Like many others we read a lot of reviews from different sources before making our decision. The front desk staff is fantastic and very helpful. We did have an issue with our room where they were making repairs and there was some kind of bugs that looked like ants. We didn’t notice right away since we got in and immediately wanted to enjoy our vacation. We didn’t make it back to the room until later at night and went to bed. I was woken up to someone hammering the roof and then I noticed some ants crawling in the tv stand and on the bathroom vanity. They do put fresh flowers from outside so it might have came from there but I’m not sure. I then went to speak to the front desk so that they could move our room. After explaining what was going on they told me to come back around 2pm and they would have a new room for us. We got our new room with any issues. Junior the bell boy was very helpful and friendly. The service staff is fantastic bartenders are awesome friendly and always smiling. The servers at the buffet and the a la carte Resturant were great. The only issue had with staff was with the lady who books your ala carte reservations. Not very friendly or even hospitable at that. To work in this industry you need to understand what hospitality is. The food was decent. The breakfast buffet had a lot of selections. They also have an ala carte breakfast which is great if you like to sleep in. The ala carte dinner are only open on certain days. We didn’t bother with the Asian, the grill steak house was ok and we couldn’t get info the seafood. The resort it self was clean a little dated but still decent for money you pay. I would recommend it. The people trying to sell you time shares and stuff on the beach is very annoying. After saying no a few times they finally leave you alone but still it’s VERY ANNOYING. People go there to relax and be in peace.

As with all trips, there was some good and some bad, but overall this trip was the best vacation value for the money for us of all our trips so far. There were some problems, but they got taken care of when we said something. This is not a 5 star hotel, so keep your expectations reasonable for a nice, older, smaller, very comfortable resort. We were able to get a great price on the upgraded Superior Platinum (VIP) room with access to VIP areas. With WestJet you also get free wifi for 1 device. I paid the extra $3 USD per day for an additional device. - THE PROS: It was so nice to have wifi in the room and throughout the resort (even the VIP section of the beach), which worked great everywhere except the bathroom. The a la carte restaurants were very nice, but we mostly enjoyed the buffet where the amazing food was always very fresh with lots of healthy things (best chicken I have ever had). Our room was large, simple, and on the ground floor, and had plenty of hot water. The king bed was comfy with plenty of soft pillows. Always left a tip daily for the maid and she always took extra care to make things extra nice and ensured that we had plenty of bottled water. The best part was all of the sun beds. So comfortable and always one available. The beach had a little VIP area that was on a wood deck (if you don’t like sand) with even more sun beds and couches. This was my favorite place. Other than 2 small buildings, there is essentially nothing to our right on the beach except for sand and nature, so lots of long beach walks surrounded by green natural beauty. Felt very safe with security on the beach, round the clock. The whole resort had plenty of seating with enough cushioned couches and chairs to make doing nothing in paradise so comfortable. They had a foam party one day in the pool with the bar, which was hilarious! They have a nice natural area on the 1 minute walk to the beach. Saw butterflies, 2 different woodpeckers, a bunch of birds including the pretty singing of the bananaquits that eat sugar from any unattended packets. We had a great time scuba diving with the hotel’s outfit called SeaPro (signed up by the pool). Did 2 days of 2 tank dives. Both days went to the same 2 spots, but they were beautiful and we saw different creatures each time. Diving is from a small boat on a pretty local’s beach in Sousa with beachside vendors along the walkway. Didn’t do any other packaged excursions, but instead did some private tours with Enrique’s Taxi and loved every minute. This is a beautiful peace of the world. - THE CONS: The only superior rooms are on the side that faces the walkway to the main pools and beach (buildings 6&7), so it was louder than I would have liked, but we just wore earplugs. I would have liked the side facing the spa pool, which is quiet, but that side doesn’t have the larger rooms. I wished they had a hot tub, but no luck there. It appeared like our fridge didn’t work, but it just needed overnight to cool down (power was off without the card in the wall). The hairdryer & phone didn’t work. The hairdryer and fridge got replaced. The phone is handled by another company, so a request was put in. There were a few employees during that first night of figuring things out that were not overtly rude, but seemed exasperated. After that night they were friendly & great though, so it might have been my exasperation, lol! Beware of the Circle One timeshare people. It was raining and we decided to let them cart us off to their sales pitch thinking there would be a gift for our time. 2 boring hours later I filled out my review and asked for our gift and they said if the gift wasn’t promised beforehand, we didn’t get one. What a waste! Not the fault of the resort, but a 24 hour stomach bug went around. We know it wasn’t food related because we ate exactly the same things and we got sick 2 days apart with the same awful coming out both ends for just one night, so keep your hand sanitizer in use! Viruses spread quick at these places. Overall, this was a beautiful resort with lots of cushioned seating for lounging. I appreciated the VIP for my favorite private section of the beach (with wifi!) that always had available sun beds as well as the bigger room (you also get the VIP bar in the lounge with higher-end drinks for free if you are into that). There is a small mall 2 buildings away (don’t take the carriages, getting on one would take longer than walking there). It has cute gift shops & a pharmacy. The bank at this mall has an ATM that is pricey ($5/200 pesos fee for max $50/2,000 peso withdrawal). If you can go into town, there are many scotia banks where you can pull out $250/10,000 pesos for a $5 fee (& you can do this transaction a couple of times). Money comes out in Pesos. In general the exchange fees are higher here, so exchange to US dollars before you come (all prices, like at the spa, is in USD). If you pay in CAD, you will pay a bit more than you should. In town, they like USD or Pesos, if you can get to a ATM that lets you take out enough to warrant the fee for Pesos. We did some private tours (just for 2) with Enrique’s taxi and he brought us right to the scotia bank, guided walk of botanical gardens, cable car, good quality amber jewelry from the mine, even did a trip to monkey jungle where we got to be the only ones with all those tiny cute monkeys, and he had wifi & drinks in his van for the same price or less than group tours. If you are like us and manage to snag a sale for 2 weeks at this resort, you will find you have everything you need to relax in a beautiful piece of paradise. We were never bored & had a great time at an affordable price. I would do it with or without the VIP upgrade. I enjoyed the VIP, but it was so pretty here, I would have been comfortable and happy, regardless.
