5-star rating is a joke

cg0327 (Riverside, California) on Jul 05, 2024

I'm really quite confused as to how this is rated a 5-star hotel because there are so many areas in which quality comes up short and in my opinion is not deserving of a high rating. It seems they remodeled their rooms a few years ago, but did they upgrade the beds? The bed in our room was hard, lumpy, and uncomfortable. I did not have a decent night's sleep for our 5-day visit. The screen door to the balcony was broken and clearly had been for quite some time. It was "repaired" halfway through our stay, but really they only sealed one side, the bottom of the screen was still unsealed. The room had a coffee pot and 2 mugs unceremoniously placed on top of a paper towel in our room, but no coffee, tea, etc. No refrigerator. Stains on the lampshade and dining bench. Food from the pool bar is unimpressive, seems like they bought most ingredients from Costco and carelessly mixed them together. Their fried food (fish, fries, chicken tenders) was especially disgusting. Breakfast buffet was slightly better, but they had little options to select from. Sorry to say but if you think the food here is muy excelente, you probably think fine dining is Applebee's or Sizzler. The one time the food was actually quite good was one dinner we had at Cilantro's. I liked their chicken breast and my fiancé enjoyed the skirt steak. We were unable to eat at Angelo's because they have a no-children policy and we had our toddler with us. Based on the rest of the dining at the hotel though, I don't think we were missing much. Staff is super obsessed with you tagging your wristband for EVERYTHING and during check-in they make such a huge deal about returning your pool towels, to the point that you have to physically sign an agreement that you will return the freaking towels, and when you check out they ask you if you returned them or not. They even keep tabs on what room you're in when asking for water bottles, which if you ask the pool bar BEFORE 10 am (when they open), they will refuse to give you water bottles. It's water! It should be easily accessible for everyone at any time! The spa and gym is located at their sister site, which you take a shuttle to, but keep in mind the shuttle does not run between noon and 4pm, so you need to plan your visit there accordingly. Overall, I was not happy with this hotel. Compared to other all inclusives, this hotel was lacking in quality and selection that I would expect to come from a higher-end all inclusive. I would not stay here again nor recommend this hotel to others.

Amazing experience at Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Carlos Ortiz at the front desk went above and beyond . He made our stay at PB Mazatlan by addressing our concerns with no hesitance. Thank you Carlos ! We look forward to seeing you again

A pleasant stay

Tim P on Jun 13, 2024

Carlos was very helpful on check in and also administration of a venue change. Professional, courteous and helpful . I had set expectations low as I hadn't been impressed with my last stay in Mazatlan. (Totally unrelated to PB Mazatlan) but as we depart, we will absolutely be back.

Not as GRAND as I remember:(

Mely S on Jun 12, 2024

Mix feelings about this hotel because it really holds a special place in my childhood memories but I gotta say it wasn't as GRAND as I remembered. The GOOD: Staff is really attentive. They go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. Location: very centric and everything is within 5-10 drive Pools: Both pools are big and they have enough lounge chairs around. The pool staff were also fantastic. Plenty of Palapas at the beach for everyone The buffet at Las Palomas never disappointed. Kuddos to Gonzalo and Freddi. Great service. Angelo's restaurant- delicious and good wine selection. Kuddos to our server Alejandro Ibarra. He was great. Casa 46- delicious upscale food with beautiful views of the centro histórico The BAD: The common areas needed more up keeping. one of the nights there was so much trash around the pools (Shame on guests for leaving so much trash out) but that clearly shows you that they are understaff if they cannot keep with picking up leftovers cups and cans. The food at Cilantro's restaurant was mediocre. The service at the bar was great but not at the dining area; took too long when there were hardly any people. No transportation to the sister hotel Emerald Bay. They gave us some BS about being out of contract with their transportation company; however, if you signed up for the time-share breakfast then they would provide you transportation. Alcoholic beverages: ALL the alcohol is clearly watered-down. You could never taste the alcohol and I never got a buzz after several drinks (I would even ask for doubles) The only time I had good drinks was at their sister location, Emerald Bay; I am assuming they don't use watered down alcohol at this location because this is were they host their 'time-share' meetings and they need to impress the guests. They require you to sign a contract before check-in that prohibits hiring La Banda on the beach, even though Neto Coppel posted multiple videos on TikTok saying he would allow bands to play there (because the beaches are public!). It's frustrating because the contract states that if you're caught, they can remove you from the premises. I’ve stayed at other Pueblo Bonitos but this one that I would not stay again.
