The service at Hilton Playa del Carmen is UNBEATABLE! Staff were helpful, kind and welcoming. With a suite right on the beach (& a private pool!!) we celebrated our honeymoon in absolute paradise. Room service, bar service, on-site restaurants had our plates and glasses full for the entire ten day trip!

STOP! Pay attention to the reviews concerning the construction, it's insane

I think a lot of the positive reviews are based on the service these people received from the attendants working there. The service was great and the people that work there are making the best of a terrible situation. At least 3/4s of the property is under construction. Multiple restaurants are closed. The spa is closed. The lobby is completely closed. There is a smell of sewage in certain areas. To cover it up they have placed the 'aroma' machines that are like large diffusers that expel a mist of cinnamon, which kind of mixes with the sewage smell. It's unpleasant. The noise during the day is insane, so they have cranked up music in an attempt to drown out the jack hammering. Getting from one place to another is also ridiculous, since they have so many areas under construction at the same time, they have large areas completely blocked off. So to get to the gym, you have to either walk through a restaurant or walk all the way to the beech, the toward the pier and back towards where the lobby used to be. We booked this trip at the first of the year, before the construction and we were never made aware that this was going on. In fact, this trip was more expensive than the prior times we'd been there and only a fraction of the property was open. This is the 4th time we've been there as we have a couples trip every 2 years or so with the same group and this place has kind of been the tradition. We will not be back. They did offer to move us to a resort in Cancun , but with 5 couples arriving at different times and different days, we just stuck it out, since the logistics would have been an additional pain. Besides, we didn't want to go to Cancun, otherwise we would have booked there to begin with. So if you have the option, do yourself a favor and really give some thought to staying elsewhere, this place is truly a disaster.

We were not told that the whole facility was under construction, so much for relaxing at an all inclusive, our friends also were in a completely separate building than us which was hard to believe considering there was hardly anyone staying there. Also our room was by the “quiet” pool which we had a view of from our balcony which was nice with the exception of the back patio which faced the street and a rock band played from midnight until 4:30am in the morning, earplugs did NOT help!! I do not know how they will get anyone wanting to stay in those rooms! I for one and my four other friends will NEVER stay there again!! Horrible all inclusive experience!!

Poor communication skip until construction is over

This was our second trip and we enjoyed our first under the name Royal that we convinced friends to go with us. Terrible communication from the hotel and the booking agency. We paid 500 for an upgrade that wasn’t available due to the construction. The best they could do was offer a “special dinner” and a massage. We explained we were with friends and wanted to be able to eat with them and they finally agreed to dinner for 4 but no massage. Dinner for 4 would have been free at any of the restaurants at the resort and is a poor compensation for unavailable rooms that were prepaid. The amenities have changed. You now have to pay to rent a cabana around the pool . Never paid for them before. The buffet was not open for all meals like it was last year. The beer list has changed. They dropped several favorites. Just a big NO.
