    Great Way to Celebrate 30

As a self proclaimed Disney nerd, this was a special trip to celebrate my 30th birthday. The whole trip was amazing from start to finish. While we knew there were changes due to COVID with some of the offerings being modified, we still had the best time. Our trip was from Sunday, April 11th to Friday, April 16th. We had a great partial ocean view room that had views of the surrounding area and ocean. The room itself had a king bed with a couch that turned into a pull out bed. There was plenty of space to store everything we brought with us for the week. The furnishings seemed a little plain but still felt the overall theme of the room. The bathroom was large however the doors had a unique design that were like shutters which couldn’t be closed. So sound could travel out of the bathroom very easily. Additionally the overhead lighting was a bit dark. However we enjoyed the room overall. Additionally when we first turned on the television, there was a happy birthday message. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful. The pools, hot tubs, and beach were all amazing. We never found them too crowded nor did we have any problems finding lounge chairs that other people reported. Occasionally the pools got a little full but we’re still manageable. We really enjoyed the “adult” pool. However due to COVID, it was turned into a family area which we knew prior. Even with that, it was never an issues and most families were very considerate. The water slides and lazy river were also a ton of fun. The food was good. We made reservations 30 days out for Makahiki for my actual birthday dinner since their more formal restaurant was still closed. The food was fantastic with a 3 course menu. More importantly, the hospitality of the waitstaff went above and beyond. We had great outside views right next to the open air doors. Additionally throughout the trip we ordered from the pool menu, Ulu Cafe, and Off the Hook. The menus were pretty basic with some special food items. We found the food at all tasty. We also enjoyed the outside dining at Off the Hook. Again the wait staff went above and beyond. We were also able to secure reservations for the Luau. We upgraded for the preferred staying. While it was pricy, we didn’t regret it. The show was fantastic and the food amazing. Additionally the all you can drink beverages were great. I don’t think I ever went the whole evening without a fresh margarita. They also gave us a free download of some pictures of the show and a few pictures they took of us first waking in. I couldn’t recommend this enough. The stores were small but had unique offerings. I wound up buying a few new souvenirs and t-shirts. As amazing as the trip was, there were only a couple experiences we felt were lacking. At first when checking in we experienced an extremely long wait that passed the lobby and went down one of the hotel hallways. It probably took about 30 minutes to get through the line. They also messed up the parking garage access for us to get in and out of the parking deck which required us to make a second stop at the front desk. Luckily there was no line that time. Even with that, all the cast members were helpful and patient anytime we needed assistance. Second was the inconsistencies of room service. One day they failed to empty the trash even though we were out of the room all day. Another day they visited at 3 in the afternoon, entering the room with the do not disturb sign out. Even with the few hiccups, we had a wonderful time staying here and without a doubt would stay here again.

    Everything was great outdoors

Over the years we have stayed at many Disney properties and we came in the midst of Covid and understand the restrictions of what is done and not, mask wearing, etc. The downfall is housekeeping. In the 8 days we stayed and had 3 rooms and spent a pretty penny, trash was not emptied, or dirty towels taken. Had to ask for Shampoos, soap and toilet paper. Beds never made, I think sheets left once. I saw housekeeping once. I think our room was visited once during our stay. Disney kept the landscaping and the grounds clean, they should do the same for housekeeping. Not going in blind, Disney is all about the money, they should invest in a great room experience that will make guests want to come back. They push their vacation club, our kids were thinking of us all purchasing into the vacation club, based on our Aulani in room experience there is absolutely no way. I think Disney is trying to do away with their housekeeping. We have visited Aulani about this and talked to Housekeeping manager twice about this. Barely admitting to what we experienced and not offering to make an accommodation for what all 3 of our rooms encountered, I think I would have a better response from the Palm Tree out our Patio. We have stayed at many Disney Properties in Florida and California in raising children over 30 years+. We always had good experiences in the hotel rooms, not at Aulani. It spoiled our family reunion not seeing each other for over 15 months during Covid. VERY DISAPPOINTED1

We stayed at Aulani last week for 4 nights. Prior to arriving at Aulani, we stayed at another resort on Oahu for our first 4 nights on island. Aulani is such a beautiful resort! We loved our 1 bedroom villa, our kids loved the pools, and the Ko Olina area is very nice. There were many amenities they didn’t offer that our other Oahu resort did. There is no housekeeping at Aulani right now, but someone will come by occasionally to empty your trash and leave fresh towels. There is no valet parking. The spa is not open. Even activities that could be done safely, like outdoor movies, are cancelled. Now, my family knew in advance what amenities at Aulani wouldn’t be available (although it did take some effort to research). We were still willing to go, because we knew our kids would love it and we knew we would have a good time even if many of the usual offerings were closed. We had a good time, and don’t regret our decision to visit. My issue with our visit is that I strongly feel Disney is using the excuse of Covid as a way to cut costs while still charging guests the same rates. The reason I feel strongly about this is because Disney, a multibillion dollar corporation, had less amenities available at Aulani for their guests than the locally owned, much smaller Oahu resort that we stayed at prior to checking in at Aulani. Our other Oahu resort had housekeeping, valet parking, as well as better cleaning and sanitizing efforts. A perfect example of how Disney is literally trying to save every penny is their lack of availability of PPE. While every citizen should always have their own personal face mask with them at all times, sometimes things can happen. Masks break, get lost, or get too dirty to wear. This is why large businesses usually have disposable masks available for their patrons. Any business that requires masks to be used on their premises should ALWAYS have disposable masks to hand to guests who need them. I don’t think I had ever been to a large business that didn’t have backup masks available, until I came to Disney Aulani. While walking around the Aulani resort, my son’s mask happened to break. Since we were right by the front desk, I explained to the desk staff what happened, and kindly asked if he could have a disposable mask. I was flatly told that Aulani does not have any disposable masks available for their guests, and if we needed a new mask, we could buy a cloth one at the gift shop. Needless to say, we trekked back up to our room to grab one of our spares instead, but the entire time we spent getting back to our room, my son had to be maskless. In essence, they want to use Covid as an excuse to save money, but they aren’t even protecting their guests from Covid with the same standards that other Oahu resorts are using. I would like to visit Aulani again once the pandemic is over, so I can compare our experiences and see if things improve. It is such a lovely place, and it made me sad that Disney could have made the experience better, but chose to save money instead.

Went for the Disney brand, was very disappointed. Not worth the price.

We visited Aulani last week and were very disappointed. The resort is still very restricted and not offering most of its amenities and activities. Kids club, the spa, restaurants, in-room dining, all activities, all character experiences...everything. Essentially, all the things you’d want when traveling to a Disney resort. This wasn’t disclosed to us in detail before we arrived, and it’s buried on the website. Our issue is that the rate we paid did not reflect the reduced amenities and experience. For the price, we should have stayed next door at the Four Seasons or at a 5-star resort on Waikiki beach. COVID restrictions aside, the food was mediocre, the rooms are dated and uncomfortable, and the conceirge was completely unhelpful with securing excursions, dinner reservations, and a car rental. We tried calling weeks in advance to get help, and nobody ever answered the phone or returned our messages. There was no way to book online either. Getting chairs at the pool and beach was nearly impossible - people were saving them before the sun was even up! They don’t enforce the “no saving chairs before 8am“ rule. Super frustrating since the pool and beach were the only amenities available. overall, there are much better places to stay on Oahu. If you’re committed to Disney for the kids, then stay one or two nights and check that box. Then go to better places on the island. We won’t be returning, even once restrictions are lifted. We went for the brand, and we were very disappointed.

We stayed at Aulani two times. The first visit was prior to the pandemic and it was extremely crowded, to the point that there were too many people for our stay to be truly enjoyable. This past December, the Aulani was amazing, there weren’t too many guests that it felt comfortable and inviting. The hotel took their guests’ health to heart, and we felt safe. The rooms and hotel is typical Disney, where they put so much care in each and every detail of design. The pools are GREAT with something fun for all ages. The beach is beautiful and weather perfect. The food is expensive of course, but it was quite good for “hotel food”, up to par for Disney. The only negative was that our daughter lost her stuffed animal in the spacing behind the sofa couch, and I had to call twice to have someone take me seriously. The second operator was so kind and personally took the time to help me, they found it while I was on hold, and sent it via fedex. In all honesty, the only time I’d stay at the Aulani is during low season when the resort isn’t as crowded. Otherwise, it’s such a beautiful and fun Disney hotel for the whole family.
