Lovely hotel and wonderful staff. Shout out to Brandon, our "local host." He could not have been more attentive and helpful. He helped with everything we needed from day trips to mixology to chairs by the pools. A word of caution. Do not go in seaweed season. How bad can it be? You won't be able to even get in the water.
Beautiful Rooms and Resort - Amazing Food!

We really enjoyed our trip to Unico. It was at very low occupancy and felt so relaxing. However, I do think that if we went during a busy time where it was more than 60% occupancy it would feel way too crowded since there's really only one main area to spend your days. We loved the rooms and being able to communicate electronically with our host, room service, and housekeeping. We spent every day sitting by the quiet pool - we like to just relax on our vacations - which was truly very quiet. We loved all of the restaurants, but Mi Carisa was the star. This was also the first resort I've been to that I felt like understood my food allergies better than I did! There was a few things I'd order and the waiter would immediately tell me I couldn't have it because of an unlisted ingredient. Super impressed, and we would definitely go back...but probably only during low season! :)

I visited Unico to help celebrate my nieces belated bday..
everything was goin ok until check out …
We were approached by Juan Pablo to buy a vacation Package! Boy, what a scam they’re running there !! They wait until you’re rushing to check out and quickly talk to to you about giving them 389.00 for some fabulous package ! They fail to tell you the details ! It’s a huge rip off !! Anyone out there reading this , don’t do it !! The taxes and fees are outrageous and you cannot cancel !!
Trust me when I tell you , these folks are running a racket at that resort and are quite dishonest!
I’ll never visit Mexico again!! Can’t trust anyone !!
20 87... Name, or the tally of sushi rolls I ate?

It's taken me a week since my return to this Hell I live in to encapsulate the trip my group and I had into sensible and appropriate words. I thought that when I left America, Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, it was a passable place to live, but I was wrong. Why have we as a nation and as a mixing pot of people, wasted our lives building a nation where we cannot simply live like we do at Unico 20 87? I can now see we have made strides in all the wrong areas...
Hungry? Simply waltz into a restaurant with all your friends, and instead of ordering, simply point to the one or two things you don't want, and say, "Not these." Truly a great feeling. Nearly everything we tried was amazing, from grasshoppers to octopus toast, to Mr. Manuel Morales and His Hairless Pig, if you'll excuse me putting them all in the same breadth. The Superbia event was incredible. I've climbed to the summit of Everest, twice now, but those experiences, if I can even still call them that after Unico, paled in comparison to climbing the proverbial mountain that began in the kitchen of Chef Bruno Oteiza, and culminated in my belly. Sure, we started off at the base camp with the smoked jicama, but by the time the Birria Rib Eye came out, we were all of us nearly at the end of a life changing journey.
The service was better though. While I am admittedly a little peeved that I've had to adapt and steal Unico staff's "My pleasure" reply when you have need of their services, I can confirm that with the Mrs., it really works. Many of our non-adventure vacations center around all-inclusives and the service of those properties, and the Unico staff, especially our host, were simply amazing. We actually chose Unico due to what we'd seen and read about the staff, and they didn't disappoint.
There were a lot of pre-trip concerns members of our group had that you tend to forget about in retrospect. Things like safety, property condition, overall vibe of the other guests, personal space at the pool, beach conditions, quality and quantity of food and drinks. I think after we stepped into the property, and tried the amenities, met other people, we knew we had chosen a great place. We even had two days of clear beaches on site, meanwhile a few miles away in Tulum, the beaches were a disaster. They worked nonstop to clear them and get them in great condition.
A bit of personal advice, it's a great place to have a honeymoon, or as we saw, actually get married. The property is beautiful, and the staff can transform the iguana gladiator platforms into amazing venues in a couple of hours' time. But for us, it was best with friends. You'll still have plenty of time for balcony bathtub bumping, but sharing dinner and the experience with friends, both with our party, and those we had met, turned it all into an amazing experience. My one regret is that I was never able to see Anubis, the trained murder-falcon, turned loose on the Mocking Birds that obviously haunt his dreams. I think a late evening exhibition, when the guests have imbibed heavily would have been great. Show those Mocking Birds where they are at in the literal pecking order.
Mostly Excellent, Some Not So Good Things

This was our fourth visit to UNICO. We had a two-week stay. It didn't take long to appreciate breakfast at La Carisa (Italian) and we started most days there. In large part this was due to the morning manager Jocelyn. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was done to the highest standards. We also enjoyed more dinners there than the other restaurant choices and this was due to the evening manager and the very good meals. The sommelier we liked the most was Nicholas, very good info and suggestions.
Other people of note include Jose (poolside bar staff) and Aracely and Pava (massages).
Overall, it was another fine stay at UNICO. But there were some negatives, too. Toward the end of our stay my wife and I both had food poisoning that we traced back to the only common food we had the evening before our symptoms appeared that was a sushi tuna roll. And what is designated as the quiet pool was not as peaceful as on previous visits. We were somewhat disappointed that the pizza baked in the outdoor pizza oven was not consistently excellent as it had been in past visits.
Final thoughts, it would be good if the Mexican restaurant served some traditional dishes in addition to the modern/fusion dinner items. And it will be nice when UNICO is able to get back to some buffet meals.
