I was there with my wife the last week of August. Had a wonderful week. Everything was good and to our satisfaction. The beach is one of the best beaches I have been to. Lots of fruit variety and the food was good and we not feel lacking to anything despite the economic situation in Cuba. Osviel, Carla provided an excellent entertainment, stretching exercises and dancing lessons at the beach. I also did one one one Spanish lessons with both of them. The staff provided good service when and where you needed it. God bless the Cubans people for their efforts to make our vacation very pleasant.
Nice Smaller 16+ Resort

Stayed here for two weeks in June and mostly enjoyed it. Overall the hotel, common areas, rooms, and grounds are very well cleaned and kept appealing. Management & workers take pride in and work hard at ensuring this property meets ‘top drawer’ standard of maintenance. The 24 hour snack & bar, the ‘Double Play’ had the best, attentive, and friendliest servers/barmen/bar women and we spend much more enjoyable time there than at the Lobby Bar lounge. No shortage of wine or beer and good quality rum (ie Havana 7 yr old) was always available. Many specialty drinks were unavailable, as is soda water & tonic water = same as many Cuban resorts these days. A nice touch was that real fruit juices were mostly daily available at both bars. Espresso was consistently good at the Double Play. The dining room buffet was okay, mostly fairly well cleaned & organized, but sometimes the table staff were lacking in attending to our basic needs (ie water, utensils, salt requests). The buffet self serve area was well organized & clean but sometimes variety was a little lacking. I always found more than enough to eat but the variety of choices did not change much day after day for the 2 weeks we were there. A high point for me was the good selection of fresh fruit throughout our stay (mango, pineapple, papaya, melon) = excellent! Our experiences at the alacarte restaurants were nothing special, but the TexMex was the best that we had out of the three they were offered (Italian, International not so special). Yes the beach was great, beautiful, but no better no worse then most of the other resort hotel beaches I have been at in Varadero. A plus for me was that it was a reasonably close & easy walk to get down to the beach, one reason a prefer these smaller resorts. The pool was pretty decent, well maintained but not so great far someone like me who wants to do swim routines, laps and a good aquatic work out. The pool is mostly fairly shallow & not so conducive to full on swim routines. I made it work anyway. It was our first time here at the Sol Varadero. Have stayed at a few other location in Varadero. Likely will come back to this one if the stars align!
