Great family vacation

kerstin b on Jul 20, 2024

We really enjoyed our stay with our 3 year old and 10 month old daughters. Rooms: Our room was clean, beds were comfortable. The staff put a fold out bed for our toddler and a crib for our baby in our room, right upon arrival. Food: The food wasn't anything spectacular. The buffet had the same food options every night. I wish they’d rotate some of the stations for variety. Capers: The Italian restaurant was really good. It’s adults only, so we had to hire a babysitter. Castaways: was excellent. Barefoot grill/ Poolside: could use improvement. They only offer pizza, burgers and fried foods. It would be nice if they added a few lighter options like salads, wraps or fruit to the menu. Kids club: our three year old spent an hour or two a day at kids club. She loved it there when Estefania and Jazmin were working. They were the sweetest-always friendly and interacting with the kids. We had Estefania as our babysitter to enjoy a dinner at Capers. She did fantastic with both girls. The pools had ample seating and the pool servers were fast and friendly. The beach is nice and swimmable. Spa: I had the best massage with Mauricio! Amazing! All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Good location, kind staff and clean

Everything was great except the buffet and restaurants, besides the Italian one, needed more seasoning and flavor. I appreciated the variety and the hotel accommodated all of our needs.

Not as good as last year

As a returning guest We arrived at Dreams Vallarta Bay at the end of February for two weeks and were greeted on arrival with a welcome drink and porters waiting to take our bags to our rooms. You cannot fault the view from the lobby - pool and see view with a welcome warm breeze. The hotel itself is mostly spotless. It was my mums birthday and on arrival there was cake waiting for us which was a lovely surprise. The rooms are nice and big with plenty of wardrobe/draw space and all amenities have been provided for. All the rooms are of the sea view and you’re that close even when the doors are shut you can still hear the crashing of the waves. Compared to my visit last year there was no turn down service provided (we never would’ve wanted to use it anyway). There is a fridge containing a mixture of complimentary drinks which are topped up every other day. There is a hyatt app you can download which provides information about the hotel/restaurants/daily activities and you can order amenities and room service etc which was helpful. The restaurants are great with a wide selection of food on offer till late including room service. Christopher on the entertainment team was brilliant, always smiling and enthusiastic, he clearly loves his job! The pool waiter staff were excellent - special mention to jamie/junior/Carlos always around for a chat and would go above and beyond helping us with local Knowledge etc also to the pool concierge Joel. The staff and hotel on the whole were great the only complaints we would have is that the night time entertainment was awful we ended up going to bed most nights straight after dinner. The pool toilets seemed to never been cleaned throughout the day - always dirty, wet floor and no toilet paper (i had to go myself into the storage cupboard and get some). The pool side is slippy and covered in water and we watched several people fall heavily - a rethink into the design might be helpful. The hotel caters for weddings and on some days they clear a small area in advance of sun loungers - this is fine as the main area is still kept as normal for guests… one Friday around 3pm the hotel started to take the loungers from the main pool area whilst people were still using them making them feel uncomfortable and that they had to leave. On the Saturday with no warning given the entire pool area was cleared of loungers and nobody was allowed to use the area for the entire day as they were setting up a wedding. There was no alternative places to sit, no warning given to guests and staff were giving the excuses that they were unaware of the event taking place as the event team hadn’t told them. There were a lot of angry guests - one member of staff told a guest to sit on the floor with his stuff! This is a 5 star resort and it seems to hotel guests that the wedding parties are more important.. money talks! Every guest should be made to feel important as 2 people or 100 people, guests have still paid lots of money and in our case travelled 12hrs to get there. If we had had prior warning we would’ve gone on a trip that day. Big families were taking over the pool area playing with balls most days in some cases hitting other guests or making them feel like they couldnt use the pool, you could see them squashing into corners. Kids were filling up the jacuzzi when theres clear signs saying no children and no ball games, people smoking in the pool and playing their own loud music. No staff member ever looked at what was happening in the pool area once. Towards the end of our holiday there was an incident involving a heavy, non water american football. We were hit and when told to please stop were then attacked verbally and almost physically. The staff members that had known us for our stay of two weeks vouched for us that we were good people but the pool concierge Juan and duty manager Jiro didn’t listen to us instead were seen with the person who attacked us speaking spanish, laughing and joking whilst the attacker mocked us with hand gestures. No apology was given and all that was said was there 48 of them and 2 of you - essentially telling us their money was better than ours no matter what had been done. We felt hurt and undermined and it spoilt our holiday. The managers were young and clearly did not have the experience to handle an issue such as this - even taking myself who has worked in customer service for over 12 years to give them some feedback and advice which the duty manager agreed was great. The following day Juan was seen high fiving and laughing with the the attacker and family, meanwhile he did not even come to say hello and follow up with us. It was humiliating and belittling. Unfortunately the uk is suspending flights to pvr but if they were continuing we wouldn’t stay at dreams because of this. The hotel needs to train their management team up better and decide if its a wedding venue or a hotel as it doesn’t work as both at all. Mexico and PVR are gorgeous and i would return in a heartbeat but not at this hotel. Its a beautiful charade.

Dreams? More like nightmares.

Our stay started in a ridiculous manner.  We checked into a room on the 5th floor, apparently the 6th floor is being remodeled and is funneling paint fumes directly into the 5th floor.  This is unsafe and a horrible way to start a stay at a supposed 5 star resort. Next, we were moved into a room on the 2nd floor.  Keep in mind, this is around 11pm on the day that we checked in, where our travel started at 3am.  The entire room blacked out twice, apparently tripping breakers.  We got the maintenance manager involved.  The level of troubleshooting done?  Reset the breakers.  Definitely feels very safe with zero effort to find the problem.  We were then laying in bed when the bathroom LED lights which were switched OFF started strobing.  I unscrewed and removed the light bulbs one by one and placed them in a pile on the bathroom vanity.  By now it was midnight. The next day, I shared my thoughts with the reception manager.  We were moved for a THIRD time in less than 24 hours, ended up in the Preferred building.  The Preferred building was very nice and actually 5 star.  Incredibly frustrating to spend thousands of USD to start a vacation with absolutely substandard conditions and have to repack ourselves and our two children twice, what a waste of time.  We will not be returning to "Dreams". Meanwhile, in between changing rooms, we were preparing for my brother's wedding. So delightful.
