Tracey-Ann Alleyne, Sonia, the bell hop and the tours person (Dorothy??) were fantastic and my trip memorial! From the cleanliness and friendliness of housekeeping, the the recommendations from the staff of food and activities. They treated us like they would want to be treated with respect, kindness, and professionalism. By the time we left they felt like family. Kudos to the great job they do at the Hilton Barbados!

Very nice hotel and property. Staff is very friendly and helpful. My hotel bed was hard. The beach had high tides in February, but there is a calm beach just across the parking lot in front of the hotel. Good location to anywhere in Barbados. Taxis are pricey. I will return.

    1. Whilst walking to our vehicle in the car park, a gentlemen I presumed to be an American stirred up quite a fright when he reversed his Jimmy, nearly striking my ladyship. Worst yet, the staff showed no concern for our safety, and the operator of the jimmy offered a disingenuous apology. 2. The lifts were dreadfully slow. On one occasion, the wife and I had the misfortune of boarding a lift simultaneously with an American couple who were half naked (the male had no shirt on, and the female was wearing a swimsuit top with a towel wrapped around her waste) both appeared inebriated. The duration of our travel on the lift is excruciating. I would think the resort could exercise better judgement in their provision of libations to their patrons. 3a. The restaurants at The Hilton are desperately lacking in many facets. Our first dining experience at the resort was at the “Lighthouse”. The food can best be described as something one would encounter in a metropolitan airport restaurant. Against my lady’s admonition, I ordered the ribeye steak. If by “medium” you mean cremated, then their chef would have earned a 5 star rating. 3b. Our second endeavor into resort dining was at Careenage. On this occasion, we were directed by other guests for light fare and cocktails. Mrs. H and I were seated a short distance from a table of 3 males who appeared to be speaking French. One of the parties also appeared to be inordinately intoxicated. The first indication of his level of intoxication is when he lit a cigarette in the dining area. When Hilton staff intervened, he hugged the staff member for a prolonged period, making the wife and I quite uncomfortable. This behavior was followed shortly by the knocking over of the wine bucket, scattering ice cubes about the dining area of the restaurant. One of the parties at the table proceeded to fall asleep at his place setting. It was inconceivable to me that rather than ejecting these parties from the establishment, they actually provided them YET another bottle of wine! After a mediocre meal, we were able to extract ourselves from this dreadful experience. 3c. Our third and final (thank goodness) dining experience was at The Grille, The Hilton’s lauded dining “experience”. The décor was rather pedestrian, lacking vistas of the sea. The staff was courteous, though they could not accommodate our seating request. As fate would have it, we were seated next to the American couple from the lift. Although they were attired properly for this establishment, their conduct would be more appropriate for a rowdy pub setting. Aside from this, the service was sluggish. It took nearly a fortnight to receive our pre dinner cocktail. The food was satisfactory at best for my concern, whilst my ladyship thoroughly enjoyed her cut of loin. Our sleeping accommodations, while well-appointed were lacking in the basics, such as a kettle and slippers. From the 6th floor, the view was adequate, though a few evenings we were subjected to music one might find in an urban nightclub. The music continued well past 9 pm. There was no screen door to the terrace. If I were an ornithologist, I might enjoy the company of birds that frequently entered our room to feast upon our sugar sachets. This is hardly what I would consider a sanitary environment, as birds carry disease and relieve themselves wherever they please. Upon our arrival at the Hilton we had anticipated a lengthy check in process, however we were pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of the desk staff, and take no issue with that portion of our stay. The beach area was reasonably well maintained, though the sunbeds and parasols, while plentiful, were a bit tattered and tired. The lower pool was crowded with children, and the upper pool was adequate, though lacking in expedient pool side service. The temperature seemed a bit chilly for our liking. Apparently an American security company had scheduled a conference at the hotel. We saw several men walking about in bright orange polo neck shirts, black trousers, and trainers giving them the appearance of someone servicing a fast food restaurant. While they did not cause a disturbance to speak of, their appearance was a distraction from what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday by the sea. While this Hilton is adequate for a business traveler, we will not be returning. Most likely we will seek accommodations on the west coast.

We spent 4 nights at the Hilton to celebrate my birthday. Overall no complaints, the weather was lovely, staff friendly & food OK. We did the buffet breakfast once, though given the price vs how much we eat didn’t make sense, I would suggest the coffee shop in the lobby, the ladies working there were delightful & cappuccino was perfect. Another option is Lefty’s for a breakfast sandwich (I am still thinking about it!) Our room was oceanfront facing the pool & it was fantastic, high ceilings , fresh decor & large bathroom. The only downside was housekeeping, they did a great job, but the room generally didn’t get made up until very late in the afternoon, this along with getting fresh beach towels in the morning are areas where staffing & planning could be improved. Something I really liked was that taxi service could be billed to our room, it was great to get off the plane & see a big Hilton sign & helpful staff to get us settled & on our way. The hotel was in a great location to walk to Carlisle bay which was excellent for snorkelling & not that long of a walk to the The Richard Haynes Boardwalk. We always had a nice lunch at the poolside restaurant & the rum punch was yummy! Overall we enjoyed our short stay at the Hilton.

We spent the February half term week in this hotel. For a 4* Hilton, we were clearly disappointed by our experience, as the Hotel standard does not meet Hilton 4* (or any other regular 4*) hotels in anything but the price. First the positives - very good location, on Needleham Point, a stone throw from Bridgetown and the Carlisle Bay Marine Park (which is probably the best spot of the island for snorkelling and diving) - we chose this hotel for its diving centre, and the Barbados Blue Diving and Watersport is really very good, with friendly and competent staff (thank you Nicole!) - the beach (sandy, ideal for young children) is nice and quiet, although the waterfront access is blocked by an artificial pier of rocks (which are meant to protect from Ocean's erosion) for a large portion - the swimming pool is exceptional for children to play (3 to 4 ft deep) and there is another one deeper but a bit too small to allow for swimming Now the negatives - they say you only get one chance of making a good first impression, and this hotel knows how to get it all wrong! - our room on arrival day was not ready until 8.30pm, simply unacceptable (not to mention the pathetic compensation offered, a free breakfast, when it was already included in our plan...) - I later discovered that ours was not an isolated incident but rather a recurring practice - we had paid for Half Board (big mistake!) but the hotel had no record of it and it took them more than 3 days to sort this out with the tour operator - the pasta dinner at the main restaurant (a glorified canteen in fact) was awful, the worst in our whole stay - rooms are clean and of a fair standard, however they are serviced at random times and very often late in the afternoon - the staff is very friendly, but generally clueless (just ask them what is included in your half board plan... hint: not much) - the food is the very weak point: - the main restaurant is not much better than an average school catering, but you still pay US$10 for a bottle of water - if you want a decent meal, you need to fork out an additional US$100 per person and go to the Grille - breakfast buffet is quite poor - the kids menu is always the same in all of the restaurants for the whole week (and don't look for anything healthy in there)
