Active Advisories
The final phase of the Family Pool deck replacement project has been postponed with plans to resume on May 10, 2024, and a new expected completion date of June 30, 2024. The work is being done in sections and access to the pool will remain open during the duration of the project. The Adult-Only Pool and hot tub will also remain open throughout the course of this project and will only be available to adults 18 years and older.
The scope of the work involved consists of demolition and tile setting, which may cause disruptive noise from time to time. The hotel will do everything possible to keep the disruptions to a minimum during this time. The hotel is taking all safety measures and precautions and will have affected areas blocked off, and float ropes placed in the pool to close off affected sections as work is ongoing.
On or about May 10, the hotel anticipates moving work into the Naupaka Restaurant area, with continued demolition and disruptive loud noise. At this time, Naupaka will be relocated to Meridia for lunch and Ikena Landing for dinner, and a satellite bar at the Adult Pool will be available to accommodate our guests for drinks only.
Access to Hapuna Beach, the Family Pool (partial), the Adult-Only Pool deck, and restaurant service will remain open and available for the duration of this project.

Perfect visit and getaway

I suggest disregarding the negative nellies who have reviewed the Westin Hapuna. Plain and simple it is the best resort on the west side of the island, especially if you are a beach lover. The only minor negative are restaurant options, but having the shuttle to the Mauna Lea opens up the options. The views from this hotel, along with the best beach in Hawaii, a very nice family pool and the adult pool are amazing! My only recommendation for the resort is to have more music entertainers that last beyond 9:00. Every employee we encountered was wonderful. We hope to return!
The good and not so good!

There are pros and cons on this resort you should know before booking! PROS: 1. Staff are very friendly, and check-in was a breeze. We were automatically upgraded to a premium room and housekeeping was lovely everyday. 2. Food at every restaurant was great. Meridia was a standout. (Skip breakfast, more on that in Cons!) 3. Daily cocktail specials were $10 and were always great 4. We have a food allergy and when we reached out about reservations, the concierge was amazing and so helpful. 5. The beach is a dream. On the big island it is so hard to find a beautiful beach and this one if the best on the island. Swimming was easy, no real waves to speak of and you can snorkel in the little reef. 6. Cocktail/Restaurant servers: So nice, so helpful. There was not one person who was not outstanding. CONS: 1. The very first night we were awoken to a slew of cockroaches in our room. YIKES! I have stayed in MANY tropical locations and have never had cockroaches in my room. We were on the 9th floor, so it felt very unnerving. They did move us to another room, but there was no real apology or remedy offered. 2. The beach staff is not dying to help. There was a ton of broken umbrellas and the snorkel equipment leaked badly. They were not in a hurry to repair or help. 3. Meridia - great food, but when you upsell me the fish special, tell me it is $80 when the risotto I was going to get is $40. Just tell me, I would have probably ordered it anyway. 4. The pool is SMALL. There are not a lot of chairs and that can leave you with no real options for the pool. They do allow people to reserve early in the morning, so get your chairs early if you want to be at the pool. The adult pool is way less crowded, so if you don't have kiddos, that is a great options. 5. Pool lighting. We went to the pool later in the evening (around 8:30pm-ish) most nights and it is completely empty, but very poorly lit, so it didn't feel super safe. 6. Breakfast buffet: skip it. I found it super overpriced for the quality. No really good fruit, and the eggs were runny and no good. Trust me, not worth it at all. We just went to the little coffee shop and there are better options that were not spendy. Overall I would stay here again, but I would also say that it is not quite as nice as the other Westins we have stayed in. If it is pools you are into, pick somewhere else. If it is beach...go forth and book, WORTH IT!
