A Great 2 Weeks

My wife & I stayed at Occidental Caribe from Dec 1st-17th (15 nights). As others mention, the hotel grounds, pools & beach are just awesome! Plenty of lounge chairs & shaded areas available. The hotel itself is somewhat dated, but we had no issues with our room. It was cleaned nicely as needed. The hotel did experience water problems but we did not let that ruin our vacation. We enjoyed the varied food at the buffets & specialty restaurants - btw, I am a very picky eater and never had a problem finding something I liked. We received great service from everyone we encountered during our stay, but would like to acknowledge the following staff who took excellent care of us: Nilson, Janin & Clarisa in the main buffet. Jenny & Orby (omelette’s) in the breakfast buffet. Yohanny, in the pizzeria. Santiango & Angel in the beach buffet area. And ESPECIALLY - Yossi, Ana, Christine, Sandy & Omar in the main lobby bar…. Thank You ALL! We will be returning with our family in March ‘26 (23 persons)! Joy & Mike (room 2111)

I have been going to this resort for many years. We were there the first week of December with another couple. Did we lose water for a little while? Yes. Was it a make or break issue. No it was not. I have read so many bad reviews about the staff. I have never been mistreated by the staff. They have never been rude or condescending to me. In fact, they will go out of their way to assist you especially Roxanne.
Don’t vacation at this resort

For 3 days of our 9 day stay we were without running cold water and without running toilets. Staff seemed to think it wasn’t a big deal and just shrugged it off. The last 4 days were spent without running hot water. Now think about the fork you use for lunch or dinner and think about it not being washed with hot water. Gross.. Also if you don’t speak or know Spanish this resort isn’t for you. The staff speaks little to no English. All said the upper management did nothing to compensate us for our troubles as a matter of fact in some instances they even laughed at us

Staff were very rude not helpful or welcoming. The restrooms wouldn’t flush for a long period of time it took him three hours to bring up toilet paper to our room and we also had no running water for about six hours. Staff were extremely rude and not welcoming.

The hotel it's is not a bad hotel chain, it's the lack of communication and proper resolution to issues that's the problem at this hotel. The hotel had the cold water shut off for 30 hours due to a water main break outside the hotel in the main road, starting Wednesday December 10th around 5pm. That being said we went out on an excursion at 7am on Thursday December 11th, leaving the clean and tidy sign on our room door. We came back to our hotel room 9 hours later to find the room wasn't cleaned and the toilet was still full and was never cleaned out. The faucet in the room was loose and movable, the towel rack fell off the wall, the toilet paper holder was super loose on the wall and almost falling off. There was a missing shower knob for the diverter valve.
