Marseille restaurant was fantastic awesome food and very attentive service. All people there deserve high praise. Just a few. Yirenia Yaneis,Liane and Milenis They all provided a very welcoming atmosphere. Extremely nice people, would certainly recommend interacting with them.
This review hurts my heart!

Having been to Cuba many times and loving it, the booking in October from the 13-23rd was done with such excitement. After some research, we selected Paradisus Princesa Del Mar. We always take the upgraded package of Royal Service as it's a vacation and like to spoil ourselves a bit after realizing all we do is work. The resort itself has such great potential. It's a beautiful resort. We landed in Varadero and got to the resort around 11pm. We checked in at the regular lobby as the Royal Service reception was closed by this time. During the check-in, the staff member advised that the buffet was closed until Wednesday October 16. We thought no problem as we have access to the Royal Service area so no issue. We stayed in room 7160, nice enough room. Funny part, coffee machine present, coffee mugs and yet no coffee. There was no coffee present until about October 18 or 19th. The day after we got there we went for breakfast. To say we were shocked is the biggest understatement on this planet. The buffet was almost half empty. The variety of food, many versions of squash and plantain. There was just no food. We had to rely on this buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The theme was the same for all three. Thankfully they did have a lady doing fresh eggs. My brother-in-law asked one of the staff at one point if they had any bacon or anything. The staff member actually went into the kitchen and got some bacon for us. Same type of situation another day with bread..absolutely no bread placed in the buffet area for lunch. Again, my brother-in-law spoke with a staff member and he walked into the kitchen and placed 5 small breads on a plate for us. Again, it appears there was food in the back but for some reason, not being placed for guests. Cost cutting measures as the resort was at low capacity of guests - my guess. This is fine but guests should be made aware of this...FULL DISCLOSURE. This issue had nothing to do with the storms that were taking place. This issue was on the resort itself. When the main buffet reopened as a bit more guests arrived, we were excited to see the food. Same thing. Buffet was half empty, serving the same as the Royal Service buffet. I mean why bother. We spent time in the Royal Service area for coffee, drinks etc and the number of people screaming to the reception staff..I was completely amazed. I have never seen anything like that. I thought what is happening. This is not the Cuba I have come to love. Issues of no water in the room, no hot water, room keys not working. Complete disaster. The only restaurant worth attending for any brave souls that decide to visit this resort. Sakura - I actually ate some good food. The other restaurants - don't bother. Felt like pasta with ketchup sauce. Food wise, due to the lack/variety, actually lost weight. Stayed mainly on eggs. If that was not bad enough, the most disappointing was on our final few days. Due to the rain, I'm guessing the sewage system got flooded. Let's just say it made it back up through our shower. I woke up to a certain smell. With no AC, you can imagine the smell. I opened the shower door and yes, the water was brown. Pic attached. The whole bathroom floor and hall were flooded. The smell, we had to leave the room. I guess with the number of complaints the reception was receiving, they stated "nothing we can do". Eventually with words from my brother-in-law they let us stay in another room. My sister and my brother-in-law were staying beside us in room 7161. Also flooded. The most ironic part, when they let us stay in room 7162, a comment was made "please stay in this room, it never floods. Where the 2 rooms you were staying tend to flood." And the resort still books these rooms to guests. Again please understand this is Royal Service. There were some other issues room cards not working, some interesting staff but at the end of this you get the picture. When we checked out, usually the staff member doing the check out says a few words "thank you for staying with us, etc". This lady took the cards, did not say a word to us. Just a grin on her face. That pretty much summed up the trip. This review breaks my heart as in all my travels, this is the first bad review I have had to write. We love Cuba. We are fortunate enough to be able to travel and always upgrade to really enjoy the vacation. We give back to staff with large tips. At every opportunity, we tip min of $3-5 U.S. each time. At every single request "Here you go, this is for you". I always leave most of my clothes to staff. In this case the entertainment staff - Anileysi (peluda), Kevin, Carlos, Edwar, Daniel, Marlen, Lucia, Abel, Niosbel and Vladimir. This group was the saving grace for this resort. So a big thank you to all of you. In the end, this marks the end of our adventures to Cuba. It just left a really bad feeling. We have travelled many times to Cuba in October and have never experienced anything like this. Again, we understood certain things that were not the fault of the resort..wifi down, AC down. We were without AC in the room for about 5 days (I believe). To anyone that does venture, ask questions before you book. Ask for guest capacity during your stay. This will determine what resources/food will be available during your stay.
