This would be my second time at this Resort. The first time was fabulous could not find anything wrong with the accommodations. This second time was way different. I don't know why they would change the format when it was perfect. Here are the negatives - Reception is run by clowns, everything is a joke (not a 5* impression) - Rooms were not ready at 3:00 but at 5:30 (not 5* service) - Transat Agent told us we could get our money exchanged (not the case) - They cut access to the other restaurants in other resorts (except a la carte) - Except for one are in the lobby the new chairs were picked for the look not comfort - Shower stalls are dirty - Rains in our closet - They had theme nights for the food, now the food is always the same - Unless you speak Spanish often your drink order is wrong - The show area is too close to the rooms, very loud at night - We pay to have access to the whole area not to be restricted because of a wedding - Wedding music was so loud that the base music was loud in our rooms - The wifi was always having problems All in all this is NOT a 5* resort you can put caviar in the buffet it doesn't make it a 5*. Would not go back and will not recommend it.

Overall very happy with our stay. The Esmeralda is one of 7 resorts on Bahia property but it felt like you were in a small resort with access to a lot more amenities than one resort would provide. The Esmeralda was recently renovated so facilities and cleanliness were excellent. had a king room and really like it. food was definitely above average with some of a la carte restaurants excellent (Mongolian, Italian ) Positives: Great beach, can walk for miles with lots of chairs Good pools Friendly staff Renovated throughout Negatives: Some of staff in positions that are in contact with you can’t speak English. A lot of times had to talk to 4 people to get an answer Beach restaurant not very good as variety and quality of food could be expanded I’ve been to Punta Cana many times and would definitely come back to the Esmeralda Another note , they do have a doctor on duty 24 hours a day. Had to use the medical clinic and service was great, referred us to a clinic in Bavaro (group Hospien) and saw specialist and had treatment and was back in room in a couple of hours
