Debating between 3 and 4 stars for the Waikiki Marriott. Will probably alternate back and forth while I write this review. This last trip, switched hotels mid trip to have a different experience. The Good: Location was right across the street from the beach. The views from the Ocean side were amazing. Their communication on construction and noise was on point. The 2 people/1 family per elevator made it feel safer. Very modern room. Nicely furnished. Bed was comfy. Accommodated our late checkout request very nicely. Had self parking. Lots of hand sanitizer stations Took care of our extra towel request immediately. The could be improved: The WiFi/internet was really bad. High latency, lots of dropped packets, made it hard to work when I needed to. Also, take 1 step onto the balcony, and the internet just stopped working. Bathroom sink faucet was too short. Water kept going everywhere. The check in was super slow and inefficient. You had to touch the key readers in the elevators and hold for it to read the key (in COVID times this felt really dirty). Confusing message on COVID. They sent an email saying no daily housekeeping, on the app it said no daily housekeeping, yet on checkin they asked when we would like our daily housekeeping, morning or afternoon? Staff was not as friendly as I am used to. 90% of housekeeping didn’t even say good morning when passing in the halls. Last day I finally got an aloha! While they warned you about construction noise, they did not warn you about the construction smell. Daytime all we could smell was a burning rubber or plastic smell. Luckily it went away at night. Balcony could use a light.

great location, good food options, fun lobby/lounge area. the view of the beach was perfect. the service was wonderful, along with the staff. it's clean and fresh. the pool isn't too big, but it's a nice size and a hot tub, all outside. the pool bar isn't open due to Covid, but it was still nice to sit out there. great walking distance to the beach, shops, restaurants.
awful treatment

I was quarantined on a lay over and the hotel were not helpful at all. I understand they can't control the quarantine however to leave me locked in my room with no bottled water, no coffee maker and no room service was unacceptable for the amount of money I paid for the night. I managed to get uber eats to deliver for me but they have to deliver to the front desk and you have to wait for the food being delivered, this resulted in cold food and coffee. being a diabetic and left with no concern by the staff was in my opinion unacceptable. I had a reservation for the return lay over but I think I will be canceling that.

The ocean view corner room is very spacious with beautiful views. The decor is updated and modern. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is across the street from the beach. Highly recommend this hotel.
Ocean Front Is Not Worth The Money

We stayed at Waikiki Beach Marriott for a week at the end of December until January 5. Last time we visited Oahu, we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian in a garden view room. I really wanted to be guaranteed to have a room with a full ocean view and a balcony, so I decided to book the ocean front room at the Marriott. If I had it to do over, I would opt for no view at the Royal Hawaiian or Moana Surfrider. The Marriott room was the most expensive I could book online, but it was quite disappointing. Apparently this was supposed to be a nicer room because of my platinum status. We were placed in the same category of room that we booked, so there was no platinum upgrade. The view would have been great if a wall of other rooms were not right next to us. We were on the corner sandwiched next to the L shaped building connecting to what I'm assuming are the ocean view rooms. We got to see dozens of people smoking cigarettes and cigars, eating buckets of chicken, and a variety of other things. The cigarette and cigar smell really ruined the tranquil vibe. Then, directly next to us (and also on the floor below) were rooms that were being used for Marriott storage. We got to see piles of pillows, bedding, and mattresses every evening. The curtains in these rooms were left wide open and the lights were on. Any time we looked to the right, that's what we saw. When we looked down, we got to see the pool that is not open. It is a disaster. It needs to at least be cleaned up so it is not such an eyesore. Sound was another problem. The walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbors. Our room was next to the hydration station and ice machine so it was very noisy any time someone used that area. The mattresses were not comfortable. We had requested a king sized bed, but were told that there was not a single room with a king size bed available, so that was another disappointment. Most disturbing was the air conditioner vent in the room. I did not notice until the end of the trip that it is covered in mold. This was not a cheap trip and I expected more from the room. The layout was good and there was a nice bidet, but it was not worth the money. I think we would have had a better view and more privacy in an ocean view room instead of ocean front. I would not recommend parking at the Marriott. It is the most expensive parking on the island and the parking structure is filthy. People drive very fast in there around the corners and we had some close calls. I would have given my review two stars if it hadn't been for the staff. Everyone was working hard to follow Covid protocol. There were staff constantly cleaning and making sure that only two people or families got on the elevator at one time. The staff at the Kuhio Grill was the best. Everyone there went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Georgette was especially kind and interested in making our trip nice. We took the free breakfast as part of the platinum perks, but in retrospect, I think the points would have been better. Unless you pay $7.50 to upgrade, you get the same breakfast every day. It was plain Greek yogurt, fruit, granola, and a Hawaiian roll every day. Burger King is right next door so that may be a better breakfast option. We were very happy to be able to travel to a place where we felt safe and are appreciative that Marriott took the problems of the pandemic seriously. However, I don't think I would stay there again.
