Excellent Vacation- Just a few things to be aware of

We stayed at the Grand Bahia April 2024 for 10 nights. We landed in Cancun Airport -it took about 20 minutes for the nexus transportation agents to find our private transfer down to Bahia. Once we were on our way, our driver stopped to go to the store and then pulled over to take bathroom breaks which meant our drive down was upwards of about 1 hour 35minutes……also he pulled out a 4 pack of beer- offered us one(we declined) and proceeded to drink about 10 minutes away from the resort?.....Anyway once we arrived at the resort the welcoming staff member arranged a cart that took us to our villa, the driver enlisted the help of a second staff member along the way to carry our luggage upstairs, in the heat, to the third floor (no elevators)…………the staff here are the most hardworking staff that I have experienced -it is so refreshing to experience happy staff and supreme level of helpfulness. We went to the spa (highly recommend) and enjoyed the main pool most days with the help of Antonio at the bar who offered us drink selections and accommodated our beverage requests, The Gin at this resort is scarce- apparently, it’s a premium beverage and you have to be a privilege member or pay extra for it. The privilege membership counter will try and rope you into attending a 3 hour long “introduction” to show you all about what the privilege membership is….we declined, but you must be prepared to use your mom voice because they are very persuasive in getting you to attend. We pretty much had to walk away while he was talking……the same evening we then received a phone call to our room asking us to attend the lobby at 8:00 am the next morning to receive a free souvenir. We still aren’t entirely sure what this was, but when we didn’t attend, we received 2 calls in the morning (back-to-back) which we didn’t answer- we didn’t bite on the invitation. The buffet was great- the hostesses will happily seat you, there are tons of food options- fresh omelets made to order for breakfast and pasta made to you liking at dinner-there is a gluten free and kids station every sitting. There is a couple of beach front take out options which were delicious. The room was fine, very clean and air conditioned- Just know, the bathroom situation can be a little tricky- as its open concept-the toilet is separate, but nothing is left to the imagination….you will either have love or trust the person you are traveling with……the friendly chamber maids were like clockwork everyday. Our mini fridge was well stocked daily as well. There is an open area market area with pharmacy located steps from the main lobby. The beach is a little rocky, but its not Bahia at fault, its nature, the seaweed that accumulates is cleaned daily by the hardworking staff. We managed to find a great umbrella seats directly on the beach, steps from bathrooms and a beach burger shack. A cab ride into Playa Del Carmen will cost you about 50US (one way) we went to see 5th Avenue-If you are there, please be warned that there are individuals standing alongside the streets that will hustle and try to bully you into the shops to spend, even going so far as to say they recognize you from the Bahia Principe… if your wristband is visible they can obviously tell where you are staying- we were approached by 3 different men who claimed they were our waiter, one even shook our hand, made small talk and then awkwardly tried to walk us into the jewelry store. On our last day we attended the nexus tours office to find out about our departure time, the staff members immediately asked us “did you attended the introduction that we always ask”...I told her no, we were not aware, (this may have been the missed call but – considering how it went in Playa I was on alert ) From there I asked what time we were to depart- the level of service from that point on was disgusting, she simply gave us a rolled eye, annoyed answer of 14:35…….my husband actually said “is it really this much trouble to help us? The other staff members barked something like- “you were supposed to attend”... But we didn’t stick around to hear anymore- we walked out of there totally disappointed and almost embarrassed for the staff members on the level of service we received. Aside from the Nexus hiccups and the hustles in town, The Bahia Principe Resort itself was amazing.
Great resort, just a couple shortfalls

Beautifully maintained property, buildings well maintained as well. Buffet had lots of variety and food was delicious. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The resort wasn’t full so a few restaurants were closed ??. This meant it was difficult making reservations. Only used 1 reservation out of 3. Times lots were either booked or restaurant wasn’t available. Our room was modern, bed comfortable, door locks open with just your wristband! Convenient. Disappointed that the water was sooo rocky. It was wavy too so hard to navigate the rocks. Water shoes help. The 9pm shows came with a cost but 10pm shows free but we were in bed by then. The Truck snack bar was excellent and open late. Rated this a 4* because of all the nice things about it. Just disappointed about the rocks and lack of restaurant availability.
