Ramiro, was very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. We have done the tour to Havana before on the bus, but found it much better with a personal guide, we got to see a lot more, and we learned a lot more about cuba. Our driver Edel was an excellent driver, and at no time did we not feel safe. The only disappointment was lunch. First of all, Edel and Ramiro were not able to eat with us, and we felt really bad about that. I'm not sure if it's part of the policy or not. Second, we were charged 120 canadian dollars for two pizzas and two water. Which was so overpriced. Honestly, the pizza was not great. We have been told it like that in Havana. The prices are high. So we think it may be better to eat on the outskirts of the city. It's well worth going in a classic car, but please be prepared to pay a lot for lunch. We were lucky we just had enough cash with us because we did not bring any plastic with us. The company itself We You Travel Cuba was very professional when booking and during our trip. We would 100% return to Melia. Don't hesitate to book here. We truly enjoyed our stay, and so will you.! Hope to return.
