We, four couples, booked with Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa through Costco. This was our first experience with an all-inclusive resort. Overall, it was a good experience but there were some difficult issues we encountered along the way. Executive Summary: If you can get past the minor and mostly cosmetic issues with the facility, you have have a really good time. The staff are respectful, fun, and know their jobs. The food was good and there was a good variety. The pools, lazy river, and water slide were excellent fun. The Good: - The food was good and fresh most of the time. This is especially difficult in buffets. Breakfast was always good and offered a very wide variety. The gentleman making the omelettes was excellent. - Seaside was a very good restaurant - When there were lines, they were short, and moved along quickly. - The staff were fantastic. Every interaction was "service from the heart." Each person was personable and caring. Several times, staff made extraordinary efforts to help us ... in making drinks and serving food. - The use of non-motorized equipment was a big plus - The beach was small but the water was clean and clear - The lazy river and the water slide were excellent. It was fun! The Not So Good: - There were two elevators in our wing and one was broken for the entire trip. This was really the only place were there was a line ... waiting to get use of the only working elevator. Even the working elevator had floor buttons that did not work. We took the stairs often and the service elevator too. - When my wife and I checked in, the room we got was already occupied! Yikes! It was quickly fixed and they gave us a $30 credit for the gift shop - Of the four couples, two couples had to be moved because of issues with their rooms. - The general grounds are in good shape. The lazy river and the water slide are all practically brand new. However, the building is decaying due to a lack of maintenance. As example, one couple in our group found that their door wasn't locking. The maintenance man just took the striker off instead of fixing the problem. Then I noticed that the door latches on most room doors are missing their strikers. This doesn't sound like a big deal but there were many things like this. Floor tiles chipped or missing. Countertops cracked or broken.

I came here for a 6 day vacation. The staff there were all super friendly, probably the best part of the resort. The food & drinks were average. Rooms were pretty clean. I noticed that there were a lot of kids / families around, if that is something some people might mind. I wish the beach waters were nicer, but I don't think the resort would have control over that anyways. Overall, had a great experience here!

The two stars are for the staff and food. The employees were all wonderful and friendly. Every staff member i interacted with had a smile on their face. The food was what you would expect from a carribean all-inclusive. Buffet had a nice selection and the restaurants were good, although i was not a fan of the italian. You don't go to Jamaica for italian food so that's understandable. A big plus is plenty of kid-friendly choices. The pool area and swim-up bar were also very nice. Lazy river and slides were a big hit with the kids and if you're looking for a "pool-only" vacation this would'nt be a bad choice. However, we experienced several issues with the hotel during our stay. The beach at this hotel is absolutely filthy. The main beach was covered in seaweed and trash. When it wasn't closed it was being worked on by hotel staff. The problem is, the "solution" is to drive a bulldozer back and forth across both beaches to remove seaweed and trash. This is done during the middle of the day, so it's impossible to actually enjoy the beach, as every 5 minutes the children have to watch out for bulldozer traffic. I understand that sometimes weather causes issues like seaweed or trash to wash up, but perhaps the cleanup crew can work overnight or very early in the morning before most guests are trying to enjoy their family time on the beach For the first two nights the bathroom door was squeaky and the toilet mad a loud hissing noise each time it was flushed. With a family of 4 in the room, this caused someone to wake up each time the bathroom was used. We reported this on the 3rd day and it was fixed immediately. It would have been nice if the room was checked for this before we checked-in. While i appreciate the staff promptly fixing those two issues, it was still an inconvenience for two sleepless nights and then having to take time out of my trip to report it to the front desk. The air conditioner was also quite loud and this was also reported. Maintenance said it was fixed but it did not seem like much of a difference. The hot tub by the pool was "Closed for treatment" for the entire length of our stay. Considering this being a Hilton hotel with the financial resources to fix these issues in a timely manner, i find it unacceptable that a hot tub could not be fixed with a day or two. Lastly, the board games and beach games were just in bad condition or missing pieces. Missing tokens for board games, not enough sand bags for bean bag toss, etc.

There are certainly more expensive resorts in Rose Hall but the Hilton really delivers a pretty good bang for your buck. There are other resorts that will cost twice or three times or more, but its hard to argue they are delivering twice or three times the experience.

We were 2 adults and a 4 year old and infant. For us this was a near perfect vacation and we would recommend this place to other families with young children and will come here ourselves again too. This review is focused on the family perspective. I would not recommend this place for adults only or for bachelor parties... basically anyone looking for partying, adult entertainment, few to no kids, teenagers who get bored easily.. this resort isn't for you. Also we have been to Sandals and Iberostar in mexico so our review is relative to our experience at a nicer and comparable place. The size of the resort was perfect... big enough that they had enough restaurants, pools, beach etc. Small enough to rush back to your rooms without it feeling like a trek. We did a lot of back/forth with our infant Check in was smooth. Took15-20 min. but timing is everything because 30 mins later we noticed each counter had long line ups. Food - very good. Better than we had in mexico. Fresh, good quality and decent variety. By day 6 it did get a little bit repetitive, especially lunch, but we also didnt try everything. We stuck to a few places. Notable favourites- the pasta station at fresh, jerk hut, Annie's smokehouse, the Italian place for dinner and my husband loved all the jamaican dishes at breakfast and lunches. The juice bar and coffee shop are enough to make me coming back. Amazing coffee and fresh real fruit juice. You dont see this at many resorts and is definitely a key differentiator and highlight. Rooms- average with an amazing view. Not luxe... but very clean, functional, good mattresses. We asked for firmer pillows and they were provided. Everything worked. We had partial ocean view... on par with ocean front rooms at other resorts. We chose to be facing the pool/entertainment. This worked for us because it was nice to hear the entertainment and music during our kids nap and early eve sleep times. Also wifi was amazing in our room prob due to location. Entertainment - fine to keep kids busy but adults and teens would prob want more... the biggest disappointment for us was reggae night. We love reggae music and the singer was awful.. figured this would be their best night but no... the majic show and steeldrum night were much better. Wifi was good but further way you get from the main area of the resort it goes away. Service - very good. Rooms were cleaned well, fridge stocked with our request (lots of water), a la carte service was great. The service at the buffet is a bit inconsistent and there were 2 days our fridge didnt get stocked.our observation was that on the resorts busy days the staff may not always have been able to keep up. They were all very hard working and pleasant.. no major complaint here Beach - montego bay is not the place for clear blue water where you can see your feet at the bottom. It was fine for us.we had 2- 3 beach days and mostly played in the sand. We didnt swim in the water and it was too windy for sailing. If you are a big beach person you may be disappointed. Water park and pool - highlight for us. Lazy river, swim up bar, slides... spent almost of time here. We brought extra tubes based on the reviews. They weren't needed .. took a few min but we always managed to find a resort tube. Overall a great place with happy memories for us and we will return again assuming things stay the same
