What a pleasant afternoon we had today.....enjoying the food, the view and the exceptional service at Westin Moana in Waikiki!!! High tea is served daily between 11:30 -14:30. I would recommend making a reservation and kindly ask for a table closest to the beach as you can admire the spectacular scenery on Waikiki beach. Definitely a special outing if you enjoy the traditional particulars of high tea.

Great hotel but don’t expect special recognition for Platinum Marriot members.

The Moana Surfrider is one of my favorite hotels in Waikiki. It’s a beautiful plantation style hotel and the oldest hotel in Waikiki built in 1901. The location is in the heart of Waikiki on the beach which can’t be beat. Marriot Platinum members do get use of the Club Lounge and the spa. Breakfast and Happy Hour are served in the Club lounge which is right on the beach. The spa is beautiful and it also overlooks Waikiki beach. Unfortunately there are a few negatives which soured my stay as a Marriot Platinum member. The worst thing is the front desk. There is usually a line for Marriot elite members and sometimes there is nobody to help and at the most there is only one elite check-in person. If you have any questions, you inevitably wait.  At check-in, I was“upgraded” to a room with no view from the room, only a partial side ocean view from the lanai. I changed rooms to a Diamond Tower ocean view and it was much better.  Also at check-in, I was never asked if I wanted the measly 1,000 points (worth about $6) or a local gift. I had to go back and ask for it. There is no more restaurant breakfast for Platinum members. While the Club Lounge buffet is sufficient, the restaurant is a few notches above.  Marriot Platinum members still get use of the spa facilities which is very nice but the steam room wasn’t working the first day when I went.  I asked for a 4:00 pm late check-out and got a 1:00 pm late check-out.  I’ve stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani many times and the buffet breakfast is better but overall the Moana Surfrider is a much better hotel. There were many annoyances at the Moana Surfrider but it’s still hard to beat “The Grand Old Lady of Waikiki.”

My wife and I have been coming to the Moana Surfrider every year since 2012. Gloria, Lee and Mo have run the pool and beach front for the hotel during that time span and they're super. Everything is top notch when they're in charge. Gloria and Lee have provided us many great recommendations for what to see and do around Oahu. All of those have been delightful get aways from the normal Waikiki scene. Take the opportunity to ask Lee about Iolani Palace.

I stayed here back in October for business, and was very happy with my stay. The room had a partial ocean view and was ver comfortable and clean. The hotel is right on the beach, and very convenient to everything. The bar is great with excellent views. On my next trip for work I will be returning to the Westin.

We have stayed in other “five stars” hotel in Waikiki over the many visits. Moana SR is the best. Quite pricey but enjoyable. The staff helpful and facilities excellent. Convenient to many places of our interest. However, the buffet breakfast was not as good as we expected.
