Good value for money, but too noisy
Kamen Y (Sofia, Bulgaria) on May 10, 2024
For those looking to relax: Generally, it's a resort for Americans looking to get drunk, so it's not really a place to relax. You can see people taking tequila shots from 9 am, unable to watch their kids, and needing assistance to return to their rooms. It's really ugly sometimes and I don't know why those people continue to be served. Not to mention the people in the pools screaming all day as if there's no one else around. It's cheap. However, there is a "silent" area at the end of the resort with no music, so it somehow works. Even though it's advertised as "silent," there are 2-3 activities around the pool that involve music. Make sure you ask for a room far away from the food trucks, which are open 24/7. Every night, drunk people listen to music, laugh, scream, and make noise. As you can guess, none of the staff are stopping them. "Entertainment" is another issue because there is non-stop activity and VERY loud music. At normal resorts, you can have a drink in the evening calmly, enjoying the warm summer night. This is not the case here. For people looking for beach days: Bring your swim shoes because there are lots of rocks. The bigger issue is the seaweed covering the beach and floating in the water. There are moments when it's possible to go into the water, and it's clean, but most of the time, it's not very pleasant unless you don't mind the seaweed. We were here at the end of April and the beginning of May. For foodies: The buffet is actually good. The concept is that there are different stations (Asian, pasta, pizza, sushi, Mexican, BBQ, etc.), so the food generally does not change. We tried the Mexican restaurant once, and it was superb. Make sure you make a reservation in advance because the restaurants are very busy. For those wanting to visit Tulum and Playa del Carmen: To get to Tulum Beach, you can first take a Colectivo at the entrance of the resort to Tulum Village for 50 pesos, then a taxi to Tulum beach for between 600-700 pesos. My advice: take a taxi for 1000-1200 pesos and don't waste time. To get to Playa: take a Colectivo for 50 pesos and walk 10 minutes to 5th Avenue; it's very convenient. Taxis on the way back cost 700-800 pesos. For those wanting to party at the resort: There is a disco every evening at the Hacienda. It's not bad for some drinks (all-inclusive) and some dancing between 11 pm and 2 am.
