Lovely beach, and grounds. Most else deprived

Coming to Cuba no one should expect much. It’s not luxury by any means, but the beaches and weather are wonderful as are the Cuban people. This place is possibly 2.5 star. I don’t know where to start. Some rooms are completely torn down, no proper shower, water splashing everywhere or just not running at all. There are no loungers by the humungous pool, sooo much empty space. Can someone please sponsor and send them some loungers? You’re walking and just want to sit to relax, good luck. It wasn’t busy at all and people were sitting on grass. The territory is pretty big, and kind of confusing, everything looks the same and you can get lost easily. There are also minimal lights at night! Everyone walks with their cell flashlight, some pathways are pitch black. Many employees are so sweet and helpful. The food is alright, nothing amazing but it’s okay, there’s always something. The beach is the best part, you can walk in both directions and it’s spacious. As long as you’re prepared for lack of electricity, chairs, possibly a malfunctioning bathroom, you’re all set.
Heartbreaking experience.

Well.... I've been traveling Cuba for 20 years. I usually stay at a 3 star (Starfish Varadero) which has been outstanding, among other places in Cuba. Booking this 4.5 I thought I was in for a treat. I had come solo as I recently had to deal with some tragedy and wanted to reconnect with myself. The free wifi disconnects every 5 mins despite the staff continuously saying it works for 10 hours then you have to log in. Get ready for 1000 trips to the desk to do so. It advertised booze in your fridge despite telling the desk for 10 straight days there was still nothing in my room. Both phones in my room didn't work and multiple lamps. No one came to fix them. The batteries on the door for room keys often fail and you need to go to the desk and wait for maintenance to help you in your room. This was ongoing with many travelers. Pool was dirty. Hot tub broken. Less food options then the 3 stars I've stayed at. Entertainment in theater did not happen every night. I had staff hitting on me and asking for my stuff despite handing out clothes, shoes and 400$ in tips. I've never seen the Cubans so desperate. I feel for them. They had no pop or ingredients to make basic drinks like mojitos for 10 days straight. I called other resorts and they did not have the same problem. Upon leaving Monday the 30th my flight wasn't till 930pm. I checked out and put my suitcase in a room the assured me was safe until my airport shuttle. Upon arriving at the airport and opening my suitcase to put warm clothes on to arrive in Canada I found my suitcase had been gone through and my jewelry including a set I just inherited from my passing grandma had been stolen. Approx 1500$ in jewelry. I called the hotel they said they would do an investigation and to call back. I've called back everyday to get put on hold for 20 minutes then hung up on without speaking to anyone. Don't waste your $ here. There are way better resorts for cheaper prices, with more staff to accommodate you. Varadero beach is stunning end to end but here you are on the only part of the beach you have to navigate large rocks to get in the water. Not safe for people that are unstable. I will not recommend this hotel. Very uncomfortable experience.
