I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation with this resort. I recommend the villa's. The perks are well worth it. Connie my concierge was amazing and met all my needs. For "off season" the resort was still lively yet not crowded. Can hardly wait to return. Adios amigos ??

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in Grand riviera princess during September 2019. Originally we had seen many bad reviews on the Facebook page before we left, however we made sure to not let it bother us. When we arrived after long hours of travelling, check in was quick which was good however we were not offered any drinks which i was told we should have been. When we arrived to the room i was quite dissapointed. The room was really outdated and not the cleanest, things such as stains on the bed sheets, marks on the mirror in the bathroom, and fallen apart furniture. This was annoying for us, due to being students we paid alot of money and were expecting alot more. Long story short we paid for an upgrade, total of 600$ which we were then allocated a swim out. No issues here, room was still outdated but clean. When we first stepped out onto the balcony there was a cigarette bud and a few empty cups. We decided to just move these away and not let it annoy us. Overall review below: Staff - Some staff were friendly such as the reception staff and cleaners however most were not, there was one guy who worked in the ice cream parlour and he looked so unhappy to be there. We felt that perhaps being a young couple that the staff didn't want to provide good service. (Perhaps due to thinking we would not tip) however this was not the case. Pool- the pool was amazing, so big. At times it was not clean, floating flies etc. However i am sure this is hard to keep on top of due to it being so large. I love to jump into a cold pool after sunbathing however the temperature of the pool was really warm so therefore not much cooling down. Having a swim out was nice, however people always sat on your steps or lounger which can be annoying. Restaurants- Honestly, the only food we liked was mama mia, however one night we received terrible service, it was as if the waiter was just ignoring us. I had to go order our drinks myself at the bar as the waiter had not brought them down. We also waited ages between meals therefore we walked out. The steakhouse, we were not a fan, the food was cold and just not nice. Cooking show was good, fondue was lovely, however small amount of food on your plate. Sports bar was lovely and staff were always so friendly. Regarding the buffets, i cant really complain the food was nice, pizza was amazing, and deserts were also amazing! Entertainment was ok however i felt like i kept seeing the same things? i think it was a weekly entertainment guide that rolled. We had seen reviews of theft also but we decided to ignore them. Our second last day i had noticed that my apple airpods had gone missing, i do not want to blame the hotel on this one, however i normally do not misplace anything. Regarding this matter the staff were very helpful however due to the item not being stored in the safe, there is nothing they can do. Overall, we would not be back. I expected mexico to be 5 star, however this hotel would be around a 3. The grounds are amazing, but the rooms need totally revamped. They are tired and worn out. The TV was one thing that stood out to me, it was so old!! I do believe due to being a young couple that we did not get the service we should have, perhaps due to tipping. In many cases we considering complaining but thought what is the point, it was already paid for.. I would not recommend this hotel for above reasons, all it needs is revamped rooms, friendlier staff and nicer a la carte restaurants.

We stayed at the Grand Riviera Princess for two weeks on a last minute booking. Overall we were impressed with the hotel and had a good holiday but there were a few issues that could easily be sorted out that would have significantly improved the overall experience. The impressive reception and lobby area is spotless and is where the lobby bar can also be found. The lower levels and adjoining areas house the main buffet, most of the A La Carte restaurants, a shop and several other facilities. Access to the rooms is along an external path or through the accommodation blocks via a walkway with numerous right angle twists and turns. Being able to access the room under cover when it is raining heavily is a real bonus! We had a rather grandly named Junior suite, in reality the lowest level of room, and it was more than adequate with an adjoining en suite shower room, balcony, a well stocked fridge, TV etc. all fairly typical of a modern All Inclusive room with a huge bed. The fly screen on the patio doors was a welcome feature. The air conditioning functioned well but was noisy and plugs in the shower room basins would have been appreciated. Mostly it was well serviced but the floor could have been swept or mopped more regularly. In general the food was very good especially in the buffet restaurants. There was a good variety of food, well presented and all very enjoyable. For breakfast and lunch we preferred the smaller buffet, the Snack Riviera towards the beach. It was light and airy and though smaller than the main buffet still offered a good and varied choice of food. The A La Carte restaurants varied in quality. The Japanese restaurant was a show in itself and the food was very enjoyable. The Oriental, Mexican and Italian were all mainly good but the steak restaurant much less so. That restaurant seems to have a poor reputation in the hotel. We also booked at the seafood restaurant, which costs an extra 325 Mexican pesos and it was, quite honestly, awful. To be fair our money was refunded without being asked for. Possibly they just had an 'off' night. Our main criticism was that in most, though not all, A La Cartes the food was served on cold plates and wasn’t hot to start with. We had to send our meals back on several occasions asking for them to be heated up. Vegetables were invariably served almost raw. Such basic things could easily be rectified with a little more attention. Throughout the hotel service standards were excellent. Everyone was very friendly and gave first class and attentive service. Entertainment was mixed. The evening shows were very good and the performers put a lot of effort into every show. They even served popcorn in the theatre – a nice touch. The after show entertainment was a different matter though. Most nights there was a group performing and, to make up for their lack of talent, the amplification was turned up to painful and, at times, dangerous levels, all this accompanied by synthesised heavy percussion drowning out the live artists. Likewise the noise at the fantasy pool (where most of the animation team’s activities were held) and the weekly beach party was excessively loud. We complained to the concierge about the excessive amplification and were promised that they would get back to us the following day – they did not. Failure to respond to complaints does seem to be a common problem. The hotel grounds were beautiful, well maintained and immaculate. The grass was wonderfully green and the trees and shrubs were beautiful. Paths were constantly kept swept and bleach used to keep them looking clean. Wildlife was abundant and interesting but after a while the cute creatures called Coati with their long tails pointing to the sky became a pest rather than a pleasure. They are protected and very numerous. They spend their days searching for food and constantly pester guests wherever food is being served outside. A pack of 20 or more very agile creatures can be very intimidating especially for families with young children. Anything left unattended for more than a few seconds becomes a target and it is essential that bags are carefully zipped up or they will be in them. Litter bins were targets and regularly had a coati inside searching for discarded food. Because they are a protected species there seems little that the hotel could do to solve this problem. Stupid guests feeding them in spite of the many notices asking that they not be fed exacerbates the problem. The beach itself is very good, lovely soft sand and with ample sunbeds and shade. However the sea is horrible. The water is very shallow, it is difficult to get to even chest deep and the water is a dirty brown colour with an unpleasant smell. I believe this is caused by dead algal blooms transported from Europe on ocean currents. Clearly the hotel cannot be blamed for this. The hotel does well in clearing the well known seaweed problem with workers raking and disposing of the seaweed throughout the day. So, in summary, the Riviera Princess is a lovely clean and beautiful hotel with wonderful staff but needs to address the cold food problem in the A La Carte restaurants, turn the noise of the ‘entertainment’ down to more comfortable and safe levels and to have a more responsive management. All these things could be solved so easily and it is frustrating that they are not attended to and rectified and because of them I can only give the hotel a 3 out of 5 rating. But, as I said, we had an enjoyable holiday.

I arrived early and couldn't check in until 3, I initially said out but then I found out the resort was pretty much empty so why did I have to wait so long. I was supposed to be on the Sunset side but when I got there they said that side was closed for renovations, I walked over there and saw people. They put me in a room without asking my smoking preference so I walked into a room that was very dated and smelled like an old ashtray, when I called the front desk they got an attitude like it was my fault and then I had to wait another 45 minutes. I ended up getting in my room my like 5pm. The staff is rude, the steak restaurant that you have to make reservations for brings your food old cold and when you say something the waiter just said oh yeah like that is how it's supposed to be. Worst birthday spent ever

Great place to vacation with your family!

We went on the first week of October, 2019. Had an amazing time as a family. Very friendly and caring staff, amazing food, clean resort and the beach area. I was expecting lots of weeds but there were barely any. The water was not cristal clear but my 8 year old would not wants to leave. We really loved buffet food and service. Nobody is expecting from you to tip but they very much appreciate when you do. Javier was our favourite staff member at the buffet. He is extremely attentive and helpful. They have a nice theater area with great performances every night. Overall we had an amazing time and will definitely recommend this resort to our friends.
