Immediately no. Food is horrible, you will survive off dinner rolls your whole trip. No ac in the rooms, even after changing my room twice. Horrible wifi and little to no service in that area, be prepared to be present and live in the moment. The rooms smelled horrible and rotten and had black mold on the ceilings. Bathroom ceiling was leaking. And “mini fridge” that didnt even work was leaking the whole time and nobody fixed it, left a puddle in the middle of the floor that 4 towels had to sit on top of the whole time. A cleaning lady then stole my bag with my accessories that our butler Dionisio had to go dig through carts to find, he was the only plus about our trip. He was great. Pools also filthy always have hair, oil, food and limes/drink cups floating in it the whole time. Just dont waste your time or money. Couldnt wait to get home.

Very good place to go for vacation. The energy of the hotel was good overall it can improve with their personnel.

This is a beautiful resort and not too far from the Airport. This was our first trip to the DR and we felt it was very similar to Cuba 10 years ago. Our room had an amazing view of the ocean and pool area which we could enjoy on our veranda. The resort rooms and bathrooms are quite dated, bedding needs an upgrade and towels were just rough to dry yourself with. Buffet was good, lots to choose from and most of the staff friendly. The Special restaurants we enjoyed during our visit (Tokyo & Paris) were truly 9/10, great food, great service. We had to visit the medical due to sand flea bites, we were quite shocked to be charged $222.42 (cdn) or $8922.00 (Dominican Pesos) for a bottle of calamine lotion and hydrocortisone, cost in Canada $25.00 max. for both, I know resorts charge more, but 10x more was excessive. If you are looking for your Sunwing Rep, they can be found in the theatre daily, we didn't find this until day 3 after asking at the front desk and no one knew what we were talking about. "Stocked" bar fridge means something different in the DR (3x bottles of pop and 2x bottles of water), not always daily. Whether you want a party resort or just relax by the pool you will find both here. All in all it was a good trip.

I like the structure of the resort from outside. But the rooms and the bathrooms are a real disaster, very old and dirty . Mold smell and old construction overall . I wanted to use the hairdryer l almost got electricity shock and I have to change the room. But still same crap, on the room the table lamps there very old, the cords were covered ( wrapped) with tape. No alarm clock, no microwave. A very old iron . I got disgusted with everything. Very very old bath towels . That beautiful resort needs new construction and inspection from the health department. I feel bad for that beautiful place how they left behind with everything except outside. The gardens, pools and the beach was clean. Inside especially the hotel rooms huge disaster.

We were a family of 11 people ( 7 adults + 4 children) and we had a great week at the Occidental Caribe. Thank you to Alberto Jimenez, Gerente de Recepción, Occidental Caribe for making sure our 4 rooms would be close to each other. Rooms are quite nice, always clean and our bed was very comfortable. Bottle of water everyday, simply ask if you need more than one. Buffet, great variety at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Different themes at dinner during the week were very appreciated Special thank you to Teodoro Zorrilla for providing a great service to our family everyday. Snack bar & Pizzeria - greatly appreciated by everyone, good option for kids. Pools - difficult to get some shade, more umbrellas would needed as people reserve their chairs with towels starting at 6am. Water slides - More safety required by attending Lifeguard as teenagers are pushing smaller children. Beach - Cleaned every morning, we had seaweed only on the first day, rest of the week, ocean was warm and clean. In all, Occidental Caribe is great resort for family, the only small negative comment is the staff is mainly spanish speaking but they will try to speak english to help you.
