Another great vacation at Occidental caribe

We had a great time at the Occidental Caribe. The Animation staff were fantastic. Kelvin, Yeimy and their crew are super energetic and got us motivated to do all the activities. Our room had a great view of the pool and the buffet and assorted restaurants have a very nice selection of foods. Hola from Canada Bernie

Give me a read before booking

I will break down my review into the sections independently and then again as a whole. Location: The location is great! Not to far from the airport (35-45 mins depending if shared). Beach: The beach is beautiful, white sand, clean and well maintained. The people selling excursions and services on the beach are incredibly pushy and very rude if you refuse them. We put a deposit on an excursion and largely due to the language barrier, we were not told the proper location for pickup (outside the resort main gates, with no transportation to the gates so its a long, roughly 6km walk) and ended up loosing our money and missing out on the excursion. Food: Incredibly disappointed in the food. Unless you stood in the line ups at the buffet to have something custom made, the buffet was nasty. It was like eating no name brands of processed, pre-frozen food. The only places I actually enjoyed food was the pasta station, omlette station, pizzeria and the French à la carte. Food is important to me and this was incredibly frustrating, especially with my 5 year old. When going to the custom stations at the buffet, the lineups are longa and the servicing staff was rude. The pizzeria took an average of an hour to bring one drink and our individual pizza's to us. Pools and entertainment: The pools were nice but could end up super crowed. It was hard to get chairs unless you were awake at the crack of dawn. Unless you stuck your t*ts out at the swim up bar or spoke Spanish, you were completely ignored. The kids water park pool was great and my daughter loved it. No adults allowed, as per most resorts. Room: The room was terrible. We were a group of 16 people and every single one of our rooms had issues. All the rooms had toilets that did not flush. We had personally contacted the maintenance person over 6 times to attempt to fix this problem, which never did end up being fixed. The roof in the bathroom leaked a steady drip of water, the shower never drained and was not cleaned once. The balcony door didn't close properly and our entire room kept loosing power in the middle of the nights, which resulted in no A/C. Under the beds I don't think have ever been cleaned, only noticed after my shoe slid under accidently. Our room key cards deactivated multiple times a day and we always ended up having to walk to 2kms to the front desk, wait in usually super long lines and be treated horribly to get replacement cards. We always kept the room card away from bank/credit cards and our cell phones so that was not the issue. Bars: The drinks were poured very strong 80% of the time which made them taste like straight hard alcohol and many of them get dumped. Waiting in a lineup again for incredibly slow service. If asking for a specific cocktail on their menu caused the staff to have to work to make it, you were treated as an inconvenience, eye rolls and even slower service. We had been passed over as English speakers so many times to help the people behind us in line that it felt like we shouldn't have even been there in the first place. I am not a mean person and I felt like I had to defend myself every single time I talked to any of the staff, as they blamed every thing we couldn't control (ei. Room keys, cocktails, toilet, etc.) On us. Excursions: The excursions were the best experience of all. Getting off the resort and being around staff who treated you like family and made you feel incredibly welcome was amazing. Booking through the resort means they will pick up right outside the lobby. If you book anywhere else (viator, punta cana adventures, etc) the pickup location is the resort gates and a long hot walk away. Overall: Everyone seems to work on their own time and the overall service and friendliness was terrible. The food was nasty (minus the few things). The beach was amazing, one of the nicest beaches I have been to and the pools were decent. There are many better resorts for this price point, I would steer everyone away from this one

Beautiful beach, hard-working staff

Very hard working staff go above and beyond - from the people working on the property grounds to the people cleaning the hotel and rooms to all of the serving staff and the administrative staff, thank you! The beach and large frontage at this property is truly special! Because of the hotel age, I would rate it a 3.5, if you are looking for a 5 star then book elsewhere and pay more money. If you are looking for a comfortable vacation with nice pools and beach this is a great hotel. I cannot say enough thank you's to Jenniffer Castillo as well as Yulianna and Dania for taking such great care of me and my family. Thank you!!! Constructive feedback for the hotel would be to have more staff at reception to tackle long check-in lines and long waits, since this is the first impression that you give your guests, please consider this closely. The waiting to check-in does seem to cause frustrations for many, and I do think that with a few more staff available, this issue could be resolved. The same for booking the A la Cartes, more than one person/ desk area would allow guests to book and go enjoy their day instead of waiting in line to book these in the mornings. Lastly, stools should be brought to the bar areas, like your sister resort Occidental Punta Cana, people enjoy sitting around the bar, instead of having guest line up at the bar for a drink. The resort is big and people will move around to different areas, but since many activities are held in the lobby in the evenings, more stools at the bar and more comfortable chairs should be added to lobby bar 2 where people gather in the evenings. Service and cleanliness very bad ??

Where to start when I got to my hotel I asked for a family room which they charged me an extra 500 US. When I got to my room everything in that room was outdated there was rust on the mirrors I saw cocrouges everywhere in my room the smell coming from the AC was very bad as if something was rotten inside that AC. Everytime we went to eat we had to wait almost 20 minutes to 40 minutes to just to get approached by the waiter see if wanted water or something, and then they would say they will bring water and disapear again. I had to actually help myself evertime to go get water or any kind of beverages. I have not even seen one waiter to smile. as if they were forced to work there. I'm very disappointed of the service I got here. Trust me even they offer you best discounted price do not go here you will regret your vacation.

Great Experience!!

I seen a lot of bad reviews on this hotel but I like to form my own opinions. We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. Resort is big but manageable. Rooms were dated but very clean. Floors were swept and washed daily. We were never short of anything. Hotel grounds were very well maintained and clean. Beach was gorgeous, no umbrellas but not needed because of the clusters of palm trees for all day shade. Staff was helpful and very friendly. Treat people how you want to be treated. We had an issue with our air conditioner and they came up right away to fix it. For the size of this hotel, I would say it needs more staff but they did a great job!! We were lucky enough to try all the a la carte restaurants and the food was great!! Buffet for breakfast was amazing, never short of food and trays were always full. Snack bar by the pool is where we had most of our lunches and it was perfect for what we wanted. We went to all the shows and enjoyed all of them. Always something going on near the pool, beach or lobby in the evening. Entertainment team was so full of energy!! I am glad I took the chance and went to this resort. The pricing is on the lower end but exceeded my expectations based on reviews I had seen. It's a big resort with a family feel to it.
