Great time at Paradisus Princesa Del Mar!

Michelle P on Dec 07, 2024

Currently sitting in the airport on the way home from this resort, so leaving a review while everything is fresh in my mind for you all! Overall, great experience, mainly because of the amazing, friendly, and welcoming staff! Special shout out to the ladies at the Royal Service buffet and bar, Yessica, Nurlan and Taima. Always greeted with a smile, and always good eggs and omlettes from the grill (I'm sorry I can't recall the name of the fellow manning the grill every morning, but he was terrific as well)! Upgrading to the Royal Service is worth it for the separate breakfast and lunch buffet alone! Our concierge Eduardo took care of booking all our Ala Cartes and excursions as well, anything you need, just ask. Food at the buffets are limited in choice of sides/veggies, lots of corn, pumpkin, yucca though. Also fresh fruits, pineapple, guava and starfruit. There is also always a grill where they'll cook fresh fish, calamari, chicken or beef for you, so you can always find something you like. True the food isn't over seasoned, but they do have ketchup, mustard, steak sauce and salt and pepper in all the restaurants/buffets. There is hot sauce too, just have to ask for it, except in the Japanese restaurant (which is awesome), and in our 12 days, the only thing they ran out of that we saw was parmesan cheese, so don't believe the horror stories, just adjust your expectations a bit. The evening shows were decent, good entertainment staff, but tge funnest place to hang out is the piano bar. Jusmila is amazing and will make you the absolute best drinks, and her smile and energy are contagious! The singers and piano players are a fun bonus and they're great. The rooms are not 5 star by other country's standards, but they are clean (our housekeeper Indira ?? was absolutely fantastic and made our stay so great), and comfortable. Do let them know your bed preferences before you go. What else? Beach is beautiful, they do a great job cleaning it up, tons of chairs and palapas, no fighting for a spot to worry about. Excursions, do the snorkeling at the resort. They take you out in a small catamaran, and give you bread, and you see a TON of fish! Go to Havana. It's a full day, but go with May and Yeniel Cepero, +53 52386811, husband drives and wife is the guide. They have an itinerary planned, but also go where you want to see anything specific. May gives you all the history, and you're in your own classic car rather than a bus load of people. Not to be missed. Jeep safari IF you can drive a standard, it's a great way to see the country. You visit a farm, a cenote, a scenic overlook at Mantanzas, and it's a great experience. If you do this one though, come prepared with some goodies for the kids, because they line the route waving and smiling, hoping for something, and it's heartbreaking if you have nothing with you. The most sought after things were chocolate bars, chips (any kind of snacks really), advil and Tylenol, and then crayons, markers, coloring books and toys for the kids. Also, take the hop on, hop off bus to Varadero. It's $5 US, and there's a big tented market near the end of the main street. Just tell the driver where you're going and they'll tell you whete to get off. Oh, and when people say "bring toilet paper, there's none", they aren't talking about the resort, they're talking about the excursions. The bathrooms usually have no paper (or toilet seat), but there's an attendant who will give you t.p. outside the door for a tip. It's just another way for the people to earn a small income. That's all I can think of for now, but mostly just don't hesitate if you're thinking of going. Zero effect from any of the power outages or shortages on the resort or the excursions. Go, and Enjoy!!
