Wonderful all-inclusive family experience

dana9021 (Berkeley, Missouri) on Jun 06, 2026

This was the 2nd time me and my teenage daughter stayed at OC. There are so many choices when you shop for an all inclusive with all the reviews that you can go crazy trying to make the best choice. We stayed here in 2022 through an Expedia package and loved it. I couldn't recall anything negative. I booked direct this time and had the same experience. The rooms are very good, nothing glamorous or 5-star but we don't need that. They are all you really need and they all face the ocean. There are several restaurants to choose from and everything we ate was really good to great. The staff are so nice and friendly. Both pools were always clean and a great break from the beach. Pool 1 has the swim up bar and random entertainment throughout the day with a great energy/vibe. Pool 2 is more relaxed with no music. You often hear about people finding their place in the Caribbean and become repeat customers...I think OC is our place, I am already planning our next trip.

Not as bad as reviews say

Marco D (Homestead, Florida) on Jun 04, 2026

I was really expecting a bad experience but we actually have little to complain about. The Bad: - Rooms are definitely on the warmer side. The coldest temp the AC goes to was 78° F or 25.5°C. We ended up having to sleep with the fan on. - Restaurant that need reservations are not that great. You're better off with the Buffet by a mile. - Reservations to the restaurant are limited. But then again, the buffet was better anyway. - Walls in the rooms are thin. You can listen to every conversation your neighbors have - Bathrooms are a bit outdated - Loud music till 10 or sometimes 11PM - I hate that I have to wear a wristband to open the room. They should have an option to get a card instead of a wristband. The Good: - Dominicans will always treat you with excellent service. They try to accommodate you as best as possible. - The beds are comfortable and clean. The mini fridge is always refilled with sodas and water. You can even ask for them to put you a bottle of liquor or beer and they will. The hotel in itself has many different amenities to enjoy. They even have stores all around, game room for pingpong and billards (bar in the game room), big chess pieces in the pool area, and more pingpong tables in pool area as well. - The pool water does get hot with the sun beaming all morning but you have a bar in the pool which is nice, and music all day. There are 3 pools to enjoy I believe. - The gym is alright but usable. - I did ask about the water situation and they do use clean water from big blue jugs to refill. There are water tanks with ice everywhere you go. - Bars for drinks everywhere - Beach was amazing - Tours and activities were fun Overall, for the price is not as bad as I thought it would be. Solid 6.7/10

Enjoyed Our Stay

Rhonda B on Jun 01, 2026

My husband and I stayed for 10 days in May and I have to admit, we were a little nervous with all of the negative reviews we've seen in the groups, but it was everything we needed. The resort and the grounds are well maintained and beautiful. I do feel like there was more of a language barrier here than at all of the other resorts we've visited in Dominican, but it did not affect our stay. But the staff are friendly and doing their best to accommodate you all of the time. The beach is gorgeous, clean, with zero sargassum. The palm trees are perfect for shade, and there is a quieter area in front of the Mexican restaurant, where we spent our days. It's close to the washroom and bar, so it was perfect. We did not have any trouble with vendors on the beach, and security was always around. The food at the A La Carte's was all great and the staff friendly, we were able to book 7 nights in total, and had zero issue getting into the ones we chose. A couple of the indoor restaurants were very hot with little AC. The buffet was repetitive, but there was always something to eat, even for the pickiest of eaters. The lines for the egg and pasta station did get long during certain times, but we often found that people didn't know there was a station at both ends. Seating was an issue on the weekend, for breakfast especially. The staff were always working hard to clear tables and get you what you needed. Our room was Oceanview in building 3, 3rd floor. Room was clean, bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were very soft. The AC was not working well when we arrived, we called the front desk to have it looked at, they said they fixed it, but we didn't notice much difference throughout our stay. There is a fan above the bed that definitely helped moved what air there was, and it was comfortable enough for sleeping. Our mini fridge was stocked daily with pop, a ton of water and beer. My husband did end up with strep throat our third day there, something that he is prone to and knew the symptoms of. We visited the Doctor on site first thing in the morning, and he had the same antibiotic he gets from our family Doctor available that day. We really enjoyed our stay at Occidental Caribe and hope you do too :)

Very rude treatment

Angelika C on May 28, 2026

We are at the hotel now, my parents got their room at ground level which stinks of mould whereas I have it on second level with a seaview. This morning we asked at the reception and a lovely lady named Alison Bernard said that when we come back at 3pm we will get a room higher up with a seaview. We came at 3pm and after waiting for an hour Alison is avoiding us (we mentioned her to someone else so they called her in but as she came she clearly had an attitude and didn't even say hi, I think she said in Spanish that she never promised anything and left without a word in our direction) and then we got a room at the back of the hotel. When we came back to the reception and asked for a seaview another lady told us that a seaview is an additional charge. When I told her that I didn't have to pay for it she said she will check it, she spoke to someone and came back to tell us it will be another $650. When I asked her why we have to pay for this she said that if we don't pay seaview rooms are not available. There are plenty of nice things I can say about this hotel and it's staff already but unfortunately this situation will definitely be a highlight and we are very disappointed with the attitude of some people...
