Great historic hotel

gnahzmap (Los Angeles, California) on Jan 22, 2023

I stayed here for 3 nights while in SF for work and was very impressed. The hotel is very large and somewhat confusing, but the rooms have been updated and are quite comfortable, while still retaining the historic charm (for example, having a chandelier above the bed, and retaining what appeared to be original moulding on the walls). My room was cleaned daily and I ordered room service which arrived quickly and was not bad (though very pricey). There are a few onsite restaurants, and the lobby cafe (Rito) was quite good. Union Square is a central location, and any complaints about that really are just complaints about SF as a whole. I highly recommend the Westin St. Francis if you need to be in downtown SF for any reason.

Luxurious feel in the Heart of Union Square - Amazing Staff!

My friends and I really enjoy this hotel. From the moment you step in the door, it feels like a luxurious hotel with a deep history. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and great at their job. The view from the room is amazing, I would suggest trying to get a Union Square view. I will 100% stay here again in the future!!

Nice stay, bonkers billing fiasco

familytravelsall4 (Kailua, Hawaii) on Jan 12, 2023

We had a relatively good stay. It is a huge hotel in a great location. It’s very big and seemingly understaffed, as many places are these days. That being said, our issues really began upon checkout. We received a folio that only had food charges. We assumed we’d get the full folio on the app after 48 hours or so. A day later we received a charge on our credit card for more than twice the expected cost of the stay. (Thousands of dollars…) I reached out to the hotel and was told to be patient while they figured out the problem. 48 hours later I called Marriott and was told the manager would reach out to me in 24 hours. Nothing. I called the hotel directly and accounting told me they were aware of the problem and were working on. I asked to speak to the manager. I was sent to the front desk where someone told me they were a manager and I just needed to be patient while they fixed the “glitch.” Several calls later, we finally received a corrected charge for our credit card but wait for this - the hotel says it cannot send me a receipt or updated folio bc of privacy concerns. What? So you can overcharge me, make me wait, finally update my charge and I’m not allowed to see what changed or how much the new charge is except the credit card bill?! That’s bonkers and not how I do business. We checked out 16 days ago and that’s where things stand. Yikes. As lifetime platinum members we expect more from Marriott but things like service and basic things like billing are falling through the cracks.

"Elegant Accommodations"

251hildes (Walnut, California) on Jan 05, 2023

Elegantly appointed room with beautiful view of the park at Union Square with all of its activity - people strolling about, artists displaying their creations, music. Loved it. I always stay here when I travel to San Francisco and have never been disappointed.

Christmas at the St. Francis

Kittygal (Los Angeles, California) on Dec 12, 2022

On childhood trips here, I always recalled the tale of how the St. Francis provided fresh washed quarters to guests that needed change. It dated back to the not so distant past, when ladies wore gloves in public. I also saw signs on the cable cars that told riders, "I stop at the store. Francis!" In my early 80's grad school days, the hotel was a spot for a special occasion, and still remember having a perfect afternoon with a visiting relative. On my recent visit, I stopped in to see what holiday wonders might be on offer. The hotel did not disappoint! Everything was done up beautifully and it was a delight to wander through the winter festive atmosphere. Had I not been due at a play on moments, I would have stayed to enjoy a beverage. Next time. It's been years since I stayed here, so I can't comment on rooms or hotel staff. But the establishment is still a wonderful part of the city's history ( there are several great displays in the reception are that talk of past times) and does its best to keep the spirit of San Francisco alive.
