experience after and before hurricane melissa

Tiana B on Jan 23, 2026

I went to Royalton for a birthday trip . not after the days I arrive I found out there was hurricane , the Jamaican government shouldn't of let tourists in the country knowing they was a hurricane coming , anyway the communication with the staff during the hurricane was horrible. of course they were focused on getting the hotel back to normal but they didn't even provide us with anything for our room other than breakfast. I wouldn't advise going to Jamaica during hurricane season as well. building on this this , they left us in the building with a 3 month old baby and didnt tell us they were evacuating so we stayed in our room for awhile to the point our room was flooding . after we dried the floor with towels we went down for breakfast and we left all our things in the hotel room including our passports and they wouldn't allow us to go get our belongings after the hurricane . If your going to Jamaica to celebrate with family or friends its better to stay in a villa or a relatives house e. I do not recomend you come here .

Days before Melissa

This was our second time at Blue Waters. Hotel itself is very clean and tidy. The majority of staff are very helpful and attentive. The pool waiting staff was very hit and miss. Food was mainly good. The steak house has definitely lost some of its appeal. The bread and oil (vegetable oil) not olive wasn’t pleasant. The plate arrived with oil still in the plates. The open kitchen is now frosted over and cannot watch the chefs at work. I don’t feel the resort food/drink in Jamaica is as good the Cancun resort. The rooms in Jamaica are more modern than Cancun. We had a few minor issues that were resolved very quickly by Brenda the general manager. She is a beautiful lady inside and out. Very genuine and kind. Also Britannia in the coffee shop remembered our order after the first day. She was also very polite and kept the counter tidy. The hotel was also selling day tickets this then lead to some eating areas and bars not being able to cope with the volume of people. A little disappointing when we had paid to stay at the resort for a second time and receiving a completely service. We did hire a local driver to go to mo bay. We used the vendors to the right of the resort for horse riding.

Horrible

Relax42595755307 (New York) on Dec 22, 2025

Our reservation was cancelled due to the hurricane, very understandable. We were told the refund would take 7-10 business days. When we didn’t receive the money we called the number provided but they didn’t have any answers, we were told to contact the resort directly. The phone number wasn’t working so I emailed them. I had to email them multiple times to get a response and they said they didn’t charge us and if they did, it would take up to 30 days to receive a refund. It was already more than 30 days and We sent them proof from the bank that $2,100 was taken out of our account. They said they sent it to corporate. Finally we heard back from them after multiple attempts of reaching out again. They said we’d receive the refund by the end of the week and we did not. I then emailed them multiple times since then and have not heard back. This is absolutely ridiculous and we need our money back.

Worst customer experience ever

Saul E on Nov 22, 2025

I never made it to the hotel. My family and I were supposed to stay at the Royalton Blue Waters at the end of December 2025. After the big hurricane hit Jamaica in late October, we were worried our vacation would be cancelled. However, we heard nothing from the hotel. We waited because we wanted to ensure the hotel could focus on what was needed to keep it open. On November 5, weeks after the hurricane, we received an email from the hotel asking us to pay more to choose a room in advance or upgrade our room. This lead us to believe the hotel was open. We declined the upgrade and kept checking the hotel’s website for any confirmation that it was open but received nothing. Given the silence, we emailed the hotel on November 17 but they didn’t respond. On November 22, hearing no response, I called the hotel directly. Unfortunately, after trying multiple numbers, I could t get anyone to answer. This worried me so I called Royalton’s main line. When I got someone, they told me the hotel was closed through September 2026. When I asked when I was going to be told the hotel was closed, the rep had no answer. I asked her to look into this and all she said was the hotel was closed and I could cancel or transfer my reservation. I asked if Royalton would give me anything for the inconvenience of the hotel being closed and having to change everything, without ever receiving notice, and all I was offered was a bottle of champagne at an all inclusive resort. Needless to say, I cancelled my reservation and will never contemplate anything with Royalton again. Easily the worst customer experience ever. Stay away!
