Bed bugs
Ancy J on Sep 23, 2023
Came home with clusters of bed bug bites on neck, chin, and back. Emailed hotel staff and they are investigating it. Please check your room if you’re staying here. Frustrated bc while staying, my main issue was not having hot water (staff was attentive and fixed this other issue). Did not think to check for bed bug since this is a reputable hotel.
Look elsewhere.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Checked in after travel and traffic to get to a dirty room. Bashed up with hair on floor, to get another room even more bashed up and a tub that doesn’t switch off. Just constant drip. Third room is better but online pictures do not capture how run down this place is.
Very different rooms

Good hotel in a great location in Union Square. We booked two rooms. One in the newer tower and a junior suite in the older building. The older building was much much nicer whilst the newer one was quite dark and a little musty. Otherwise all was good although one minor niggle in that the sofa bed in the suite wasn’t made up even though we had three adults in the booking. Small detail but after a long flight and a late arrival it would have been nice if they had it ready.

This elegant and charming hotel is in the heart of Union Square, directly across the square. Perfectly located near the best upscale shopping, and public transportation including, cable cars, buses, BART, and easily located by taxis, UBER and Lyft drivers. You are never more than 15-25 minutes away from any part of the city from the St. Francis. There are great local eateries and pubs close by, including upscale dining, and the St. Francis offers quick eats, coffee, dining, room service, fine dining & drinking options starting from 6am-11pm. Our package included a daily breakfast buffet, which exceeded our expectations. The food was fresh, was abundant, well prepared and delicious and the dining staff was exceptionally attentive to all our needs. The staff at the St. Francis was overall professional, courteous, kind and tremendous. From the check-in reception to the front doormen and everyone in between (luggage assistance, housekeeping, cafe, dining, hosts, maintenance, valet, reservations), every staff member ensured our every need was adhered to. We especially recognize our concierge, Jeff Aquino, who went out of his way to ensure we had a wonderful experience and we were well prepared and informed as we headed out on our daily activities and excursions. Our room was clean, spacious, lovely and we had a beautiful view of East San Francisco, as our room was located on the 19th floor of the tower building and we had the pleasure of seeing the sunrise every morning and watching the lovely city lights at night. We also had sliver of the East bay and could see ships and cargo ships make their way through the bay. The housekeeping staff ensured our room was cleaned daily, we had fresh towels and linens and if we needed anything, they responded immediately. We love this city and witnessed first hand that even though it has its challenges, (like all cities in the U.S. after the pandemic have experienced), the soul and heart of the city is still alive and thriving. San Franciscans are hardworking and take pride in this incredibly diverse and historical city and as a tourist, I honor and see the efforts being made by very single individual trying to live and making a living but also striving to keep San Francisco what it is and has always been, a city that has overcome great obstacles. This is a historical landmark hotel and the beauty is not only reflected in its architectural interior and exterior but in the staff that makes this hotel what it is today. We will without a doubt continue to stay at the Westin St. Francis upon our next visit to San Francisco and look forward to our next stay.

I din not expect 5 star…I did not expect 3 star…I think It was about 2.5 star…about a 20 minute line for Marriott elites to check in…our upscale room had only one chair, not as depicted…room service only operates at special times,no turndown service,no real restaurant except at certain times and the lobby restaurant has a prepackaged food shelf or some variation of Italian noodles…there was no stand alone shower and no way to check out on the tv/internet…the concierge misinformed me about availability of cabs at 3 am,for the airport and the front door was locked/ barricaded when we left through the parking lot….but the tv worked fine and the bed was comfortable…sorry.
