Staying at secrets for our honeymoon was absolute bliss. The staff was there for our every need and went above and beyond. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The food was AMAZING, especially for an all inclusive. Make sure to try the ceviche and quesadillas at the pool side grill! Thank you secrets for making our honeymoon everything we imagined.

Secrets papagayo Costa Rica review… Pros… Beautiful lush grounds Cool bungalow vibe Black sand beaches Frank the tank tours (Orlando with the jet ski tour was awesome!) The Secrets staff was amazing! (See picture of our two favorites Ingrid and Erick) if this is Secrets staff reading this…give Ingrid and Erick (market cafe and aqua staff) a raise! :) Rooms were nice Hilly and lots of walking but that’s a pro for us. I know it might be a con for others. Cons… Food was very average (and I brag to people about Secrets food). Really no meal or restaurant that wow’d us. Also no Bordeaux French restaurant here. The transport vans drove way too fast and didn’t yield to those of us walking. No umbrellas or palapas on the beach. Very few chairs. All in all a great week! Pura vida!

Stayed as a couple mid April for 8 nights. Good - lovely location with a pretty secluded beach. No other hotels nearby. Black volcanic sand on beach as expected but easy access to a warm sea. Variety of attractive and colourful fish, including starfish, puffer fish and octopus.Water a bit murky at times. Food generally good and enough variety and choice of restaurants. The pool by the spa was great - much easier to get a sunbed and excellent lunches at the Aqua restaurant with a lovely view - a special mention for Ingrid who was always so happy and welcoming as well as efficient! Generally the staff at the hotel were helpful and pleasant - Nazareth from the Activities Desk was great and took us out kayaking and for the morning escorted walk. Not so good - we knew in advance that the main pool area would not be our scene but booked the hotel on the basis that it had a quiet spa pool and the adjacent Aqua Restaurant. We were therefore very unhappy to find that for 5 out of our 8 nights the Aqua was not available as it was being used for either weddings or corporate functions. The whole area was effectively not available from after around 4pm on these days and for a couple of hours prior there was a lot of setting up which was not very relaxing. We made a formal complaint to the hotel management as we felt we were not getting what we had paid for and as advertised. The complaint was dealt with sympathetically and we were offered a special meal. We were however left with the impression that corporate and private bookings were more important to the hotel than the holiday customers. This is a matter that higher Hyatt management need to address. The restaurants and bars around the main pool area are busy but what’s lacking is somewhere to go after dinner to sit outside and have a quiet coffee and drink - preferably not out of plastic cups! There is a small bar outside the Market cafe but no seats at all which is crazy Restrooms/ Toilets - a bit rundown and no toilet paper on several occasions. The entertainment is really hit and miss. The saxophone evenings and Latin dance lessons were good however. Housekeeper is a little erratic. We were given limited information on arrival and no explanation about the green and red light system - there is no proper information in the room. The room was not made up on one day and there was confusion about the turn down service. We weren’t told about the App until a member of staff told us about it on day 2. The room tablet was not much help.

Excellent place and enjoy a relaxing time. The views are beautiful, the beaches are amazing. The locals are very friendly. We enjoy our stay. Next visit we will stay longer.

Just returned from a great 11-nights trip to Secrets Papagayo celebrating our 43rd anniversary. This is our 2nd trip here, last was 2019 and the customer service did not disappoint. We booked a Preferred Club ocean view Bungalow for the stay, and although an upgrade was not available at checkin we were upgraded as soon as possible by our UVC Rep, Elieth, to a large PC ocean view swim-out for the remainder of our stay. We went on two excursions to the Rainforests, volcanoes, hot springs, etc and although they were long days, definitely worth while. Our stay was far and above due to the customer service provided by: UVC Representative - Elieth, she always made sure we were very satisfied Preferred checkin - Esteban, wonderful service, great smile Preferred Bar - Donald, great service Entertainment Team - Nazareth, Merari, great smiles full of fun Pool Swim-up Bar - Henry, Eduardo, they always made our drinks special Night Bar - William great way to end the day Portofino Restaurant Server - Ricardo, great smile! Fantastic service Seaside Grill servers - Yesner, great service Massage- Marcela, Dino, great massages. Both made sure the service was perfect for me!
