My family and I are regular travellers to Barbados and we absolutely love it when we stay at crystal cove . It is extremely family friendly , has great entertainment , a beautiful beach and exceptional views! They have a good variety of different foods at breakfast , lunch and dinner and have a lovely swim up bar. I highly recommend this hotel to other families!

Stayed at Waves went To visit on dine around. Good service ok food. Although enjoyed stay there for the day. Waves service by the staff is much better along with the Asian restaurant. Kim the manger at Waves runs a fantastic team of staff who are always happy and smiley which makes Waves the best hotel in the chain. Did notice that Sam the man works mainly at Crystal cove and also try’s to get business at Waves. He is very charming and seems to be a lovely man. But please be aware he is a beach peddler and his prices are extortionate compared to the local taxi firms that Waves uses who in my opinion offer better island tours for half the price and you have peace of mind that they have a taxi licence and are insured. Please be aware. Loved the day visit to Crystal but glad we were staying at Waves. A big thank you to Kim and her staff.

Fab location but don’t expect a la carte experience

We have experienced premium all inclusive /a la carte on Caribbean cruises, Mexico all inclusive hotels, for much less than we paid for this holiday, so had high expectations. Sadly this didn’t deliver all it promised. As previous reviewers have said, it depends on what your experience and expectations are. This would have been a 2star rating had senior management not responded to frequent complaints to improve dining, though it took several visits to reception at least an hour each to resolve and who wants to spend their holiday complaining? This is not premium a la carte. it’s table d’hote with 3-4 options on 3 courses on 4 out of 7 days, the other 3 being buffets which in spite of being branded as Caribbean or bbq, consisted of pre cooked, kept warm fish, thin tough steak, and tired looking salad and veg, with the usual noise, queue and scrum of a buffet. Virgin should re word their description as it is misleading; there are many like us who don’t like buffets. At first the restaurant staff offered no alternatives, it was very much a case of “choose from the table d,hote or, on buffet days join the queue. Once we raised concerns, Sophia and Dominique offered more choice and flexibility, with a decent steak, fresh veg, etc, which did help, and the quality of meals did improve. This helped, but really should have available from day1 Drinks and cocktails were very good quality, but the beach service was poor, even when we tipped generously, We ended up getting a tray at the bar and serving ourselves on the beach. Whilst appreciating the desire not to serve alcohol before 12, when asked if there is beer on the soft drinks tray at 11am we’d expect to be brought one. The dine around was a god send; waves Asian restaurant exceptional in both food and service, as was lunch at tamarind. However, it took ages to book, involved lengthy phone calls and e mails by Lisa at reception, whilst we waited some 45 minutes for confirmation. We witnessed guests being told their requested restaurant was full, yet we saw it half empty the same day. There has to be a better way. The courtesy boat was great to sail along the beautiful coastline to other hotels Our room was lovely, with an upgraded bathroom, and our garden view also took in the sea. The service alley was a bit noisy from 7am every day. The coffee bar was great, as were the tapas and fizz served from 5pm. It would have been nice to have this open for a decent coffee in the morning. Beach grill at drifters at lunchtime was very good. Excellent tuna and dorado freshly grilled to order. The staff were mostly friendly and polite. A few were especially notable for their high service and great personality; Robert at the bar and coffee shop and Joan in the restaurant. Some of the younger staff seemed rather disinterested and didn’t engage with their customers. In spite of the time spent booking restaurants, serving ourselves drinks on the beach etc, we had a good holiday and would return here knowing what to expect and ask for to raise it from good to great The hotel is in a perfect location and has all the key ingredients to make this a top class venue. I hope when it re opens after the lockdown, as part of the Marriott group, it will continue to improve.

Great location, friendly staff and guests, superb facilities. Nothing was too much trouble. Location and beach facilities were world class and the water taxi was a fantastic service which we used extensively. The opportunity to use other group hotels was the highlight - Tamarind being exceptional.

We have stayed at this lovely hotel many times since it opened. Yes it’s getting a little frayed around the edges but the refurbished rooms are lovely and it wouldn’t take too much to return it to tip top condition. We stayed this year for a special anniversary celebration so chose to stay for 3 weeks instead of 2 and loved every minute. Even the last week when the hotel started to prepare for its closure (very sad) the staff were professional, friendly and efficient right until the very last minute when there was just our table and 2 chairs in the restaurant. Last men standing! Food was great, cocktails amazing, beach beautiful, room perfect.... but as has been said many times it’s the staff that make this place they are truly in a league of their own. Sophie is a brilliant manager and has made such a great team spirit and they all seem to work so well together. It’s great to see the same friendly faces every visit. Hazel, Joan, Kathy, Delores, Michael, Andrea, Dawna, Tanya, Pamela, Lisa, Celeste, Shane, Kevin, Crystal, Sasha, Joanna...I could carry on all day there’s just so many top class staff. Sorry to those I haven’t had space to mention. Monica and her assistant on the beach/garden were greeting us every morning with big sunshine smiles. The dine around is a great idea we managed to get to Tamarind and to Waves before the lock down started. The entertainment was good, karaoke is especially good fun. Please Marriott don’t change this lovely hotel and it’s staff you really have bought a little jewel in the whole of the Caribbean. Stay safe everyone and we hope to see you all next year. Thank you all so much for your professionalism and for keeping up your spirits in what must have been a worrying time for you. You are truly the best.
