Great beach. Old Resort needs to updated !
EileenD277 (Wallingford, Connecticut) on Mar 16, 2024
The room had black mold growing up the wall, broken fixtures, etc. Paid a resort fee and our room was not cleaned by day 3 had to strip the bed myself and go to desk to ask for clean one, tried calling and nobody answers the phone on numerous occasions . Had no water when going back to room 3 different days, had to shower on the beach to get ready for dinner!! Nobody answer the phone for that problem had to walk down to desk. My concern if someone fell and you needed to call nobody would pick up. I have tried bringing these issues with the Resort and Elite Many calls and emails and NO RESPONSE .
Best value for the money

Best and longest beach anywhere on Antigua. Easy access to all amenities, very close walk to all public areas, pools, dining and bars and coffee shop. Very nice tennis and fitness center. It could be a 5 star if they improved the food quality and customer service attitude of the employees. We had a few occasions of rudeness and backtalk from servers, and one lost dinner reservation that was not honored. That hurts when you have to wait in line for 30 minutes at 8a.m. just to make the reservation to begin with. But there were more than enough nice employees to offset the few bad eggs. Very likely to come back in future.
Good self contained resort

We have just returned from a week in the Pineapple Beach ROOM - we stayed in a waterfront room overlooking Long Bay and are pleased we upgraded. The view was fabulous. The room could do with some TLC (for example the en-suite door wouldn’t close properly) but it was perfectly adequate. Room service every other day, but that wasn’t an issue for us. FOOD - the main restaurant is the Topaz, buffet style. The food was good although some times they did run out of certain things. The service was mainly good but on one evening we were completely overlooked for drinks and water. However, the view across the beach while eating is truly wonderful. It’s worth booking in for the Italian and Pineapple Grill. These are serviced restaurants and the food in both is very good. We especially enjoyed the Pineapple Grill. Just be prepared to queue at the desk to book 48 hours in advance. The Out House on the hilltop was brilliant. BBQ food and drinks with fantastic views. And a big shout out to the coffee shop - hot and cold drinks and cakes. We spent many a happy time there watching the little sugar birds trying to steal some food/drinks. STAFF - mostly friendly and helpful. The reception, gift shop, coffee shop and two sit down restaurants’ staff were very good, as were the bar staff and entertainment staff. TIPS - definitely go for a waterfront room. Make sure you visit the Out House grill on the hill, and book for the Italian and Pineapple Grill. We did an island tour, booked through Viator and this was to be recommended. It gave us a chance to see the island. We also did a shopping trip to St John’s. BEACH - fabulous. White sand and warm sea. Plenty of sun beds. They do experience a lot of seaweed (from Africa apparently) but every morning a tractor arrived to take some excess away). We loved the floating huge rings in the sea that you could sit/lie in and while away your time. In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. It felt like paradise and we really didn’t want to come home. We probably won’t go back there, but only because there are lots of other places we would like to visit. Would definitely recommend though.
A great week at a great resort

My family just returned from a week at PBC and all six of us, loved every minute! The property is beautiful, the food is delicious and beach is so pretty. I disagree with the complaints about the food. If you want cheese pizza, fries and chicken nuggets, go somewhere else. If you want delicious grilled fish, vegetables, an array of meat and vegetarian options, PBC hits that mark. I also did not see any problem with the seaweed on the beach. Every single morning we saw hardworking people shovel up the seaweed which washed up overnight leaving the beach clear, powdery and beautiful. There is always going to be some seaweed around (it is the sea after all) and complaining about that is like complaining about there being too much salt in ocean water. The beds were comfy, the air conditioner powerful, the Wi-Fi in the rooms strong, and the shower water hot. Sure the rooms could use a little bit of updating perhaps, but with a property this beautiful, you won't spend much time in the room. There is always security on the beach (even during the night) and we felt safe. The resort is pretty compact so it is never a long walk to get anywhere, but at the same time, it never felt busy (even though it is peak season) and there were always plenty of beach chairs available. My only complaints (and they are very small ones).....as a coffee lover....the coffee at the restaurant was not good, but that was ok because the coffee at the cute coffee shop was delicious. And because PBC does not use wrist bands to identify guests, there is no self-seating at meals. This results in sometimes long lines at the Topaz restaurant as guests waited to be seated. We never did try the a la carte restaurants because the line ups at the guest service desk every morning were too long. But that was not a problem as we loved the food at Topaz. It was a great week at a great resort. I would not hesitate to return or recommend it to anyone.
Mixed feelings of good and not good

Hotel - pleasantly suprised the hotel and surrounding area was beautiful, spaced out but all within walking distance to pools, the beach, bars and restaurants. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially in the coffee shop. This was a lovely place selling cakes and yummy cookies . Rooms - We were allocated our first room number which was in the quiet area on the ground floor, it was very small and when I walked in the floor gave way causing me to hurt my foot!! We reported this and an incident form was completed but we didn’t hear anything further. We did expect a slightly better response from management other than a change of rooms to two doors up which was still in the quiet area! This room was slightly bigger but my husband got loads of bites and we couldn’t understand why until we saw a cockroach and then several cockroaches!! My husband was convinced it was bed bugs also , this made me physically sick !! Again, management moved us to a room next to the pool!! This room smelt of damp! It Had a leak in the bathroom ceiling from the upstairs apartment and the toilet leaked when it was flushed!! To be honest we didn’t move again as we were fed up of changing rooms at this point !! However now I am home my shoes, suitcases smell of this horrible damp smell which I cannot get rid of . The rooms we stayed in were not of a good standard at all, very disappointing and in desperate need of refurbishment. Restaurants - the grill at the top of the Cliffe was good with spectacular views but the chef was extremely miserable and needed to smile a little. The fast food place was really good and the lady there worked so very hard. The Italian restaurant was good by not as good as the Caribbean restaurant which was located by hotel reception . The food at this restaurant was lovely . The grill restaurant was extra cost and being a vegetarian there was not much point in going . The buffet restaurant was very good for all meals and the breakfast egg man was excellent. Beach - always spare sunbeds and a lovely beach with white sand and turquoise waters . Some days the sea was rough with the winds but still beautiful. Lots of sunbeds around all pools and the beach and no need to reserve unless you want the front row which I did daily. Lots of shade from palm trees and also lots of sun umbrellas . Drinks - all drinks and cocktails were good but ask for branded drinks which do not cost extra, the bar staff will give you local drink so you need to ask for what you want. All the bar staff were amazing and happy to serve us drinks. Trips - we did the stingray city trip from the guy on the beach who talked and talked !! We had a brilliant time and would definitely recommend . We hired a car from hotel reception which was good apart from being late giving us the keys making our day out a bit stressful. We didn’t get a map from the hire company and there are no street signs in Antigua which is challenging. Advised to bring a map if you hire a car . We didn’t see much sea life on our beach by just snorkelling it was better further out to sea. Overall all we had a super holiday but was disappointed that the hotel management did not acknowledge the room situation and offer us something better , we didn’t even get an apology from management when we left and never heard anything from our incident form . The leaving charge was expensive and unnecessary as not all hotels charge this. Staff still expected tipping so we weren’t sure why this charge was added. Some people weren’t aware of his high charge and caused some distress. We will not visit the pineapple resort again because of the rooms but would definitely recommend Antigua it is a beautiful island .
